AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! This was the worst experience I have ever had with any business. I walked out feeling like I had been deceived and robbed and taken advantage of. I have never written an online review before, but I think other people need to know when a place is this dishonest. Im generally a very trusting person, but I made a big mistake trusting Dr. Grant. I was new in town and picked Dr. Grants office because it was the closest dental office to my apartment that was listed on my insurance website. I thought, "oh its located in Hyde Park, how bad could it really be?" For some background: Im in my late 20s and have only ever had one cavity in my life. And most dentists are amazed at how clean my teeth are. My dentist growing up was a family friend and gave me cleanings whenever I needed them, and Im a bit OCD when it comes to brushing and usually do it during the day at work, in the morning, and at night. After a cleaning and some X-rays at Dr. Grants, I was told that I had 4-5 cavities and also needed sealants and a bunch of other dental procedures. They also suggested invisalign, which is a joke because I have perfectly straight teeth and had a really well respected orthodontist as a teenager. Dr. Grant staff used fancy dental terminology to try and scare me, and made it sound really serious and urgent that I get everything fixed... Then they presented me with a bill for around $2,000 out of pocket, AFTER insurance, for the work I "needed." That was a huge red flag, as Ive got a great company dental PPO insurance plan that usually covers almost all of my dental bills. I was pretty naive for falling for her next scam. The hygienist told me that I needed a "special" prescription-grade mouthwash to help fight these cavities off while I waited to get my fillings. I was gullible enough to fall for this scam and paid $30 for a bottle of something that fights cavities about as well as a bottle of water. After my appointment, I tried to request my X-rays from Dr. Grant so that I could get a second opinion on all of these thousands of dollars worth of serious dental issues. I was in the middle of buying my first home, and did not have the cash for these charges. I called her office repeatedly, only to be ducked by her receptionist and have my requests ignored. I was also told it was a $25 "processing fee" to get my X-rays, but they eventually waived the fee for making me wait about a month for the files. Luckily my girlfriend is almost finished with dental hygiene school and can read X-rays and reviewed everything for me. Shes worked in dental offices for the past 7-8 years and was able to cut through most of the BS. She said it looked like I might have one small cavity, but there was no way I had more than one. Another thing also happened with Dr. Grant a few months later. I was billed for $57 from my insurance company for a "fluoride treatment" that I never authorized AND a cancer screening that never happened. My insurance company does not pay for fluoride for people over 15 years old, which makes sense, and everyone (especially a D.M.D) should know that fluoride is only effective for kids under 15... Dr. Grants office must have applied fluoride to my teeth during my cleaning without asking me and then billed my insurance company. They also billed them for a cancer screening that never happened. I recently saw a new dentist nearby, Dr. Cannariato, and I would definitely recommend him. His hygienist cleaned my teeth and took 18 X-rays and examined them, and they came to the SAME conclusion as my girlfriend, one small cavity. I didnt even need sealants, invisalign, fluoride, or any special mouthwash. The total cost for my filling, after insurance, was $40. Dr. Grant tried to rip me off for $1900+ and it is by far the worst experience I have ever had in dealing with any company in my entire life. DO NOT SET FOOT INTO THIS CHOP SHOP!!

We all know that trip to the dentist is usually not on the top of anyones list to do if they have the choice, but we also should know that it is more than necessary. Healthy teeth and gums, are quite simply, very important. Eating, speaking clearly, smiling...like to do these things? Well, they do require some maintenance and care. Think about it. You dont drive your car year after year, without regular tune ups, and then from time to time, some more maintenance and major repairs. Turns out, our mouths have a similar story. I have been a patient of Dr. Grants for over 15 years now. I have had routine cleanings, minor work and when necessary, major work done with her and her great staff. Just today, several procedures in one appointment (which, by the way, they fit me in as an emergency). At each visit, Dr. Grant reviews my overall dental health and addresses what is necessary, what may be necessary in the future and what has happened since my last visit. Recently, I have been experiencing some issues due to the fact that my childhood orthodontia work has significantly shifted over time. Dr. Grant saw this coming for quite a while and had been advising me what to expect...and she was right on target. With my teeth shifting and my tendency for grinding (which apparently is extremely common with people today...stress anyone?!), I have incurred damage to previously healthy teeth, crowns and now a significant chip to a front tooth (not cute). The remedy for this situation is to fix the problem so further damage does continue to occur. This remedy will require some more major work (and with that a more major bill), but UN-like my car, if I want to keep running, I cant trade my teeth in for the new model (well I guess I can if I like the idea of dentures). Bottom line is that if you do not value your teeth and dental health, you cannot value the work of your dental professionals. I personally do value both, especially Dr. Grant and her staff! Plus, I love the way that my teeth look and often get compliments on Dr. Grants work - that I happily take credit for :-)

A year and a half ago our family found it necessary to switch dentists due to our insurance. We selected Dr. Christine Grant on Swann Avenue. Both my daughters and I had an exam and initial cleanings from her. She was definitely more costly than our prior dentist but we felt that we would be getting "our moneys worth" from her. My oldest was the first to have major work done that included a crown and filling. When I opted to get other quotes for my dental needs we discovered Dr. Francisco. After meeting him and his staff, I decided to have Dr. Francisco provide our dental needs. When my oldest daughter came home (about a year after the work that was done by Dr. Grant) it was discovered by Dr. Francisco that Dr. Grant did not seat her crown properly which resulted in decay at the base of the crown and underneath the crown. In addition, Dr. Grant failed to remove all the decay before filling her tooth and you could actually see the decay permeating through the filling. Dr. Francisco had to redo everything that was done and that we already paid for by Dr. Grant. The insurance company wouldnt cover it a second time since it was under 36 months. Dr. Francisco suggested we contact Dr. Grant so that she might pay our bill to have her work redone. He said that were he in Dr. Grants position, he wouldnt hesitate to compensate a patient for work that was not up to par. Armed with pictures and xrays I approached Dr. Grant to request that she pay what we owed to have her work redone. She even spoke with Dr. Francisco; however, her response via certified letter was that she would not be held financially nor professionally responsible. She stated that this decay resulted in Courtney not having her teeth cleaned in the last year and a half. How does a teeth cleaning help one with removing decay under a crown and filling especially when Dr. Francisco said that the work was not done properly? I would never recommend Dr. Grant; not because she doesnt do good work, but because she doesnt accept responsibility for her work.
