I never post reviews but I have to. I do not understand why they have almost 5 stars. Absolutely horrible experience. My big boy mutt who weighs an average of 134 -140lbs got sick early morning, two days before Hurricane Matthew was headed our way. You can imagine the chaos. His health deteriorated within two hours. He wasnt standing and his eyes looked like they were sinking in. He was have having uncontrollable bloody diarrhea, vomiting non stop and blood coming out of his nose. I took a risk and put him in my car to rush him to Avacado Clinic (my first choice) but they were in surgery, I took him to English plaza they had me wait a while but and they were in surgery too, they sent me to Homestead Animal hospital but same situation so they called and sent me to Southland Clinic I arrived at around 12:30 pm The staff was nice. But before they checked him they wanted a down payment for $500 . that should have been a sign and immediately a red flag. I have never encountered that and Ive owned dogs my entire life and usually go to Miami Vet in Kendall for emergencies but due to his condition I didnt want to risk being in the car for 30-40 mins. They take me into a room the techs weigh him and he weighed 106lbs and a fever of 102. I remained on the ground with my boy to keep him comforted. They wanted to run blood work and all regular things. I asked the tech (who was super nice and calm- should be a vet) if he could get some IV fluids. Apparently that was the wrong question because the vet came in and sarcastically and seriously asked me, "What IV would I like him to give to give him!?". I snapped back saying, "You tell me! Youre the vet. Thats why Im here". How do you say that to someone who is stressed about their pet?? Then says something about trust and that he isnt there to charge me for unnecessary things but it is a business. I had had it with this jerk. Never in my life had I been treated this way. They ran the tests. Heartworm free, blood work was all normal except for his creatine levels which can go out of whack when a dog or human is dehydrated. He goes on to tell me that my dog has kidney failure, it was probably my previous vets fault, he needs to stay on meds for his kidney forever. They finally gave him an IV at 4:30 pm !! Would a child wait that long? Thank god I messaged my mom who is a nurse and she read the reports and calmed me down. I denied they meds they insisted I get. Paid $44.50 just for the office visit and the bill was $600+ but after only blood work and IV I left paying $451 in total. They didnt give me any medications for him. No antibiotics, no extra IV, no vomit meds and no clear answer as to what was wrong with my dog. Just told me the meds were in the IV and thats it. They told me he needs to be hospitalized but couldnt because of his size and aggression. Took my dog to English plaza the next day spent another $160. The vet Dr. Katie Berg sat with me on the floor. She wasnt worried about his kidney and said the same exact thing as my mom from looking at the reports. Gave him antibiotics, cernia (to stop the vomiting) and IV fluids and even taught me how to give him the fluids at home and sent me home for everything and even hand wrote exact care instructions. She didnt even know of my horrid experience the day before. Completely different experience and I wish she was a vet down here but she was just filling in for that day. I will NEVER take any of my pets there. EVER. Cant trust him. Has fancy equipment to make up for his loss of knowledge and incites fear in worried clients. Disgusted.

TL;DR... DO NOT COME HERE. GO TO GILLEYS INSTEAD. YOU WILL SAVE TIME AND MONEY AND THEY WILL TREAT YOU, AND YOUR PET BETTER. WORST service of any business Ive ever been to. I came here simply because they are open later than Gilleys Animal Clinic, but I regret it. I came here twice. The first time, the blonde female vet saw my dog and didnt seem to really care or know too much. She barely spoke english and she gave me vague answers to all my questions. The second time everything was TERRIBLE. The receptionist claimed that my dog was "Aggressive" last time even though my dog is very well trained and gentle. They made us wait 20 min. in the lobby and then called us into a tiny little room where we expected to wait maybe another 10 or 15 minutes before being seen. WE WAITED FOR OVER AN HOUR. They kept telling us it would be "just a sec" without apologizing for the inconvenience or explaining the situation. Finally I decided to leave and said "Ive waited far too long" the lady rudely responded "okay bye have a nice day." This business DOES NOT RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS. They did not respect my time. They are also much more expensive than Gilleys.

We have been visiting Southland for their veterinary services for our dogs and couldnt be happier. The caring for our dogs and family has been above and beyond what weve experienced at any other animal hospital, or service oriented business for the matter, in a very long time. We were leaving the country and our dog had a recent surgery. We decided to board her here for the first time to be under medical supervision. We usually drive over an hour to go somewhere else weve trusted for years. I was blown away by the service we received. Pictures and updates texted every day while abroad. Therapy for the leg that was repaired. Quick action to an lingering eye infection. When I arrived to pick her up I was greeted by the wonderful staff who shared more photos and told me all about how the stay went. She had fun with costumes, tons of spoiling and attention, and love from the team. To have a vet where the dog loves to go is an incredible opportunity. To know I can board her, and my others, minutes from home is amazing. I do recommend and will continue to everyone I know. Thank you!

Growing up on farms in Ohio, I have a lot of experience dealing with veterinarians. Southland Animal Hospital is possibly the best small animal veterinarian we have ever been to. Dr. Toledo and staff are all very knowledgeable, as you would expect. But it is their attitude that truly makes them stand out. You are greeted when you walk in with a smile. Phone calls and questions are returned the same day! And Im sorry if this offends anyone, they all speak clear English. This is a huge deal for those of us who didnt grow up in South Florida, especially when it comes down to medical care for our pets. Prices are very, very affordable and they dont nickel and dime you to death for things like cotton balls, Q-Tips and other small consumables. As long as we are living in South Florida, Southland is the only veterinary care provider that we will use.

We were visitors to the nearby national parks when our beloved Gabe developed a rash. Not being familiar with the area we relied on this site and reviews. Our experience was so wonderful 5 stars does not seem fair! From the doctor to each staff member we met the appointment was terrific. All the needed medication was clearly explained, our vet tech called the next day to check on Gabe, and knowing we will be far from Homestead when the 14 day culture test is completed they made arrangements with us to connect long distance. All in all what could have been a tense situation was comforting and reassuring Gabe will soon be 100% well. Each person proved to be sincere knowledgeable animal lovers - what more could a pet owner hope for.
