Be forwarned, THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I ate some cookies this evening (5/27/13 Memorial Day) and had an allergic reaction. My tongue went numb, throat got scratchy and became short of breath. Uh oh, time to visit a Dr. Being closer to Florida Hospital AKA Hellen Ellis I drove myself there. Walked through the front door to the ER straight to the desk for help, telling the lady working that I need to see a Dr. In a very sarcastic, snippy way she replied "And why do you think you need to see a Dr..." It caught me off guard so I explained that I ate some cookies and was having an allergic reaction. I even brought the label I tore off the box of cookie mix. She continued to be very argumentative in helping me for some reason I may never know. Im stand there having an ALLERGIC REACTION and shes getting combative...???????? Being under a great deal of stress I told her that I didnt appreciate it in so many words and maybe she should try to calm patients coming into the ER. As shes finishing registering me she goes in the back for a few minutes while I wait. Now, time to be seen was great. Just a few minutes and they are fast. But this nurse comes out as if shes ready for an argument. Like the girl up front maybe went back to gossip about this patient shes had an argument with. Going back to a bed they start taking my vitals etc. and its obvious at this point the girl went back to tell them all about this argument. Theyre all being very confrontational for no reason. So Im sitting there getting my pulse taken and this nurse goes "Whats that in your pocket?" (Its my wallet in my front pocket, average size.) "Why does that matter?" "It might be a gun or a knife. You need to tell me what it is." At this point Im dumbfounded... How is this even relevent to why Im here...?? Like she asks everybody getting triaged that question. (Im young by the way, early 20s and I do dress in baggy clothes, style choice, but come on are you kidding me.) Im scared at this point that the quality of care Im receiving is being affected by an argument I had with the reception girl over nothing. I promptly took the blood pressure cuff off, told them I was in the wrong place, and left. As the nurse is letting me out of the ER she has the nerve to shout after me in front all the patients and Dr.s "Maybe you do have a gun or a knife!" and tells me "Good luck" in such a demeaning way. Keep in mind this is serious stuff, allergic reactions are not fun and extremely stressful if theyve ever happened to you. This is the WORST experience I have ever had with supposed "medical professionals" and thats not trying to slander them because Im cranky. I would be SCARED to have a loved one or myself being treated at this hospital. I drove myself to Mease Countryside Hospital which is at Curlew & McMullen Booth and had a drastically different experience. Please take this however you want but this hospital is SCARY BAD. Hopefully it was just the staff on shift that night but if its any indication of the hospital as a whole..... Good luck if you ever have to be in this place.

Abusive, malicious and unprofessional nurses outweigh the few kind and knowledge nurses. My partner was a patient here. Horrible abuse, violations of standard of care and patients rights by, and outright lies from, Nurses in the ER and ICU right in front of me. Staff in general were rude and some deliberately cruel; I can only assume a prejudice against his appearance and unemployment status, for they were downright surprised when I told them of his accomplishments. After my complaints were verified by a supervising RN, some improvements were made. Another supervisor and a patient advocate also spoke with me the next morning. One nurse claimed erroneously that I had no right to his medical status and lab reports because a common law wife isnt a legal spouse (the hospital had the legal documents stating that I am his health care proxy and along with his signed directive that I be informed and consulted regarding every procedure or lab result). Once the supervising RNs made clear to staff that "common law wife" is "wife" and yes, I was authorized to, and they were required to, provide status updates, they would not call as requested and when I called, I had go through the whole "check the chart and see you survivors notes" routine before information was released. He was denied the picc the doctor ordered on the first morning, to reduce the number of times his veins were punctured for frequent blood draws. The nurses told us there was no picc team available (the supervising RN said they always have a picc team available). The nurse then snapped, "he doesnt need one." He got the pic on the third day. He was unable to choke down the disgusting hospital food but they didnt volunteer Ensure, I had to ask for it. He had no way to sanitize his hands after using the toilet or bedpan. His throat was dry and he had no way to drink water unless I brought it to him with their permission. They did not clean the day old vomit from his hair and face; I did. The nurses would tell me that he wasnt permitted to have reading material and I would call up the policy for them to review, and after they read it, he was allowed his newspaper and books. They didnt provide hygiene care for him until he was strong enough to shower on his own 4 days later. No wonder hospital infection rate is so high. We received erroneous information about his release and transfer and it wasnt until I said I would call my attorney that staff "remembered" there were actually decisions we could make rather than "you have no choice." Despite repeated requests, the treating physician didnt call me once during the horrific 5 day stay. I would never consent to be treated here and would never permit a loved one to be without a family members observation round the clock. I must reiterate how shocked I am by the harsh insensitivity he as a patient and we as a couple endured. One charge nurse commented to me, hes such a nice man and such an easy patient. I responded in tears and explained what was happening and it was she who got the supervisor.

(since this is the parent company, this review applies here as well) 9 month old son was unusually fussy to a concerning degree, so we went here. He was taken in quickly and saw a doctor. Only test performed were basic vitals (weight, heart rate, temperature). Doctor touched his stomach for 1 minute, talked to us for 5, had us wait 15 minutes or so alone in the room to monitor, and had us leave with a prognosis of probably just gas. It was never mentioned what our co-pay or financial obligations would be, so i assumed insurance would cover such a quick nothingness visit. Two weeks later we get billed $1202.05 from the hospital, and another $587.00 from the doctor. $1800 billed for less than a 30 minute check, with no real tests performed is EXACTLY what is wrong with this crooked business. Because of the bloated charges, my portion was $500. I was later told (too late mind you) that if we had requested service as an uninsured, our total bill would have been less than $200. Ripping off concerned parents to pay for their new facility is a short term solution that will surely end in failure. We will never go back, and I suggest everyone else do the same. Go to an urgent care, not these thieves.
