Best vet in town. Very caring and compassionate. Prices are much lower since you dont pay for a huge building with TVs in the waiting room. They make sure your animals have great quality of life. You can tell they all really love animals. I have been going there with all my animals (dogs, cats, rabbits) for nearly 10 years. They are booked solid for routine appointments and so you do need to make these in advance. They are so caring in emergencies and have even squeezed me in with a sick pet before the "normal" business hours started for the day. They never guilt you or bully you into unnecessary medical procedures or tests. They were very honest with me when we had a very old pet and told me that there really was no reason to poke/prod him for tests at his age and health. They could have easily squeezed hundred of dollars in testing out of me, but they put the animals quality of life first and I really appreciate that. I would never take any pet to any other vet even though I drive past many of them to get across town to his clinic.

I took my Ferret there for an adrenalectomy surgery. I was very nervous about the surgery but the moment I stepped into the exam room all of the worries went away! The doctor was very knowledgeable about ferrets and put my mind at ease! I wouldnt let the one star comment freak you out. I worked at a vet clinic and there is only so much time in the day we could see patients. Think about how long you have to wait to be seen at a human doc office. The receptionist probably understood that he was very concerned and told him he should see another vet for the time being since he was so concerned about the lumps. How can you still be mad when they said they were booked full? There is nothing they can do to create more time in the day. There are other sick and lumpy animals not just your own benjamin

Absolutely amazing clinic! I adopted a dog while in college, and cost is always a concern. This clinic will NOT let you down! Although it doesnt look like much from the outside (it looks like a cozy little cottage), the staff was top notch and the appointment was super affordable. I saw Dr. Bryan Wayne because my dog was due for his rabies shot. After some valid recommendations for other medication (one for an ear infection, another for kennel cough, which my dog has a history of), I ended up getting three shots done and the ear medication for right around $85! If youve ever owned a dog you know how quickly costs can skyrocket! Dr. Wayne was extremely gentle with my pet, and the assisting staff was also top notch. They will be getting my service for the rest of the time I am in Des Moines.

We have a German Shepherd that is a male and rather large at 105 lbs. He has a history of being quite a mean guy at times he is extremely protective and doesnt particularily like anybody but us, his owners. We let the kind folks at Oaks know all of this ahead of time, matter of fact the former owner of our "guy" had taken him there in the past. Even knowing the dog has a questionable history, they were willing to give us an early morning appointment and more than willing to take care of our big mean guys needs. All at a price that was unbelievably cheap. Easily way less than half of what any other clinic would have charged us if they were willing to let him through their door in the first place! Excellent to say the very least!

I dont know what happened to this place. I used to utilize Oaks for all my pets major proceedures. But , this week when I discovered a rather large cyst under my dogs tail next to her rectum, I called them immediately to make an appointment. I was told they dont have anything open and simply suggested I take her somewhere else. I realise I havent taken my dog in as regularly as I should, but she is a healthy and very happy puppy. I find it very disheartening to be so easily turned away now that my dog is actually in need of real medical treatment. They have been more than happy take take my money for surgeries in the past, for both my dogs. Now, I dont know what to do. Thank you very much Oaks...

They were fantastic with my savu python and very affordable!!! My total was only $35.00. The vet tech I spoke to as well as all the other staff I worked with were great. Dr.Harmon was admirably honest and very informative. He did not want to give her meds unless it was absolutely necessary. He cared a great deal about not stressing her out, which means so much to both my snake and myself. His instructions on taking care of her problems she was having were detailed and helpful. I was acctualy lucky enough to get her in the same day I called! Thank you so much oaks!!! I will be referring you to anyone that is concerned about there loved one. Sencerly, Wyatt (me), and Eclipse (the snake)

It isnt all that hard to find veterinarians for dogs, cats, monkeys, sugar gliders, and other warm-blooded creatures. Birds are a little harder, but doable. Lizards, snakes, and amphibians, however, are another story. I understand that all of the vets at Oaks "do" herps- and do them very well. I am very happy with their knowledgeable and concerned care for my lizards. They even knew about the genus of each, and something of the peculiarities of each of my two different "flavors" of uromastyx. Im not sure whether there are other herp vets in the Des Moines area or not, but the docs at Oaks are first-rate.

We have been taking our dogs to Oaks for as far back as I remember, Dr. Harmon and his staff are very personable and know how to handle your pet. Ive referred many of my friends and family to him through the years and one friend in particulars pets skin condition was figured out within one visit after years of dealing with it and paying lots of money with another vet. Very reasonably priced and will never make you do anything unnecessary to make extra money!!

Dr. Harmon and all of the Drs and Vet Techs are by far the most compassionate, caring of any I have ever experienced. Ive come into their clinic crying with a hamster with a broken leg, a new rescue dog who was very sick with heartworm, and my other dog who had just been hit by a car outside of their business hours. Caring comes first and they are THE BEST!!

I love dr harmon and have taken my dogs to him off and on for years knowledgable and affordable. I consistently notice, however that the people he has answering his phone lack concern, have snotty tones of voice and act like im doing them a favor by taking my animal to their clinic... overall i would recommend this clinic and just ignore the office staff.

The prior owner of my dog had taken her to this place where they gave her a clean bill of health and determined that she was spayed. Within a few months she went through a heat cycle and tested positive for heartworm. While they may be reasonable as far as cost, you certainly will overpay at the expense of the health of your animal.
