I had to create a voice for the unnecessary horrible treatment of animals, and their loving owners, who are the at the most vulnerable moments of their lives. BEWARE and please find a kinder emergency veterinarian office in the Southern Delaware area for your beloved pet in their final hours. Sincerely. Bless those that cant speak for themselves. May 26, 2013 To whom it may concern, Its taken a year for me to write this as it is so painful to express in words but it must be documented . On May 26th, 2012 I brought my beloved Ginger (Golden Retriever) into your facility as she was in acute abdominal pain. My fear was that she had a twisted stomach.... after much testing and x-rays , the Veterinarian delightfully acknowledged she didnt have a twisted stomach, she declared the ("the good news") is she had fatal cancer of the spleen. Long story short, we had to put her down. She was then literally stabbed in the paw by the technician with a thick needle , without a sedative or topical pain reliever, and that made her scream in pain ...and then she vomited. (This dog had the highest tolerance to pain, cold, heat, etc....) Then the tech literally barbacically dragged her by the throat (rope they had) to another room, without her own harness, as I repeatedly plead with her "please no dont, please stop, use her harness." The Techs attitude was "just anothers days work", and it suddenly felt like a kill shelter,. Worse more, and even more confusing, I was not sure if the Propofol had already been uploaded into Gingers system, and when asked, no one would give me an answer. I assumed it already had, and started to say my goodbyes. They finally shaved her back leg, (once they dragged Ginger to the other room), finally, finally gave Ginger a sedative, and administered PropofoI. (This should have been protocol and explained)I We said goodbye finally. Can you imagine the horror, and the confusion? This was my Love of my life who lived a dignified and blessed life. She died in pain and horror in the hands Monsters who call themselves "animal lovers." I have grieved more about how she was treated during her final moments of her life than anything else. A year later it still makes me sick to my stomach to think of how poorly she was treated by these people in her final hour. If they had known her maybe they would have been kinder. She was she epitome of sweet, smart, loyal, athletic, ball obsessed, sensitive, hilarious, loving and fun. Shame on you. My previous vet in Washington State would have never ever ever... And even two weeks later when we went to pick up her creamated ashes...no one looked us in the eye or said a word. They just collected money and looked at the ground. Shame.

Please know that this facility is not a certified Animal Hospital. Also it is extremely important to know who the Doctor is on call. If they tell you Doctor Dobbins is the emergency doctor - we strongly recommend that you take your pet to another emergency care facility immediately! We called advising that we were bringing our puppy in with an emergency situation at 4am in the morning. We called again when we were only 10 minutes away. When we arrived Doctor Dobbins will still sleeping. He did not show up in the Private Room for a good 15 minutes and then proceeded to take notes. He did not immediately examine our dog, He was more focused on taking notes and covering his tracks. The care was below adequate. The bed side manner was just plain rude and there was no care or compassion for our pet. Fortunately our dog made it to seeing our regular vet early the next morning and is on the road to recovery. We will never take another pet to this facility. We will drive 2 hours to Annapolis to ensure our pets get the care they deserve. We urge everyone to identify and emergency facility that is certified and has good caring vets so that when you need one - you know exactly where to go. We will know next time. And it will not be Dover!

I was extremely impressed with this place. I was a little sceptic after reading some of these reviews, but its the only place around so i really didnt have a choice. Now if I did have a choice, I would still go here. I took my dog in for a really bad back issue, he couldnt move his back legs. Hes old and I as really worried and when I went in they were able to see me quickly. The doctor was so kind and explained to me what she thought, what they could do and how much it would cost. She even helped me with my budget by going over some cheaper options. I was really distraught and was waiting for my husband to meet me there so we could decide what to do and while I waited, they brought in a bed and blanket for my dog and gave me a drink. They didnt act like they were in a hurry for us to leave or anything. We finally decided on some medicine for my dog and he is now doing great. The doctor really cared too, she asked that we call her after a few days to giver her an update. I will forever be grateful to what they did for my dog, without them he could have been paralyzed, now Ill be able to have him around for a while longer.
