My parents used to take our dog here when I was young, and it was a pretty decent place back then (late 1990s). Since then, Ive brought my cats here a few times and have consistently been disappointed and irritated by my experience. Everything here from shots to minor procedures is ridiculously and shamelessly overpriced ($80 to euthanize a 12lb cat here, plus an additional $40 to "handle the remains" -- whereas the Lakeland SPCAs medical center will do it for $35 and let you decide whether or not you want to be in the room and whether you want to keep or leave the remains free of charge) and the customer service provided by the disgruntled, disinterested staff is absolutely horrible ($100s difference in quotes and final prices for treatment, extensive waiting times on the phone and in office, receptionists ignoring you, "forgetting you were there," and generally not giving a damn about anything, etc.). The only time I will ever take another living thing here is if there is an emergency and there is no place else to go. Take your pets to the Lakeland SPCAs medical center instead. While a bit of a drive, the facility is charitably nonprofit, reasonably priced, and considerate of your pets well-being.

Our dog died at Southside. Not only were we charged for medical procedures he didnt receive, but the vet listed on his medical records, "Skylar Shieling" is not a vet, but the receptionist. For the past three weeks we have called to find out who the vet was, but no one will tell us. They "take messages" and dont call us back. Two other vets have verified that the medical charts and the bill do not match. This young ladys name is literally handwritten on the medical chart as the relief vet. No idea who treated Frankie, but according to a phone conversation the day he died, they were waiting on the final $175 of the $700 total before they began working on him. We dropped him off at 9am with what started as a $400 quote. After the initial tests, they said they needed to keep him for 3 days which would total $700. At 1:30, they called to ask when wed be paying the final $175 so they could get started. At 2:20pm, he died. At 3:00pm when we arrived to pay, they took the money THEN told us he died. No refund was given, even though he was there less than 6 hours of a quoted 3-day stay. We have a picture of the record that lists "Skylar Shierling RELIEF VET, DVM" We also have the actual record.

The staff is nice but not very thorough. I had my pot belly pig spayed here and when I arrived home, I noticed she had staples. They didnt say anything or provide any paperwork about any special care. Luckily I decided to call their after hours line and they told me I needed to take special care of her including not letting her outside and that I would need to bring her back to have the staples removed in two weeks. Awhile after I had her staples removed, I noticed that she had sutures hanging out. I called again and they recommended that if Im worried that I should bring her in to have them removed. I wasnt told anything about the sutures either. If you are personally familiar with the veterinary care of your animal after a procudure and dont need any guidance, I would recommend this place. If though, you would prefer to have all the information needed to properly care for your animals, I recommend somewhere else. Again, the staff was nice, but as someone who isnt very knowledgeable about veterinary care, I feel it was irresponsible of them to send me on my way with no information after they performed surgery on my animal.

At first when I went here the people were really nice and LOVED my puppy, which I just took her for shots and an ear cleaning. But then a couple months later, the ear infection got 10X worse. She was bleeding all in her ear, scabbing, couldnt sleep, and it was swollen shut. So I took her back, I left her there for a couple hours because I had to go to work, and my boyfriend was going to pick her up later. Well, while I was at work I got a call that she had a lump in her stomach and she needed x rays. I asked them about her AWFUL ear and they said that was a minor issue the lump was serious, which was strange because my dog never is around anything she can eat, and shes a show dog. I told them to proceed with the X-rays. Between my boyfriend and I we spent close to $500 on a "lump"... We never saw the X-rays and after they gave us this concoction and told us to come back the next day to get more. When we went back they told us they didnt have any to come back the next day, we went back the next day and the same thing happened. I will not be going back to south side. Very unhappy.

Ok I know when you read these there always really good or really bad reviews but let me tell you.... I took my Bella here from the day I got her and never had an issue with shots and check ups. She got sick on Friday and I took her on Monday. Dr said my 5lbs dog ate a mouse or something with bones, sent us home with meds to help pass it. Well me and my mom were up ALL night with her vomiting and bleeding from butt. Took her back today they say it parvo, then 2 hours later its something different and they have to do surgery. After over $500 My mom says she is coming to get her for a 2nd opinion and they tell her she cant! She has to be escorted by police to get our dog because I was at work. She could have died because they were clueless and money hungry!! She is currently being treated correctly with a new Dr. DO NOT GO TO THIS DR UNLESS YOU WANT YOU PET TO DIE IN A CRISIS!!! If it is simple shots, then you are good..... Dont be like me and shrug these reviews off, I learned my lesson the hard way!!

Worst vet office ever. If you love your animals and want them properly examined go to a different vet office. My baby apparently has had a skin infection for years now and every year for my dogs check up southside said that she was healthy. They never said anything about her skin and why it was dry. I thought it was cause I live in Florida, no it was an infection. They also pretty much refused to fax over my dogs records to the new office and hung up on me twice. These people are rude up front and can you imagine how they treat your babies when they bring them in the back to be treated. You dont see what goes on back there. If they dont care about you do you think they would care about your babies?

Each time I have come here the wait time has been ridiculous. Today I had an appointment for 10am. 10:15 I asked why I was still waiting. There was no one else there. Apparently the Dr had not arrived yet. The girl behind the desk said it would be about another 25 minutes until he arrived. Seriously? You find it acceptable to make appointments in advance and leave people waiting until its convenient for you? This is not the first time. Last time they kept us in one of the rooms for over 2 hours waiting. I understand things happen but this is very unprofessional, yet your employees act like its business as usual. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
