STOP! Dont go here. Go next door to SAGE Emergency. Dont make the mistake I made. My cat was in distress and he was only 3 years old. It was midnight and we had to go to this hospital to try to save his life. We got to the door but it was locked. We had to wait for someone to answer. I told the woman that opened the door my cat was gasping for air. She took him but didnt let us in with her. Obviously my husband and I were also distressed. She came out and told us to go I to the waiting room. A few minutes later a non emphatic vet named Dr. Graham came into the room and said " your cat is dying". I said "if he’s dying bring him to me so he can die in my arms". Dr. Graham repeated that he was dying and stood there like a deer in the headlights. I scream to "get him now and let me have him" Dr. Graham took her time going into the other room but another woman came back in with my sweet boy already dead. I asked why they shaved his paw and was told they wanted to put in an IV but he was dying. So instead of giving my boy a shot to be more comfortable they let him GASP FOR AIR! Instead of allowing me to be with him to calm him down they allowed him to be on a cold steel table with strangers watch him die. Not 5 minutes later we were told “the cost will be $210 " and since we didnt have an exam we wont charge you for that part. So cold, no empathy, no consideration and apparently they did NOT follow procedure and let me be with him or even ask me if I wanted to be in with him. Those of you that gave this place 5 stars probably didnt have their pet die or have the vet just watch them suffer. My own vet told me this pace has an awful reputation and I should have gone to Sage but I didnt know. Now I do. Im dealing with this sudden loss of my 3 year old cat; fine one minute and crying in pain the next. Im not the only one grieving; his little buddy that he was bonded with is stressed and keep looking for him. Its sad all around. Avoid this place or at least the after hour vet. You need to be treated with consideration, respect and above all kindness.

I have been using the NPVEC since the late 70s - almost as long as they have been in business. In the last 20 years, I have used them often enough that I almost consider them my second veterinary clinic. They are definitely my first preference for almost all emergencies. I have gone to another after-hours location when time was a critical factor (completely blocked, and I did not know for how long), and later that week when I knew he would need surgery - but otherwise, they are where I go. 9 years ago I had a cat that was dying on a Sunday - and I know that they can have a lot of unhappy dogs in the waiting area, so I was hoping I could wait until my vet was open. It became obvious that I needed to act sooner, so I called them and told them I would wait in the car for a room - they made a room available immediately so all I needed to do was walk quickly through to the room. They also told me I could take as long as I wanted before they came to let him go - but having been watching him all day, I told them I wanted to do it quickly - and then they let me stay with him after. The surprise was coming home later in the week to a clay paw-print with Akelas name. They have always been able to take a critical case to an emergency treatment before requiring paperwork - putting the welfare of the cat first. I am very glad that they are 24/7 now, so I dont need to stop treatment to transport a cat who is not stable yet. And when I found another cat had died while I was gone for the day, they were willing to do an x-ray to ensure that he had not met with foul play (inside cat but a cage with outside access). And once again, they sent him to Bubbling Wells for me, and I have his paw-print and name also. For all emergencies, they are simply the best available for my cats.

While the doctors and staff here are very responsive, they are not cheap. They make you sign a ridiculous estimate that explains how the costs might range from $500 to $2000 dollars (as if the low end is even a possibility). And the estimates are way off. When we brought our puppy in with severe food poisoning, they estimated a single x-ray and possible ultrasound with $300 of meds to make him comfortable and rule out a blockage. After 3 X-rays and almost $500 of meds while I was sleeping, they still needed to order the ultrasound. Where was that in the estimate? We got our dog back safely, and thats the important part, but it felt like a total nickel and dime job. Why not just tell me youre going to make me spend $600 on X-rays and then still probably need the ultrasound instead of making it seem like the $500 ultrasound is the expensive option? Why order the $30 giardia snap test when we told you he recently had giardia and the test would come back false positive? Why does it cost $70 to get blood pressure taken? These are questions that couldnt be answered. And since the bill had to be paid in full to take the pup home they are questions that are now long forgotten by the doctors and staff at this clinic. Edit: While they got the job done, I question their decision making after reading all doctors notes and reports. Even the radiologist reviewing the second X-ray suggested an ultrasound instead of a third X-ray, but they ordered a third X-ray anyways. Not sure how that happens other than to rack up another couple of hundred dollars on the bill. Perhaps this was my fault for putting where I work on the admission documents. They must see nothing but dollar signs after that.

I noticed late one Sunday on one of our walks that my baby girl Baya was peeing an awful lot and towards the end of the run, she was yelping and spots of blood coming out while she tried to pee. I freakin panicked and called my cousin for help. She told me to contact NP Veterinary Emergency. I called them, told them what was happening and they were so kind. The lady that answered the phone was very calm and told me to bring her right in. Baya ended up having a minor bladder infection and I cant begin to explain how nice, caring, THOROUGH, and informative they were. The front desk, the Dr., everyone. The Dr. had given me all options, and did not try and push unnecessary treatments on me. He was straight forward, and truly cared for my dog. When it came time to pay, I was secretly having a damn heart attack. I got to the front and she told me it was only $xxx.xx. I said "waaaa? For everything?Medication and all?" Heart attack averted She even gave me a couple different options on how to pay, and I walked out of there so happy I could dance. Baya wasnt as happy as I was, but the pain meds they gave her soon had us both cuddled up in bed watching cartoons with my daughter. You always hope youll never have to bring your fur baby to the emergency vet, but crap happens. I can honestly say, NPVE clinic is somewhere I will always keep in mind, recommend and be thankful to.
