I am actually really surprised at some of the reviews on here. I just heard from a friend that lives in the area that he may have a herniated disk. As I was writing to him I thought I would share my experience with him when I had spinal issues and where I went. I really enjoyed every moment with this company. Of course there were a few things I disagreed with, especially when it came to what the Dr. wanted to do first before we went strait to surgery. Most of these were what I was told we had to do before the insurance would cover further steps. I first had an injection at the site of my pain. This was one of the things I disagreed with, mostly because if there was pain, I would have thought it was because something was wrong. If you break your arm, there is going to be pain, and if you went to the ER and the DR said lets shoot some stuff in your arm to make the pain numb but not fix the bone then I would consider going to another ER. Anyway, the injections just numbed the area and lasted about a week. My next follow up visit was basically what I wanted to hear from the Dr.," Lets do Surgery”. Of course I was all in. Surgery went well, I recovered fast, returned to work and had no issues since then. I do have some stiffness now and then, but stretching is always a positive thing to do, and that usually helps out. So, would I recommend this place... Well based off my experience I would say yes. That was about 6 years ago, I have no clue how they are now. To finish off this review, I felt the need to make up a new google account to keep my information private. I really do not know who was replying to most of these reviews on here, but they are sorta borderline unprofessional and impolite. I usually can handle seeing people upset, and a lot of people have what is called a perceived perception on any given situation, meaning they perceive they were treated bad, but it may not always be the businesses fault. Regardless, I hope from here on out, whoever is replying to the reviews, maybe a little more courtesy in the future. I know personally if I go to a website and read the reviews on a company, I can handle the bad reviews and give the place a chance, but when I see the company lashing back and even with one reply, insinuate that the person used their insurance money for other things. That gets a little personal, and it would make me, if I was looking at the reviews without knowing anything about the place, a little hesitant to even want to call you. Especially since a few of the reviews were talking about how they feel they were treated poorly and the staff was rude. So, be cheery, reply to further reviews without being rude especially when they are saying your being rude and keep striving to be the best at what you do! Sincerely, John Smith... Im editing this post to reflect my overall experience since becoming a patient in February of 2016. The doctors at this practice came highly recommended to me by my primary care physician. I have really liked the 2 doctors, Janssen and Leimbach, and the N.P., Vera Sekula, who is the provider I am now seeing. Vera is extremely knowledgable, caring, explains things well, takes as much time as you need with her, and was the first to diagnose and treat a secondary issue that greatly reduced my pain. Shes also the reason I have stayed with this practice after a very rough start. She alone would be a 5 star review. Dr. Janssen is the physician I saw on my first few visits and he was personable, explained things well, and gave me confidence in his abilities if surgery were ever needed. My only complaint about him is that those visits seemed to be very rushed. Dr Leimbach has been the doctor Ive had the least contact with. He has performed two minor procedures while I was under light sedation, both went very well. My biggest complaint from this practice however has been the support and office staff. I will first say that there have been some individuals that have bent over backwards and have been incredibly nice, unfortunately thats been more the exception than the rule. I have found several people on the phone to be curt, impatient, and even snippy at times. If you have an issue that needs resolved that doesnt require an office visit, it is very difficult to get anything accomplished. This has been a big issue for me. Other issues at this office have been the length of time to get on the schedule (except for Vera), long waits in uncomfortable chairs, disorganization, and miscommunication. I think these things could easily be solved and I hope they take this review and others seriously. There IS a reason the google reviews are only 3 stars and I dont believe that its the physicians at all.

My first experience with Dr. Michael Janssen for a 3 level cervical discectomy and fusion went fine, although some of the nursing staff at the Lutheran Hospital where the surgery was done could use a good throat punch. So, I had no reasons not to have any confidence in him with a two level lower lumbar discectomy and fusion. He set up the operation for Health One Exempla North Suburban. Instead of spacing out my two required surgeries for Monday and Friday, giving me enough time to recover, they changed my schedule to Monday and Wednesday. Well, on Wednesday, after the second surgery, I was back in my room and suffered a heart attack from the pain. While being treated for the heart attack for 6 hours by some inept heart dr. I died, was resuscitated, and in a coma on life support for six days. I was finally released from the hospital after 17 days. During my followup visit with Dr. Janssen, who told his NP to call the hospital and tell them they had a risk mgmt. issue, he basically shined on my experience and said nothing about maybe he shouldnt have scheduled the two surgeries so close together. I left with no followup and prescriptions for vicodin and valium. I could barely walk with a walker or write my name. There was no followup up, nothing to treat my hypoxic episode and subsequent brain damage. Now, I have Lance-Adams Syndrome with anoxic encephalapathy. A progressive nuero-muscular disorder similar to Parkinsons Disease with brain damage. I dont recommend that you go to this center or see Dr. Michael Janssen, who has been sued before(do some Google research on him). When I got my records from North Suburban, it stated I had the heart attack as I was leaving the hospital on Friday, the 14th of Sept., two days after I really had it. A pretty neat trick considering I was in a COMA on life support at the time. All this guy was concerned with was covering his butt.

The doctor wasnt to bad but their care was horrible especially the PA. My wife got a disc fusion in November the procedure went well she was able to walk and move. Then she got a really bad headache a day or two after the surgery. We did research and saw that she had all the symptoms of cerebral spinal fluid leak. She wasnt able to sit up in bed or even pick her head up off the pillow without intense pain. So we ended up and came back to the hospital in an ambulance because she couldnt sit up. Everyone we have talked in the ER told us it was a cerebral spinal fluid leak causing the problems and we talked to at least six different doctors. So she got an mri and even the lady that did the mri said "Im not a doctor but I can see a leak of spinal fluid." So we waited to hear from the doctor but we didnt, we heard from the rude PA and she said "We dont see a spinal fluid leak but theres a screw that looks out of place so we need to go back in and fix it." So in my eyes they just didnt want to admit that they did puncture her dura and just go in and fix it. Then we ended up being put in a room with another lady that has been dealing the same problems, and come to find she is dealing with the same rude PA and to top it off they left her with this spinal headache for five weeks saying it wasnt a spinal headache. This lady went through three surgeries and dont know if its fixed yet still. So know my wife is going for her third surgery today November 14. If youre looking for a spinal facility dont go here unless you want to be treated like crap by the PA and get your dura torn and be told thats not the problem and to top it off when you need medication to help with the headaches the PA only rights a dose for one time not caring about the rest of the night not being able to sleep or sit up or do anything at that matter.
