TLDR: Carmen, Karen, Cas, and Dr. Pate have been exemplary, extremely gentle, helpful and beyond professional with me - a special needs patient. I hope we never move from here because this is the first dental office where Ive actually felt comfortable. Office staff have been more than welcoming and helpful. No complaints! My work was expensive but I also had a lot of complex work done. No complaints - I got what I paid for. Let me preface this review with a synopsis of my dental issues: 1. somewhere over time and many dental visits in the past (to many different dentists in my lifetime not Athens Family - we had just moved here) I had developed a gag reflex from hell. This creates Fear. Not little f fear...but big F fear. This had a direct impact on my dentition over the last 10 years. 2. I grind my teeth. This lead to a bevy of broken molars at first, then the more inward teeth started taking the brunt of the damage. This affected my ability to chew, to smile unhindered (which is really quite a drag! You cant be you!) and provided a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Yum. What I needed: I figured I was denture bound but the thought of putting two plates in my mouth in contact with my ticklish, gaggy palate just made me cringe! Had to do something, though. I started hearing about sedation dentistry - right here, this became search criteria number one for me because I cannot face complex work without it. Based on reviews available back in October of 2013 I selected Athens Family Dental. I went in for my first appointment in December of 2013 and just said - do what ya can before my insurance ends! Must use it all! Well, we did. It was determined that an average dentist visit was not in my future since I needed so much restorative work. I was assigned THE most AWESOME team ever. Carmen, Karen and Dr. Pate. They formulated a plan for three implants, two bridges, several crowns and sedation and came in with a final figure which actually proved to be below what we prepaid. Carmen and Karen ran the bedside from a sedation standpoint and did a great job with IV insertion - and I would know. I was a Registered Nurse. ( I cant speak to the rest - I was blessedly out!) FOLLOW UP: Most of my work was done in 2014. 2015 represents the first year for maintenance - aka cleanings and a review of how the work has turned out. Cas (sp?) is the most wonderful hygienist experience Ive ever had. Very respectful and gentle with the gag producing areas. Hes my new hero. The work itself? Holding up beautifully. No signs of infection, no pain, no tooth instability or gum irritability. I am back to smiling like I was a kid again and actually eating an apple the way God intended - Raw and off the core!

Athens Family Dental did some work for me a few years ago. When they took a tooth out, they left bone fragments which later surfaced and caused me pain. They did not ensure that I had the antibiotics needed (because I have a metal prosthesis in my body) as required by normal medical practices (to ensure no infection enters my blood stream and causes a prosthesis rejection.) They did not give me adequate information. When I complained I was treated like a pariah, as if the problems they caused were my fault. I am disabled, and they are not trained in the ADA to deal with disabled patients. In all, I wish I had never allowed them to touch my mouth. I was very dissatisfied. At the time, they were the only provider in town that took my insurance so I didnt have a choice, but I will drive to Atlanta before I have them touch me again. I am aware that many people are very happy with this dentist. But you have to ask yourself -- what is their benchmark, what are they comparing this dentist to? I expect professional service, a full explanation of all procedures and charges and appropriate medical care. This dental practice is not capable of those three things.

Terrible customer service.I took a day off of work because My kids had an appointment at 12:30 pm ,one of them was seen but not the other one because one of the office staff member called Marisela lied to me about not receiving my sons record from his former dentist although it was sent to them (i called the former dentist and i was given the time it was sent).i sat there until 2pm and not one of the workers came to ask me what i was waiting for ,they walked back and forth, even looked at us and never said anything.i had to get up and ask them if someone was going to help us, that is when Marisela started looking for the email and told me she assumed i was going to leave because they did not get the record so i asked her why she did not tell me an hour ago that she had not received it so i could call back to have it e-mailed again. She said well it takes a little while for them to sent that (although she had given me the number to call and had told me to ask that they sent it now)It is one thing to tell people you forgot to do your work and it is another thing to lie to people.horrible customer service guys .i am looking for another dentist

Customer service is awful...dentists are great. I was a patient of theirs since the age of 15. I needed some fillings and my wisdom teeth removed. Scheduling was a nightmare since they were unwilling to help me with my work or school schedule. They then misquoted me several times on what the cost of my dental work. I paid in advance and after was told my insurance wouldnt cover it. Its taken weeks and constant calls (half of which were never returned) in order to get my money back. Theyre still holding on to $100 for a reason they cant explain. Brenda, the person who has spoken to me, has been rude and condescending. When I asked her for an explanation she laughed and told me the information was online and to "get on the same page" as my husband whom they had already spoken to. Needless to say, after I receive my final refund I hope to never have any business with Athens Family Dental again. UPDATE: Brenda texted me at my personal cell phone number on a Sunday asking me delete my review. Highly unprofessional!!

HORRIBLE!!!! Went in for a wisdom tooth removal and Dr. Miller butchered me. Knowing it was a difficult extraction is one thing.... but not only did he break part of the tooth off in front of it he then sewed my gums to my cheek. When I called the office to tell them this they said in no way would he do that. Welllll then the stitches broke and were left hanging in my cheek leaving me with a dry socket. His assistant (who couldnt keep the look of horror from her face as Dr. Miller tore into me) removed the stitches and quit shortly after. I recently called to see if they would fix the damage caused by the extraction and the office couldnt even tell from my X-rays what side was worked on.... and they refused to repair what damage was done. RUN DONT WALK!!!! If you do go here you better hope you catch Miller on a good day! I cannot give negative stars to this encounter... just consider yourself forewarned by reading this!!!
