Missed diagnosed ear infection. I was told it was allergies. Was told to take over the counter allergy medicine, if it was not better in a week to come back. Came back 1 week later, now I no longer can hear out of both ears! Told me to continue to take allergy medicine for another week. Said it was not ear infection cause there was no blood. After a month of back and fourth with Highland. Finally a family member paid for me to go to a totally different Hospital. Doctor looked in my ear and right away said "oh my you have a bad ear infection, why did I wait so long". I almost lost my hearing permanently cause of Highland. I was giving antibiotics and my hearing came back over the next couple of days. My ears are now sensitive since this happen. I get ear aches and pain easily when I have any kind of cold. I never ever had problems with my ears before until this happen. Avoid this place at all cost. Had a worse experience in 2012 when having a baby. Almost lost my baby cause they did not want to give my a c-section after a failed inducement. My baby even pooped in me. Nurse and Doctors could not make up their mind if the medicine should be turned up or down. I was pissing cranberry red urine, in extreme pain in my liver. Even after a uperdural. One shift was concerned then next shift wasnt. I would not dilate past 4 after several days. Finally a c-section was done. Thought the nightmare was over only to experience more nightmare in the recovery unit. I got no help from the nurses except one late night nurse. My child was not drinking my milk and I kept stressing my concern. They kept telling me she was. Even thou there were no dirty diapers happening. I knew something was wrong. I requested the Doctor and when he came in found out these nurse were filling out a binder saying they were coming in my room helping and changing my babys diaper. LIES! After that hours before my release they were checking on me regularly and treating me like a patient. Also night before leaving I developed large palm size blister that wrapped around my stomach where they left surgical tape on me. More pain. During this stay my baby was making a gargling choking sound off and on, I asked nurse about it and she said sometimes babies that are from c section get fluid stuck in their lungs and she proceed to hold my baby upside down and stick a stick in her thoart and made her vomit on bed. She did this several times. I watched i horror an tears. Later a Doctor came in a firm told us to dont ever do that. She said it in a way as if we did it. The whole time some worker would pass by our room and yell feed your baby. My baby was crying a lot cause she was not getting any milk. I was trying to breast feed every 20 minutes and even had the specialist come and check, she squeezed one tiny drop and said your fine. I was not. It wasnt until the 3rd day when I requested the pedi Doctor come I was giving formula and help. Its too much to list everything that happened here. Total nightmare for first time parents. This place is a hell hole.

2 days I went a dentist to have my painful wisdom tooth pulled and he numbed me and started trying to pull the tooth. I didnt feel pain but I started having an anxiety attack and was about to pass out I jumped out of his car and left. My tooth now was really hurting so 3 hrs later I went to urgent care and they gave me some pain medicine. The next morning which is Oct 17, 2014 I called Highland and told them what happened and they gave me their address. I arrived around 11am coming from the Sacramento area. I was so nerves because people said that was also waiting said that they werent going to put me to sleep and thats the only reason why I had drove over a hour trip . So when it was my turn I told that what happened and that I needed to be put to sleep. They said no they couldnt put me to sleep I had to decide was I going to leave and find another place that could put me to sleep. The people understood what I had just went through and gave me the best service ever. (this was the first time that I ever had a tooth pulled) The doctors in the room with helped me through getting my tooth and I didnt have an anxiety attack and I didnt really getting numbed and MOST OF ALL I DIDN"T ANY KNOW THAT THE TOOTH was out until they said that I could get up. Man I thank GOD for them. I been away from the bay area for over20 years and the last time I came was when my brother had surgery that saved his life again. I give Highland a TRIPLE A in my book thanks for helping me and others. If I ever need another tooth pulled I will drive those long miles and pay gas and toll to come back to get them done. No one else will ever pull me teeth but Highland

Your experience changes with where you are at in the hospital. Ive had good experiences with vision, dental, and therapy, although the therapy here is short term meaning that you can only go for so many sessions. The worst parts are the er, the lab, and the womens clinic. The Er doctors are usually okay, but I had one that told me I had to do a medical test when I said I was scared and was freaking out. She threatened to put in my file that I was uncooperative, even though I was being more than cooperative by letting them do the test in the first place as it was not necessary to do at that moment. The lab is a hit and miss. Ive had a lady before that was registering me do a personal phone call before. I dont think thats appropriate. The womens clinic is the worst out of the whole hospital. Ive had 3 babies at this hospital. And its gotten worse over time. The midwives are very nice and understanding. Thats not my problem with the clinic. My problem is wait time. I once had a 9am appointment only to be told that my doctor wasnt in and wouldnt be until 10 am. I constantly get registered after my appointment times. Im told by nurses that services that the clinic offers, such as psych appointments for mothers that may be experiencing stress, anxiety, or post partum depression arent available. If you have a 9am appointment, make sure your schedule is clear until 12, because thats when youll be done. Hour waiting in room, 10 minutes with the doctor, half an hour waiting for next appointment list. I will not be coming back to this clinic ever after todays visit. Im tired of waiting so long for 5 minutes with someone.

Actually, I would rate my visit to the "same day clinic" at five stars and my visit to the pharmacy at two stars. The same day clinic was very well organized and everyone was quite helpful. The pharmacy had long lines, which may be unavoidable, but they did little to make the waiting time pleasant. I suggested to someone else in line that they could have a "take a number" system that would help a lot, and was told that they did have one, but it was disconnected by one of the managers. I cant imagine why. My only guess is that one or possibly a few patients complained and now everyone has to suffer. Additionally, they call out names through a speaker that distorts and is nearly impossible to understand most of the time. I stood in one long line down the hall to drop off my prescriptions. I was told that it would be ready in a certain amount of time. I went to my doctor appointment and returned to the pharmacy about 45 minutes later than when it was supposed to be ready. I got in line and waited another hour to get to a window. I was then told that it would be another half hour before it was ready and would I please not get in line before my name was announced. My back and bad hip were hurting quite a bit by the time I finally got my prescriptions. On the way home, the extremely thin paper bag that my prescriptions had been put into ripped and I didnt realize this when it happened. I lost one of my prescriptions because of that. Plastic bags would be advisable. And please use the numbers.
