This hospital does not tell you it is their policy to give you a C-Sec if you have had a V Back in the past. Thankfully I found a good doctor and signed a release to have another V Back with my doctor of choice. I was in labor for 10 hours. I started feeling contractions at 10 p.m.. Went to the hospital at 12. Thought I was having false labor. At 1 the ultrasound tech told the nurses the baby was completely effaced ( the baby was in the birth canal ready to come out!) The nurses didnt tell the doctor this and so he didnt arrive until 4 a.m. The doctor also had to wait for an hour to take my circlage out because the hospital didnt have the clean tools on hand. When the doctor was taking the circlage out he was very surprised when I asked him to be careful because the baby was right above the circlage. No one told him the baby was completely effaced! I have to say more than half of the staff is incompetent and cold. Thankfully the doctor knew what he was doing and there are some nursing staff that actually care. I should have had the baby at 1 a.m. The baby and I were forced to bear contraction until 8 a.m.. I also should have been given an epidural. I requested one and ended up having a natural birth. If the nurse that was assigned to me was just honest and on the ball with the doctor my delivery experience probably would have been 5 stars but it was terrible and unnecessarily painful. There is a male nurse that works in the N.I.C.U. that acts very hostile. He checks on women while they are trying to breast feed, very uncomfortable! If you do have a baby here make sure to bring your phone with you so you can call the doctor your self and tell him what is going on!

Ive never been to this hospital, but judging by the reviews some of these people have written I would give the hospital 5 stars just for putting up with them. The woman who wrote the long tirade (Kelly) which all seemed to be one sentence, included such eloquent proclamations as: that was wrong in the wrong I dont do drugs no more that is poison... is clearly insane. The other couple who complained about the homeless (indigent) population being seen before her and her husband, I would say: Firstly, who calls homeless people indigents anymore (or ever)? Were not living in the colonial deep South.... Secondly, Eureka has an extremely high homeless population. I would say its an indication of how GOOD the hospital is that it triaged the homeless patients quickly, instead of leaving them there waiting for hours. Just because youre not homeless doesnt mean you get to be bumped up the Triage levels. Last I checked, being middle-class wasnt a medical emergency... All the other reviews seemed to be written by people who have never been into an Emergency Room before - yes, you have to wait, its called a Triage system. Search it up. If you dont like it, blame the French - they invented it. If you dont like waiting for medical care I suggest you tell Obama, he made it available for everyone regardless of ability to pay. I suggest you try working on the other side of the fence and see what health care providers have to deal with on a day-to-day basis before you start bitching about your 3-hour wait for a hang nail.... Good job Eureka! Youre a rural hospital with a high homeless population doing the best you can. Forget the negative Nancys. I commend you.

My husband was terribly sick on a road trip in July 2016. Saint Josephs in Eureka was the closest emergency room. He was in incredible pain and losing a lot of blood every time he used the toilet. We waited for over SIX HOURS to be seen. We finally see a doctor and its Dr. Jon Fong - officially the worst doctor ever. We told him my husband had some stool tests done and all bacterial infections have been ruled out. So he tells us, well I always treat blood in the stool with antibiotics. And he says every time my husband has a bowel movement to take a sip of pepto bismal. This REALLY made my husband sick. That night he got up more than 30x to make a blood filled bowel movement. So the next day we go back to the ER. We only wait 3+ hours this time. And lucky us, we get the same Dr. Jon Fong. THIS time he treats my husband for CDIF, even though this too was already tested for and eliminated, and sends us on our way. My husband has since been diagnosed (in fact, as soon as we got back to our home state, with one visit to the hospital he was diagnosed) with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Weve been through quite the journey, and now I know I shouldve demanded we see a specialist, but we didnt know. Dr. Fong shouldve known. Shame on him. Our bad experience with St. Joes didnt end with Dr. Fong. While spending 10+ hours in their ER waiting room, I witnessed a man collapse and the staff watch him and do nothing to help. People suffering in the waiting room offered him more help. Then dealing with their medical/billing department was like communicating with a brick wall. Good luck to you, if you end up at this hospital.
