Be advised: up-front money collection may cause you a headache. I was asked to pay my insurance deductible+percentage up front by the receptionist instead of what I would consider the "usual" healthcare insurance system in which they bill your insurance and then you receive a bill in the mail to pay. Not to be confused with a provider co-pay of $25-45; this was for diagnostic testing and they asked for several hundred up front without providing any documentation of cost other than my credit card receipt. At first reception asked me for an incorrect amount based on an annual deductible that must be paid before insurance kicks in 80% coverage; they assumed I had not paid this deductible and were trying to collect a larger portion of it. Luckily I printed the previous deductible payments from my providers website ahead of time and alerted reception to this info so the collected amount was substantially lower. I left the hospital thinking I had paid the remaining smaller balance of the annual deductible and 20% of the remaining bill - I thought this item was, at this point, 100% paid for. Once they had billed insurance, the amount reception asked for wasnt high enough. Reception had apparently adjusted it too low. I dont understand how this is possible. The only factor I wasnt given was the itemized testing cost; how could reception at a hospital not have accurate information of their own services costs? Again, reception provided me with no documentation other than my credit card receipt which wasnt itemized, so I cannot argue successfully about how I thought this was 100% paid for already. So the final cost ended up being somewhere slightly higher than what I paid beforehand, but it was still a lot lower than what reception asked me for when first approached. What if I had blindly paid their originally requested price? Scary. I wanted to leave this review so that someone might feel prepared and properly equipped to ask for an itemized document. I usually dont hand people money without something in writing that says what you are paying for. I am personally against this practice of asking for payment up front in general, but it wouldnt be as big an issue if they were providing documentation for the money they are asking for. Accountability is appreciated. Personally, I will probably avoid this facility in the future, or at least call ahead and make it clear Im not paying for anything they cant give me documentation for. I gave them two stars for "disliked it" because, lets be fair, our medical system is broken, and this happens a lot. I felt I probably should reserve "hated it" (one star) for something out of the norm. I am not reviewing it so that you will run away, I am reviewing it so that you will be attentive to your payment situation.

Do not go to this facility. They didn’t do anything for me that an outpatient psychiatrist couldn’t do and then charged me an outrageous amount for INHUMANE “care.” I was a patient here twice and both times I received poor care, but the second time was completely unacceptable. My days were spent doing nothing. The psychiatrist saw me twice and for 5 brief minutes despite me being there for FIVE days. My niece brought in 3 pairs of clothes and pajamas for me on the first day of my admission. I was never given my clothes despite asking repeatedly for them. I was always told they’re locked up and cannot get them. I was forced to wear the same outfit for my entire 5 day stay. That is unacceptable and INHUMANE. I was wearing the same outfit both times I saw the psychiatrist and I believe this negatively impacted his opinion of my progress. Upon my discharge, I asked again for my clothes and was informed that the facility had lost them all. During my stay, no one ever told my niece that I needed replacement clothes. My outpatient psychiatrist informed me that he was never consulted by any inpatient physician or staff member at North Bay Hospital. I should have been released to his care sooner. If my niece, who is a RN, had not intervened my hospital stay would have been even longer. I was supposed to be on a diabetic diet, yet was given an excessive amount of carbohydrates and sugar even when better options were available. This hospital is incompetent and unnecessarily kept me for longer than was needed for financial gain. Communication between my niece (next of kin) and the facility was extremely difficult despite my niece giving staff the correct passcode. She had to go up the chain of command to get any of her concerns addressed. I was given the medication Risperdal during my first admission. My niece, not the staff, recognized that I was exhibiting serious side effects of this medication during visits. I had tremors, shuffling gait, anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, and was more tired than usual. I have a sleep disorder and lack of sleep put me into a psychosis. I am not bipolar. If the inpatient doctor who spent only 5 minutes with me would have made a simple call to my psychiatrist who had seen me for 2 years, he could have informed him of this. Upon admission my niece informed staff that I was allergic to Risperdal. Although I am not certain, I believe they gave Risperdal to me during my second admission as well.

Class action lawsuit time.Look for post with attorneys name and information. My adult daughter is disabled and we have managed to give her the best quality of life that we can.We moved here from South Carolina and have not been able to find a psychiatrist in pasco county that will take Medicare to see her.She ran out of here sertaline , invega and clonipan so we went to Morton plant emergency room in new port richey. After all we have went through getting her were she had some quality of life we needed enough of her medicine to get her through at least another 2 weeks. We had to beg the doctor to prescribe anything as he said do to all the drug problems in pasco county this hospital doesnt prescribe any controlled substance and we need to go to Tampa or Clearwater which means they dont want the expense involved with treating a life long tax paying citizens with a severely disabled daughter so we will make a policy to not prescribe anything and send them away were who knows if they will tell us the same thing.Whatever happened to physician do no harm. Its turned in to physician do nothing at all.He prescribed the sertaline and invega and said he would not prescribe the clonipan and she would most likely have a seizure coming off of this medicine and we should drive back to South Carolina which is impossible do to transportation. We can already tell shes having problems so all we can do is wait for the seizures to start and call 911.I swear when this happens Im going to every attorney there is because Im sure they have done this to a lot of other good people who are not drug addicts as they claim is the problem and im suing this hospital. If they have done this to you look for the information here or Im starting a blog and the information will be there.

I been in this Hospital 6 times in the last 2 years, I never had a bad experience in this Hospital in the way they care about me, in the last 4 months I been in Miami taking care of my parents ( both with little dementia, cancer etc), and they had been admitted in the Mercy Hospital in Miami and also in the Baptist Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables ( consider one of the best in the nation) and let me tell you, the Morton Plant North Bay Hospital is the best by far!! for example in the mercy or The Drs Hospital if you call a nurse form your room they take normally 3 to 5 minutes and sometimes you have to go to the front desk of the nurses to ask for help, here I did measure the time and is incredible effective and fast they take 13 to 25 SECONDS to be at your room, I was so surprise that when my parents went to visit me I did the proof and I called a nurse and 2 came in less than 23 seconds!! My parents also agreed that this Hospital is the best, I want to thank the staff that did this and encourage them to continue with this great service, Jolene W. my nurse, Olivia D. my Tech, Monica C. (Charge nurse) ( even her assist me one time, great team work!) Bridget N. my nurse, Courtney D, my tech, Carla my nurse, Ivette and in the ER Jeff and Derick the pharmacist , you all been great, continue doing your job not for money but for vocation! For the management your are doing a great job having this great people in your staff!!! You are the best and if I can give more starts I will give you the maximum!
