On January 27th 2014 my dog whelped 11 puppies. During the whelping process she retained 6 placentas. This could potentially be deadly. I spoke with my mentor and was recommended to immediately get a dose of Oxytocin in her, which is used for this issue, it causes the dog to have a contraction to push anything remaining inside her. I could not get in touch with my regular Dr. so around 3pm on the 27th I called Lake City Animal Hospital. I told the receptionist the situation and that I needed a shot of Oxytocin. I was told to come right in, no need for an appointment. So I rushed to the clinic with my girl. Once I arrived I filled out the necessary paperwork, and to my surprise the receptionist came out and told me that and I quote, "Umm We dont actually have Oxytocin" so they sent me back to speak with the Vet (Toby G. Carmichael, DVM) So He comes in the room and proceeds to tell me that my girl will be fine, and that Oxytocin is only used in Horses, it is no longer needed for Dogs. (NOT TRUE) He proceeded to tell me that he has over 21 years experience and that she will be just fine. Not to worry. So I left and took her home thinking that I was over reacting and that she would be fine. I was to follow up with my vet the next day. Well less than 8 hours later I wake and my girl cannot move, SHE WAS SO WEAK AND COULD BARELY LIFT HER HEAD. Sure enough she had develop Mertritis. (Metritis is the medical term used to describe inflammation of the uterus. This uterine disease is similar to pyometra but it has some differences. Unlike pyometra, metritis is most often a bacterial uterine infection that develops in the immediate post partum (after giving birth) period and occasionally after abortion or breeding. It is most often associated with retained fetuses or placentas. What to Watch For Fever Dehydration Depression Decreased appetite Vomiting Diarrhea Fast heart rate Vulvar discharge) She was so weak she was laying on 2 puppies and could not move, THEY WERE DEAD...AND I WAS ABOUT TO LOSE MY GIRL TOO. So I rushed her and 9 puppies to the ER on Tuesday Morning, spent every penny I had to get her stable then transferred her and 9 puppies to my Vet in Sandy Springs, where we ended up stuck there for 38 hours due to the Ice Storm. Every one is Doing well now. Just felt that people need to know about this incident before choosing to come to Lake City Animal Clinic

Dr. Carmichael treated my dog Daisy terribly. He drug her down the hallway, screamed at me to shut the door, and told us only half of what he was going to do to our dog. He put her under anesthesia without our knowledge. He also did 6 biopsies all over her body when we were only told she was going to have 1. After the biopsies were done he sent her home without any pain medicine, only a antibiotic. We were supposed to get results to see if she had cancer in 3-5 days and they said they would call us, which they did not do, after 5 days had passed we had to call them to get the results. We were told she did not have cancer but they wanted to do a deeper biopsy to rule out all chances of cancer, even tho to begin with Dr. Carmichael said that the first biopsy would rule out all chances of cancer. Before we did the Biopsy we also had blood work done where her red blood cell count was a little high but nothing that we should have been worried about, and her white blood cell count was fine. Daisys wounds from the biopsies were terribly infected because they did not tell us to clean them. When we went to go get the tubes to "drain" the infection is when we were NOT told that she was going to be put under anesthesia. Our beautiful loving baby girl Daisy passed away last Tuesday because of Dr. Carmichaels miss treatment. We also found out that the same vet gave surgery on a dog thinking that it had something in its stomach and come to find out it had nothing in it! I also found out that another dog passed away from being dehydrated at this vet. Please never take your animals here. Dr. Carmichael has no bedside manners and also had no sympathy for the passing of our Daisy.

I have never been so pissed and disappointed at a vet. If I could give them negative stars I would. I asked for an orthopedic surgeon after my dog needed a surgery on her rear leg and they told me dr. Carmichael and that they could do the surgery here. Only to find out 2 weeks after surgery this said Dr is not a specialist in orthopedics but just a GENERAL surgeon. Not only that, I wrote down what medications she was on from the emergency vet prior to her surgery. They prescribed her another medication and told me to give it to her that night. This medication reacted with her previous and perforated her stomach(usually needs a 5 day wash out period and it was only 72 hours) ... after spending $15K in emergency surgery I will never step into this place again. I agree that the staff was friendly but I would never trust them with my babies again. I almost lost my best friend . Dont go here if you would like to keep your animals alive and safe!!!

This is not a bad vet but it certainly could be better. It seems like they have so many clients that they cannot give each animal the individual time and care that they need. At one visit they were so busy they forgot to do the urinalysis they were supposed to do on my cat so I had to come back in and pay for another appointment. I have never been to an appointment that didnt take more than an hour and a half, even for a follow up. It always takes about 20-30 min. to check out as well. The front desk staff will say the doctor will call but in reality you have to call 2 or 3 times to get any answers. This is not only unprofessional but very nerve wracking when you have a sick pet. I have also found some of the front desk staff are very rude on many occasions. Needless to say, when I finally do get these latest rounds of test results back I will be taking them and my pets to another vet.

Our beloved Maple passed on 4/30/15. She was cared for with the most loving attention you could imagine by all the staff at Lake City Animal Hospital. She (and we her parents) spent numerous days in extreme distress and everyone there was generous with their time and love for all. We tried treatments that made sense for Maples age and condition and pretty much let the doctors guide us with what care they felt would give Maple the best chance to pull through as well as quality of life. When it was determined they could not do any more for Maple we all let her go. We feel this is an extraordinary hospital with excellent cared and bed side manor. The total dollars spent was well below what we had expected with the amount of care she received. My parting words to them was it might be a few years but we will be back...
