I made an appointment for my minor son in January. We live 1hour 45 minutes one way to get there(3 1/2 hours round trip). The receptionist was very friendly and personal. She said they strongly encouraged both parents to be present. I explained my son lived solely with me, but both of us had a good relationship with his father. However, I could not make his father go to the appointment. I ended up rescheduling because of emergency travel due to a family suicide. When I explained this, the receptionist never mentioned my sons father or needing him present for the new appointment. She was cold and not sweet like before. I looked up reviews online, which were not good. I spoke to family who took their son there and an adult friend who went there. Neither good. The adult never saw Dr. Soper, just an assistant. My nephew was barely spoken to when he went. Despite this, I kept the new appointment because Dr. Soper is the only person in the county who takes our insurance. We arrived for his appointment and the receptionist said the dr would NOT see my son because his father was not there. I never got a confirmation call. I called this morning and never received a return phone call even though they were open an hour before I got there. She says she tells everyone both parents must be there. I know she she did not say that as I live so far away I would have ensured it. She did go speak with Dr so per telling him we drove from far away. He refused to see us, even though my son lives solely with me and we drove so far. I was livid. I went through all 8 pages of paperwork they sent me that I brought with us and NO where did it say both parents Must be present. I told her she never said that, only that they encouraged it. I lost a whole day of work. If it was mandatory it would be on the paperwork. Avoid!!!!

Dont go here! The staff is terrible. Therapist was great but the front staff and the billing department are rude and dont know what they are doing. I got a bill that didnt add up so I had to call and Natasha was rude and told me that the bill wouldnt have everything on it. What?!? How am I supposed to make sure it was correct? And by the way it was not correct. She tried to fix it and then ended up adding wrong again over the phone! Not to mention they try to scam you into paying even after insurance already paid. And Shirley the front desk person doesnt write down after you call and cancel an appt. so they end up calling it a no show and then when I tell them I have proof I called 24 hours before she didnt believe me and wouldnt look at my phone records. Do not go here. Go somewhere else!!

I am currently in the process of finding a psychiatrist in Humboldt County after recently deciding to get back on medication. I am genuinely disheartened to see that this "doctor" is still practicing in the area. I have not visited Dr. Soper since 2010 when he was my psychiatrist for approximately six months. Reading reviews on google and yelp bring back a lot of bad memories! Battling for his attention because he had a laptop in his lap during visits, comparing me to other patients and feeling very uncomfortable about it, the fraudulent office. This was seven years ago mind you! It doesnt seem like much has changed honestly. Just wanted to back up what others say they have gone through much more recently unfortunately...

Operator(receptionist?) could not even schedule an appointment. I got a call back and was told appointments were 1-2 weeks out, and she wouldnt schedule one without me having my insurance card in my hand while we were on the phone. I explained I was waiting for a new copy and I would have it by my appointment date (in 1-2 weeks...) and SHE WOULD NOT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITHOUT ME HAVING MY CARD IN MY HAND AT THAT MOMENT. I knew my id and everything, didnt matter. Incredibly rude. Obviously uncaring about patients. Apparently par for the course.

After having several appointments with Dr. Soper for a family member we found Dr. Soper to be competent but his staff are THE most horrible people to deal with. They "Fired" us after only a few visits because we had some billing questions. The conversation became sort of heated as will happen with some psychiatric patients. They could not handle a simple confrontation without having to bring it to another level and making things 1000 times worse. The worst customer service skills I have ever encountered. If I could give -5 stars I would.

I took a family member to this provider. The office staff were extremely rude, the physical environment was non-confidential, and the communication was extremely poor. The office environment was very unprofessional and unwelcoming in the extreme. We were kept waiting without explanation. I decided never to return to this office for my family member or to refer anyone there in the future. Dr. Soper himself was friendly and seemed caring, but his presentation and the office itself made it impossible to receive good care there.

They billed me and my father paid them and then they sent a collection agency onto the case to give me bad credit anyway. Thanks for the scare. Also, every appointment I went in to see him Soper had a book titled "Why youre stupid" or something like that (I dont remember exactly but trying to talk to him about my mental health while looking at the book title made me uncomfortable, and it seemed like it should be obvious to him to remove that book for his patients sake even if he likes reading it.)

Cannot keep track of patients. Thought a story from a book I mentioned in a previous visit was something that I said happened to myself in real life; compared me to another patient in an inappropriate and judgmental manner. Dropped me after pulling me through a loop because I wasnt informed they moved locations and missed an appointment. Illegally refused to release medical records. Had been trying to transfer anyway.

Dr. Soper is one of the most vile, disgusting, and evil cretins to ever walk the face of the earth. He treats his patients like filth. Please, please, please find a different psychiatrist.
