I have been a customer of the Coralville Animal Clinic for around 20 years with 7 dogs and 1 cat during that time. Dr. Gene is a great vet and took very good care of my pets. When this clinic changed ownership, I began to notice changes. The most noticeable was increasing prices. I also picked up on a change of atmosphere in the clinic. I got the impression, both from the physical condition of the clinic and offhanded comments made by some of the staff, that the new management was failing. I was concerned, but continued giving my business to the clinic. I was shocked when Dr. Gene was let go. I understand that there has been a complete turnover in staff now. While I dont know exactly why it happened, through my discussions with former staff, the new owner was simply intolerable to work with. Ive been told that her primary concern is money and not the well being of the animals she treats. This is second hand information, but it comes from people I have trusted for many years, so I took it seriously. I have transitioned my four dogs to another clinic and feel confident this was the right decision. I have also been informed that Dr. Frank is enforcing a non compete agreement with Dr. Gene, even to the point of preventing him working at another clinic that is 13 miles away (the agreement states 15 miles). This, and other examples, point to the owners petty and vindictive character and this is not the sort of person I would want caring for my pets. I also find it interesting that of the 28 reviews here (before submitting mine), collected over 7 years, half of them are reviews submitted very recently, all within a few week time frame. Dr. Frank is obviously recruiting friends, and past associates, some who are not even customers, to artificially bolster her rating. This is another sad example of how this clinic operates. If you like a poorly managed, over priced clinic, that has recently lost two of the best vets in the area. A clinic that shows evidence of deceptive manipulation of their ratings, this is the place for you. If not, there are plenty of reasonably priced, well run clinics in the area to choose from.

I must expand my comments related to the current owner of this clinic. Not only did she have nothing better to do than firing the best vet in the clinic, but she has compounded her stupid narcissistic action with malice. It is not possible to grasp how a person could fire an outstanding vet for personal reasons, and then in all seriousness seek to enforce a non-compete clause, as she is doing! She is depriving this man of his livelihood and insisting that he not practice anywhere within a 15 mile radius. Anyone capable of such hateful actions against a human being surely cant be trusted with animals! I used to love this clinic when it was owned by Dr. Cowles, and Gene Szymkoviak was working there. They were both the most caring, dedicated, brilliant vets who loved their (our) animals and wouldnt rest until they had a solution if one was needed. Alas, Cowles sold to Dr. Frank, and everything went down-hill (though they hired some lovely tech staff who complemented the wonderful staff already there.) But not only did they no longer stock medicines that we needed regularly for out animals, but the last straw happened when, a few days ago, overnight, Frank fired Gene--FOR TOTALLY FRIVOLOUS REASONS!!!! Absurd! Nothing but narcissistic jealousy behind that--I guess she couldnt stand that we loved Gene! Im out of there--I will never return! He was the reason I stayed. I think she should be ashamed!

We have been taking our Lab to Coralville Animal Clinic since we brought him home over a year ago. We have never been anything but impressed with the staff and the vets. We have seen Dr. Dennis and Dr. Gene. Both are terrific at explaining the course of care and answering any questions. Recently, our dog got cut up working in a pond. We called and were seen the same day. The doc could have put in stitches and charged us for surgical services. Instead he cleaned the wounds nicely and thought they should heal on their own which they have. For antibiotics, the office let us go to the local pharmacy and pay for the $4 generic version. I would recommend Coralville Animal Clinic to anyone with a new pet or looking to try a different vet office.

We take our two cats to Dr. Bies at Coralville Animal Clinic and have received nothing but professional care. Everyone there from the front office to the vet tech and doctors have been very friendly. We have been to other vets in the area and did not feel that the cost of care here was out of line. We hope we never have something drastic happen to our cats, but if it did, we would not hesitate to contact the clinic and Dr. Bies for help. I would definitely recommend them to someone looking for a reasonable, caring environment for an animal family member!

I am so thankful for Dr. Franks knowledge and skills as a veterinarian. As far as I am concerned she saved my dog Leo from certain death. He had been up all night with vomiting and diarrhea, he was so dehydrated when I got him to the clinic his blood work wouldnt even run on the machines! It took 2 hours of IV fluids to even be able to get results. She quickly determined what was needed for him and with in days he walked out of the clinic on his own! I love Dr Frank and would recommend her to anyone looking for a good veterinarian!

My family has been going to the Coralville Animal Clinic for over 25 years. Dr Puffer and Dr Cowles always took great care of us. Then Dr Gene took great care of us. Now this new lady comes in fires Dr Gene and charges an arm and a leg for services which didnt cost as much before. New services are recommended that were never recommended before. Seems this new lady just wants our money, as her personality skills are lacking. I would highly recommend finding another vet, I know we are.

I worked with Dr. Frank several years ago when she was a Veterinarian at the clinic I still currently am employed at. She is one of the best! She always has a pets best interest in mind. I trusted my fur babies with her, and still would to this day. I was sad when she made her journey to Iowa, but never doubted her potential or her skills. If you want a friendly, honest, caring and compassionate Veterinarian, Dr. Frank is the Vet for your pet!

I have had great experiences with the Coralville Animal Clinic. Dr. Frank and the staff are always friendly, helpful, and professional. Dr. Frank spends the time to give thorough explanations of my pets issues, and she offers several options for treatment. Its clear that the whole staff is invested in the happiness and well-being of my dog. Prices are somewhat expensive, but about average for the area, and well worth it for great care.

Ive taken my dogs to Coralville Animal Clinic for over 15 years and have consistently gotten very good service. They were considerate and sensitive when I had to put my old sick dog to sleep. Brenda (the front desk lady) is helpful, I like all three docs a lot. Contrary to some other reviews, I do not find Dr. Gene rude -- I experience him as a quick thinker who is very direct and matter-of-fact.
