I really wanted to be a patient here. Here is my story. I called Dermatology & Aesthetics of Wicker Park (DAWP) in December 2013 or early January 2014 to schedule a skin check for a particularly worrisome discoloration on my forehead. My fiance, an ER resident, said I should get it looked at as a small bump had developed on it. After leaving a voicemail during business hours I waited a few days before I heard back from them. I explained my situation in detail, but the receptionist seemed more concerned about whether I had health insurance or not. I do. The earliest they could "fit me in" was sometime in May - nearly five to six months out. The receptionist said I would probably be able to get in earlier if I was available on short notice - which I am. I live less than a minute walk from their offices (literally a minute, not figuratively). Time passed, the discoloration on my forehead remained, but the troubling texture resolved itself. I never heard from DAWP. I wondered sometimes if I would ever get a call, as discussed, to walk over in a hurry and slide in before sometime in May. I never did. May comes - I never thought I would not have heard from DAWP, but I have not. Then, while at a convention for work in Las Vegas I get a call, it is DAWP! I am late for my appointment! What appointment? The one that had zero follow up for five to six months? No reminders. No communication. The appointment that was perfunctory since they should be able to get me in well before that? Fortunately in the interim my discoloration did not metastasize and kill me. The one way a dermatologist can actually save lives...and they are not interested in doing it in a timely manner. It gets better. Since I neglected to show up they want to charge me $25 dollars for a no show fee. The money is trivial, but on principle I dislike this. Before continuing, I hand delivered my payment today, the day I received the invoice in the mail. I pay on time, in full, even if I disagree. I work as a commercial real estate broker. I have spent days, even weeks, preparing materials and presentations for customers who ultimately pay and do nothing. If i wanted a fee up front I would tell them clearly what that fee would be. They could then accept or decline that fee. When I hand delivered my payment the offices of DAWP were busy and bustling. I do not think they need me as a customer and I do not think they cared about my health.

I had a terrible experience with this Dermatologist. I decided to go at the recommendation of a friend to see Dr. Karen Horn. Dr. Horn only works during normal business hours on which ever days she is in so I had to take off personal time in order to see her. When I arrived they would not allow me to have the appointment without allowing them to keep a credit card on file. I have never had a Doctors office demand to keep a card on file and now believe that they are much more concerned with billing than service. They also had me schedule a follow up appointment and informed me that they would charge my credit card if I did not give proper notice to cancel. When I finally met Dr. Horn she looked at my skin for maybe 10-15 seconds before coming up with some generic skin care routine. She was cold and impersonal and probably spent a total of 10 minutes with me despite the fact that the entire appointment probably lasted an hour and a half between waiting in the waiting room and meeting the associate. I was particularly disappointed in this because I had used my time off of work in order to see her specifically and she hardly gave me any notice or time. After reading these other reviews I feel confident that I dont need to return. Oh - and on top of that my skin looks exactly the same despite following her regime for 3 months.

Bad experience, everything is kind of shady, all oriented to charge you and keep you trapped on their ecosystem. First of all, they ask you to file a Credit Card in advance so they can charge you straight. (!!!!!!) After I saw the doctor, he prescribed a cream. When I went to ask for the prescription, they said this cream can only be acquired in their own store. I spoke with 3 persons and one first said was over the counter, another said that was actually a prescription cream, and when I asked the prescription, the 3rd person appeared, they denied give me a prescription and tried to explain me this cream is so exclusive, rare secret and unique I wont find it elsewhere (?!) and the best thing I could do is buy with them because if not could be to expensive something similar on a pharmacy. (!!) I cancelled my return, even though the Doctor and the Nurse were very nice. But their "system" and their way to handle things gives me no trust at all.

I have never been more disappointed in a professional firm with regard to patient response and follow up over the phone. On numerous occasions, the staff would pick up the line, put me on hold and eventually Id get sent to voice mail. On several occasions, they also did not call me back during the stated service level timeframe (24 hours). They did not communicate the prescription details to me adequately and didnt respond at all when I asked questions about the medications. While the one doctor Ive been able to see in last 3 months was great (Dr. Arch), from an administrative and logistics perspective, Wicker Park Dermatology is failing, big time.

While Eric is helpful, I have some criticisms of this place! They bill that card so be aware. Its done without notice. And, calling them is pointless. Furthermore, a delay calling prescriptions in. Not healthy. Moreover, seems more focused on getting you in and out than clear communication and specific help. Id have fewer questions if I had been given more than five minutes. Four, valet parking. Really? Given the cost of the visit they should absorb this. The building demonstrates where the overhead goes and it isnt into improved patient service. Inform customers more clearly about billing. Answer the phone! Call in prescriptions!

Ive been seeing Dr Meyer Horn for years. Hes incredibly smart, easy to talk to you, very quick at accurately assessing a problem, responds to email, and is a profoundly competent practitioner. Im also in the medical profession, have referred many patients to him, and cannot speak more highly of his practice and bedside manner. Highly recommend for anyone whos interested in a very skilled dermatologist and surgeon who leaves minimal, if any scarring, for skin lesion removal and takes the time to consider patient concerns and well-being.

UPDATE: I have been seeing Dr. Todd Johnson here for a few years and he is the absolute best! Very thorough and professional and just a really nice guy. He does fabulous Botox! Kathy was a real gem to work with too! I have always had great experiences at this practice and just saw them for the first time at their new location (leave yourself a few extra minutes to get there and find it). I saw Dr. Johnson for my most recent annual check. He is very personable and thorough. Great experience and I would highly recommend him!
