I only have internal beefs with them. The clinic as a whole is awesome, and they do excellent work. The People there actually care about you as a patient. My internal beefs in their way of handling patients outside the clinic. For instance, their practices and policies strain the HIPAA laws. They make you call in a universal number, and an unlicensed medical answering team receives your calls, in which they screen your call for emergency values. So, they question your reasons to speak to your doctor or nurse, which to me is none of their business, and then they get to evaluate how urgent the matter is. Just the point of telling someone my personal issues to me is degrading, and humiliating. To me, who is she/he to decide if I should speak to the medical staff or not. Then, I never, never, ever get to speak to my actual doctor. Well, to be honest, I dont even know who my actual doctor is. The one I have been allowed to call "Doctor" is just an LPN. Although she is good at what she does, she is still NOT a Doctor. I should have been corrected a long time ago. None the less, I NEVER can get her on the phone, and shes the one who is treating me, not the Doctor. That is misleading. When I do call to speak to the nurse, I always get somebody who doesnt even know my case. Then I have to explain years of health issues to her, just to bring her to the present so she can give me correct advice. There it is again, the HIPAA laws not even honored. Now, I do however think the services they provide are wonderful, and yes I do feel they work hard to help those in need. I do respect this. But, in truth, just because you provide something for the needy, doesnt give you the right to step all over their civil rights, break the law, and show disregard to someones privacy. The only reason I havent taken this up with my attorney is simply because I dont want to screw it up for other people who need this clinic. But rightfully, they should be sued over it, but I wont. Furthermore, every person has a right to speak to their actual doctor in charge. I cant even tell you who mine is. Since you dont allow doctor patient contact, then at leased the LPN treating you should call you back when you need to speak with her/him. Finally, the appointment management really stinks. I understand why they dont allow people to schedule appointments weeks ahead, but is still flawed. Some people cant make spontaneous appointments. Some people have to plan for them. For some people it is easier to schedule them, and plan their life around them, especially if they have ongoing managements like diabetes that require regular appointments. Some people have memory problems that makes them forget to schedule, so having the appointments already there, all they need is the reminder call. I am truly hoping the Board of Helping Hands sees this and takes this seriously. My health is depending on it.

First off I want to start off by saying Ive been coming to this clinic since 15 years. It is a great place. I live in Cicero and still take the drive all the way out there. There is a reason to me only giving them 2 stars. Their have been far too many changes and not all have been for the best. The scheduling system is just ridiculous. Its like pulling teeth. I have 3 children ranging from 10 yrs old to 3 years old and I pretty much have to go back 3 different times for my kids to be seen. Scheduling them all together is a big NO NO. Not sure if its the doctors choice or the schedulers but the fact of the matter is that they dont care, they will not budge or compromise. You can only schedule two kids at a time but they must be in the same age range if not youre put of luck if there is a 15 minute difference in time. Then when they were finally able to find an appointment to accommodate my children (two separate date) she tells me there is an appointment available but I will have to call back tomorrow to schedule it. I literally laughed because of how stupid I thought this was. Its a great clinic but they need to seriously fix the scheduling issue. I dont feel its a fair system. Some of us work and cant constantly take off work to accommodate their schedule. they should be able to accommodate ours. Its not like I was asking for a ridiculous time frame. I was definitely willing to compromise but they would not. Their referral department isn;t any better either there have been times were Ive called numerous times to get copies of documents (referrals, wic forms, test results etc) they have 24 hours to contact you and they never did until I would practically fill their voicemail with messages.

I found this place through my insurance and I never had more trouble being rejected from seeing a doctor than I did with this office. They refused to see me without my PCP being listed Dr. Mayock on my insurance card, despite my insurance company saying they are under contract to see me while the information is being updated. They also refused to take a reference number from my own insurance company when they called to talk to them about Dr. Mayock being my PCP. After a rushed change, I finally got my information updated to show him as my PCP, but when I called to make an appointment, they said that Dr. Mayock and all of his residents are booked for the next two weeks, and I can call after those two weeks to see if they have anything available--but no guarantees; ANY OF THIS would have been useful information for me to find a different physician before jumping through hoops to get Dr. Mayock as my PCP--DO NOT WORK WITH THIS OFFICE.

Ive been trying to set up an appointment to see a doctor for a while now... each time theyve told me to "call back Thursday for an appointment at the end of next month..." uh.. sure let me put this shoulder joint pain on hold till then. Its great to know youve just opened 2 new offices and still cant take new patients. Called st mary family center and they took me in the same day. X rays and referrals the next day.

My daughter was in the emergency room and was told to follow up with her primary care provider. When I called to make a follow up appointment they told me I had to call the same day to make it. I called today, and then I was told she couldnt have a same day appointment because she wasnt sick! This is rediculous!! Their appointment system is a JOKE!!
