Went to ER diagnosis 6mm kidney stone. The soonest laser surgery would be 3 months,,,yes 3 months in the future. Tried to call Urology Dept and no answer. Went in person and called right in front of receptionists...yes all 3 of them...no phone rang. They acknowlege for 3 months now photo service worked intermittentaly at best. Gave me a pre printed "call customer service" form and said to call them since their own complaints fell on deaf ears. Called Customer Service....yes they have known for over 3 months,,,,said to call KRON News and complain since their complaints were not working. Even Main number to hospital intermittently works.... 885-5000. Now to the good part. Finally after screaming in pain the put me in on standby. Had the operation ...by 3 Residents...Amatuers at best...they sent me home with a catheter bag full of blood. Then after two days of bleeding profusely and calling without being able to get thru on the phone we went down in person to Urology Dept. The Older bald headed doctor said "Do you have an appoointment? Sure if you would have a phone system that worked. They drained cupfulls of blood clots from me, sent me home saying i would be fine, I said no i wouldnt, 20 steps later im filling up the cather with blood clots again. They said this was first time they ever experience this...well of course since they were all Residents with no practical experience!! It took the nurses to force the Resident doctors...all 3 of them..to put me in the hospital where i spent another 4 days. And it took the nurses in the hospital to force the doctors....no Resident Amatuers to keep me for the last 2 days. What a total HOUSE OF HORRORS. The nurses are absolutely GREAT!! The Resident doctors they use maybe for CHEAP WAGES absolutely SUCK! I could have died there!!! Right now Im seeking other Hospitals so I wont almost die.Call it MALLEY MADNESS

Shameful place, nearly malpractice... A family member was admitted for water retention, stayed one week, then discharged from the hospital only to return for admittance again after a few days this time for congestive heart and acute kidney failure due to further retaining water. The staff accused the patient of not taking his newly prescribed medication for water retention. However, the medication was not on the discharge instructions. There is obviously a lack of communication between the negligent staff that fell just short of killing my family member. Additionally, their systems are not in sync whatsoever, if it werent for the patients knowledgeable family members of patient meds and medical history, this hospital would just about prescribe anything and waste valuable time and tax dollars on the damages caused to the patients by experimental prescription, a lack of staff communication and fundamental care for patients like they have made oaths to prioritize when commenced as medical professionals. The staff is also very rude and unprofessional, and allow fragile patients to drive themselves home upon discharge, which is very high risk. Major policies and a serious overhaul are needed at this establishment. Advice to staff: Use common sense. Do your job with pride or switch careers if you cant handle the pressure. Not all patients there are homeless and can be kicked to the curb when family requested for the staff to notify them when the patient receives clearance for discharge. Advice to prospective patients and patient family members: Dont expect the staff to keep the patient or family informed, youll have to jump through hoops and over ladders to get answers to simple questions about your loved one. Accept medical care from SCVMC at your own risk!

Nothing. This hospitals mission is to deliver stickly by caesarian (C-section). It is a system they have. First they administer synthetic oxytocin (pitocin) (to charge more $) that usually slows down opening of cervix but I increases contractions and PAIN. After this, the mom feels much more pain so more than likely will request narcotic pain relief ( morphine or the like) (again adding to the bill). They then up the dose on petocin to increase contractions and of course pain. After a while the IV administered pain relief will stop working ( note that the doctors will keep asking if you want the epidural since you first walk in) therefore making the patient want something much stronger, the epidural shot. The anesthesiologist will happily apply the shot (again a nice hefty charge added to bill) which will also hinder any further progress of potential vaginal delivery if patient has been induced ( by pitocin). From here on out the doc will check the cervix but only to play the part because they know if epidural is done before cervix is ripe it will stop it from opening (the epidural numbs from the waist down so how can cervix work if numbed. But regardless if cervix keeps opening doc will say its not and theres no progress (arrest dialation) and again over and over recommend a c section. In the end they will give you no option other than c section ( more $ added to bill). Ultimately their goal is to put you through all the steps leading up to a c section. The doctors get paid, the anesthesiologist gets paid the surgeon gets paid. Every body gets a piece of the pie.

I wouldnt give a star for emergency room. I took my husband on Sunday, Jan. 8, to Valley emergency room. After some test, the doctor (he was nice) suggested to transfer him to private room for over night stay due to his lung problem. He was in same room and bed since 9 a.m. since we arrived. No food, No water, no help to bathroom or any other help that a patient suppose to receive. I had to take care of him myself. Several time we requested food for him, but no one brought any food. When we asked for water the nurse told me to get it from the faucet. When I filled my own bottle with faucet water, it was cloudy and smelled. At 8 p.m I had to go out and buy food and water for him. The next door patient was in pain and asking for help. No one checked on her. Nurses from other department were stopping by and talking about their personal thing instead taking care of those patient who asked for help. Over years I had experience with Stanford emergency room, OConner Emergency room, Palo Alto Clinic Emergency room, and El Camino Emergency room, but none were like this experience. When we asked for the supervisor to complain around 10 p.m., he had no respect and said if we are not happy we can leave. One of the nurses was nice and said that we have to wait till the morning and say nothing. For a moment I thought maybe I am in third world country, I asked my husband are we in America? Then on Monday morning, everything changed the new crew were very nice and helpful especially, the hospital team were much better than Sunday crew in Emergency room.

*Summary: I had a severe UTI and couldnt wait to have it treated so I came here. $1700 later, they would not prescribe the antibiotics I needed . I later went to a (different) clinic and it cost only $200 for tests and doctors visit, got antibiotics that day ($8) and felt much better within a couple days. *Second Edit: In addition to the second $900 bill, I got a third $550 bill for STD tests. *EDITED 7/31* (reduced by two stars) *I just got the bill for my visit. One urinalysis and one pap = $902! AND they wouldnt diagnose my UTI and sent me away w/o antibiotics. The infection spread to my kidneys a few days later. So I went to John Muir medical center urgent care in San Ramon. Got an appointment that same day. Only $100 for a consultation w/ a doctor and urinalysis. (Urinalysis was only $16, not $450) They prescribed a 3-day round of antibiotics was $8.99. I felt better after about a day or two. Original 7/17 rating (before seeing the bill): I spent a total of six hours there and received no diagnosis or treatment for my UTI (which quickly turned into a kidney infection) BUT I did get seen fairly quickly for a low priority ER walk-in. Within about an hour -- had I needed it -- pain relief was offered. It was unfortunate that I will have to pay a ton of money for basically nothing but I understand diagnoses arent always a piece of cake. I am mostly irritated that no one was able to tell me how much the various tests cost (I dont have insurance). Three days later I went somewhere else and got the help I needed.
