I really wish I could give Cooley 0 stars, or even negative stars. Unfortunately neither is an option. My cat was recovering from severe Anemia. I had spent tons of time and money with the emergency shelter on blood transfusions to keep him alive. I brought him back to Cooley, my normal vet, for followups after that to make sure he stayed healthy. Instead they made it much worse. They sat on his test results for 10 days before modifying his medication accordingly or notifying me that they had the results of the blood tests the emergency clinic ran. After 3 weeks of my cat vomiting immediately after eating Cooley is sitting there scratching their head wondering why. I consulted Highland Animal Hospital and the doctors there knew immediately what was wrong with my cat. Although I cant prove it, the negligence on Cooleys part not paying attention to the test results and not being cautious of the medication they were having me administer and cognisant of the developments in my cats health they caused , or at least FAILED to prevent the development of an esophogeal stricture in my poor sweet cat. Here I am with a cat that made it through an epic battle with severe Anemia and he cant eat because Cooley SCREWED UP!!!!! DON"T GO TO COOLEY. Dr Cooley doesnt care about your pets and the entire practice is unorganized and is ONLY a business. It blows my mind to think that someone could go into the field of veterinary medicine and care so little about their patients... Because of Cooleys negligence I need to spend about $2,000 to keep my cat from starving to death. Thanks for nothing Cooley Animal Clinic. ... I feel like I must mention that I do like Dr Barenie and I think it is unfortunate that she is associated with such a ridiculously crappy, unorganized, money hungry practice. Unfortunately I cant budge from one star because the rest of the "suck" at Cooley far overshadows Dr Barenie.

Be weary about pricing at this place! We went to Dr. Cooleys office for a regular visit. They looked at my dogs teeth (which she had problems with in the past), and he said she probably should get teeth cleaned. He said since we were already getting a heartworm test, we might as well get bloodwork for teeth cleaning. Then he said, she didnt have to get the distemper shot, we could just do the blood test to test antibodies. All of these things he said we "might as well" do were things that added up to $293! When I went to check out I was told the cost. I asked what the charges were for. The bloodwork for the cleaning (that was really not explained) was $121 alone. So we ended up paying over $200 for NOT A SINGLE VACCINATION. Basically we left with nothing. Also, I then asked for an estimate for the teeth cleaning: $491!!! This does not even include if any teeth need to be pulled. We have had my dogs teeth pulled and cleaned in the past in the Indianapolis area. The cost was around $500...but that included 11 teeth being pulled. If these were their costs, they shouldve said something upfront rather than casually addin them to the services without mention of any type of cost. I feel like we were tricked. I am irrate about walking out of their office spending over $200 with virtually nothing done. Be weary of unnecessary tests and overpriced services. I would steer clear of this place.

Dr. Cooley & his staff are wonderful! We have been going there for quite some time now & have no complaints. Dr. Cooley is very knowledgeable, and goes above & beyond for the animals he treats. The staff is always pleasant & will make you feel welcome. One of our dogs is older, and Cooley Animal Clinic is the reason she is still with us. I noticed some people complaining about the price. To that point, prior to Dr Coolie we were visiting a local vet near Whiting. His diagnostic approach was very limited and old school. His diagnosis of our Cocker Spaniels constant coughing was that "She is old, you know how some old people couch, its the same thing." We later went to Dr Coolie who drew blood, ran tests, sent specimens to Northwest Indiana University. Our dog was diagnosed with a chronic illness, treatable with medications. With the new diagnosis and medications, our old girl was running around like a puppy again. You cannot put a price on the network of specialist available through Dr Coolies services. Would you prefer to use the Dr who makes assumptions, or the Dr who uses the latest in science & technology? Science cost money and you get what you pay for. Cooley Animal Clinic is amazing! We have a decent amount of experience with Cooley, as weve taken three of our pets there multiple times, and they seemed to be competent with the basics (checkups, shots, etc...) It wasnt until one of our cats actually got sick and desperately needed good veterinary care that we realized Cooley is a joke. Dr. Barneie was nice and pretty good with our dogs, but Dr. Cooley is just a jerk, and no one in this clinic seems to know anything about cats. Dr. Cooley is rude, condescending towards customers as well as his own staff, and doesnt seem to care about the animals at all. They misdiagnosed our cat multiple times and gave it medicine that made him worse. We decided to get a second opinion at another vet and they were able to diagnose him correctly right away, even telling us that the problem was "textbook." We have since picked up all of our animals records and have transferred them to Highland Animal Hospital and are much happier there! OH, and Cooley had the audacity to charge us $15 for each animal record we asked for from them. Good riddance.

Weve always received quality care for all of the pets weve taken there over the years, but sometimes you need to tell them youre not going to pay for all of the tests they want to run. Theyre thinking of your pets health, not you wallet. I currently have a 15 year old dog whos in arthritic pain. We got her on some meds to handle the pain and if they cause long term harm, were not concerned, because were at the point were we know were just keeping her comfortable until its her time. But often, he wants to run tests for things that were not going to fix if theyre found. Ive never thought they were trying to bilk us needlessly, and Ive never felt like they didnt care. I just think they confuse my love of my dog with my willingness to spend anything to buy her one more month. Once you learn to draw a firm line in the sand about how much youre willing to spend, theyre quite reasonable and qualified. Theyve even worked with us to find cheaper alternatives to medicines and treatments, but you need to ask them about it.

We took our normal healthy Hannah there last year about a tumor on her belly. Bloodwork , biopsy and $ 500 later we were told it could be just a false pregnancy and were given antibiotics told us to just monitor it over the next few weeks. Fast forward three weeks later now its bigger and shes not eating! Another $500 later for the same test shows that its cancer and she needs surgery but now her blood isnt clotting! I took her to a specialist in the city and he gave us the grim news it was cancer and had spread and she would probably only survive another six months even with the evasive surgery. Wasted money but more importantly precious TIME! My daughter was so heart broken when we had to out her down. Will NEVER take any of my fur babies there again!
