BEWARE: I had cataract surgery done by Dr. Vassallo and it went terribly bad. He tore the iris in my eye. I went back to his office the next day and reported to him the vision in that eye was extremely bright, like looking at an overexposed photograph. Everything was white. He told me that it could take a month for the eye to settle down. I went back a week later and he examined me and told me again that it would take some time for the eye to get back to normal. Three weeks went by and I decided to see an eye doctor at the VA hospital. I asked if they would look at my eye. They were astounded at what they saw. The iris was indeed torn. The iris was ragged on one side and instead of being round, it was pear shaped. Now I know things can go wrong in surgery but the Vassallo never once told me or admitted there had been an issue with the eye during surgery. Never once.... During my visits with him he tried to make me believe they eye would simply improve over time which is simply not the case. My eye was a mess and I really had nothing but "overexposed" blurry vision in that eye. ONLY after confronting him with my findings did he somewhat admit his botched job in surgery and told me the iris actually came out of my eye. Can you believe that! I didnt even know that was possible. HE NEVER FESSED UP until I found out from another doctor that the eye was damaged. Thats unconscionable and unethical. Apart from not "coming clean" with me about this serious problem they wanted to sign me up right then and there at the office for an appointment to do the other eye in a month. UNBELIEVABLE. By the way, if you have cataract surgery done by him, youll feel like your in a "cattle call" the day of the surgery. This man damaged my eye severely and didnt even choose to admit it to my. Ive gone through 8 months of misery not being able to see worth a darn. A very skilled and competent doctor from Jacksonville has now done more surgery on the eye and has given me my sight back, no thanks to Vassallo.

Doctor Vassallo is great. Not only is he a great doctor, but helps you to relax and understand everything that is going on. After my surgery I am having some trouble with dry eyes and the doctor and staff are doing everything they can to help me get it taken care of. But speaking of staff, Ashley is great and on top of everything. Katie is wonderful, she is so knowledgeable and honest with you. I really hope the staff never changes. I have been to other doctors offices and the staff will lie or just tell you anything to get you in to do whatever. I recommend Doctor Vassallo to everyone
