Id really like to give this vet a high score, but they simply made too many mistakes. For starters, I found a kitten at work one day and brought him straight to Lakewood Pet Vet to get him checked out before I brought him home. They were nice and professional and I was glad I chose them. They checked out the kitten and estimated he was 7-8 weeks old, even though he was only about 1 pound. The vet assistant came back to me with a $400 bill for all of the treatments he "needed." There was no way I could afford that and after I told them I just wanted to save the kitten for as cheap as possible they knocked it down to $100, which was fine. Ten days later I brought him in for his first round of shots and everything seemed to be going well. Then a few days after his shots I came home to what was essentially a brain dead kitten. He was still alive and breathing, but according to the vet at the hospital his brain had turned off. He went through a bunch of testing and had been entirely misdiagnosed initially by the vet at the hospital. That night I dropped $500 to later find out that my kitten was not 8 weeks old, that he was 4 weeks old and got his shots entirely too soon. When Lakewood Pet Vet called a few days later to see how his shots went I informed them of the issue and they kind on danced around it, Im assuming so I wouldnt have the opportunity to blame them for their mistake. A few weeks later I take him in for his second round of shots and everything goes well, but then I get him home and notice he has tapeworms. Im not sure how the vet didnt notice that when they took his temperature, but I understood this is usually diagnosed by the pets parents. I called and asked what to do and they prescribed me medicine to pick up the following day. Everything was fine, but I asked if I could buy tapeworm medication anywhere for my roommates two cats. One of the receptionist ladies told me to check PetSmart, but the other swore it had to be prescribed, that it was impossible to find tapeworm medicine anywhere over the counter. I ended up going to PetSmart and finding tapeworm medication. But the real kicker is, I Googled the medication the vet gave me just to see reviews and what to expect, I ended up finding the EXACT same medication for half the price. I dont know if the receptionist was misinformed or if she was lying to get me to buy it from them, but it completely diminished their credibility to me. For his third and final round of shots I also had his pre-op for his neuter done. The only reason why I did it there was because its right by my work and super convenient. The vet agreed that he was now about sixteen weeks, making him right around four weeks when got him. This vet also danced around his hospital visit just as everyone else had. I just had his neuter done and everything went well, just a few minor complaints. Fist, his cone lasted for about five minutes until he was able to pull it off himself, it was definitely too big. I wish they would have told me I wouldnt need it. Second, I was just about to register his chip (sixty dollars, when its about twenty everywhere else) and the chip website wants to charge me an addition 19.99 a year. I understand that its a different business, but I would have like to have been informed prior to having him chipped. The Lakewood Pet Vet is full of nice people, I just wish they were a little more efficient. I also get the vibe that theyre mostly in it for the money, and not for the animals. I understand everything is part of a business, but this is my baby. Id give an arm and a leg for him, I just wish they wouldnt take advantage of that.

On Tuesday, January 192016, my family & I decided, due to her having cancer, our dog Maddie needed to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Michael Handley, DVM was very gracious and understanding when I brought her in @ 1PM to be examined. He explained everything to us. We were allowed to take Maddie home one more time and then bring her back. She knew it was time. When we went back to the office, everyone knew why we were there and left us to say our goodbyes. At about 6PM Maddie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. She is no longer in pain and she is now playing with her 2 sisters: Sheba :& Abby!!! The staff was WONDERFUL! I appreciated their professionalism during this time. Thank you to the staff & Dr. Handley @ Lakewood Pet Vet for the way all this was handled. Cecile Sinclair

Ive only taken my puppy(Nina) here once. Her pet wasnt available on Sunday. And honestly they were really warming and treated us like weve been going since forever. The vet provided great explanation about the situation with Nina. He provided different options and the direction I decided to go was great. Her bump on her side after 2 days was despairing thank god it wasnt anything bad but a reaction to her first rabies shot. But what made me decide to recommend them to anyone was the fact that 2 days after her visit, they gave a curtesy call to see how she was doing

Wow!! Words can not explain and express my gratitude for this place. Dr. Handly helped my husband and I alot. Great staff, great Doc very clean and helpful. We have two Akita pups Prince and Madam. Our little puppy Prince passed away lastnight. They are so comforting in my time of grieving. They also helped us with cremation for our little guy. Madam still needs care so we are glad to have her in great hands here at Lakewood Pet Vet. R.I.P our little Prince Charming

Most of the office staff is friendly, in particular Marie who works at the front desk. She was extremely helpful on our last visit when our dog was in a painful situation. The doctors are very caring and take the time to explain everything clearly. You never feel like you are being rushed during the visit. I would recommend Lakewood Pet Vet to anyone who loves their animals and wants the best for them.

These great people and the vets are very knowledgeable. They were more than kind when we had to put our lab down. And now with our new puppy, theyre very helpful. We came here after years at Lakewood VCA. They immediately won me over with their love for our pets and by taking the time to explain things to us.

Brought my sick puppy in because he was vomiting and throwing up and they turned me away. Said to find an urgent care without even giving me advice as to where.
