My animals have been patients at Helmwood Veterinary Clinic for over 30 years. If it wasn’t for the caring, dedicated staff at the clinic, some of my current brood wouldnt be alive today. My dogs and cats have had nothing but top notch care. Sure, there may be circumstances for others that have not bode well, however, there are always times when things don’t always go as planned. I too have had to wait in the waiting room and am always amazed that people become irritable while having to wait. Heres the point...there is someones pet in the back receiving great care while you are waiting to receive the same. Also, you get what you pay for. Diagnostic tests are expensive and veterinary overhead is expensive. However, the doctors, the techs, the front office personnel and everyone else have always been so kind and helpful to me, even when Im on the other end of the phone secreaming, "help, what do I do?" So, if its first class care that you want your babies to receive, I would recommend Helmwood Veterinary clinic....Bow Wow:) Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Joplin, Doodlebug, Sassy and Kid Rocks Mommy

We have taken our dogs here for more than 20 years. We have found all the vets we worked with to be friendly and caring. I always received a call when I was told I would get one. When I called because one of the dogs was sick I always got a timely appointment. It is expensive to properly care for your animals. And annual check ups and shots and heartworm pills are no exception. To those who complain about the money - YOU HAVE TO PAY for any service you get. Unbelievable, dont have animals if you cant afford to take care of them. They did lose my business this spring when the dogs were due for their annual because they still do not offer a 3 years rabies vaccination. In fairness I called and asked them about it months before and told them I wouldnt be in if they didnt offer it by the spring. Due to the annual cost I mentioned earlier I transferred to a clinic that offers a 3 years rabies vaccination so that I wont be tied to having to spend all that money every April/May. While I love and care for my dogs dearly, I dont even go to the doctor every year. No complaints on staff or service.

I still owe a bunch of money, way to expensive but that is all I can do right now for my cat. I took him in for a glucose level check, cost me 20 bucks. Dr. Reed was supposed to call within 48 hours and let me know if I need to up the insulin dosage for my cat, she never called, so I called after I waited a few more days and they told me she was busy and that she will call me. Still never heard from her. Ran out of needles so I bought the same kind online for way cheaper and this vet never called and said I had to pick up my written prescription that the online pharmacy needed apparently even though I had already given them my cats info so my cat is now waiting another week for insulin needles because I have to mail the written prescription in which could take another week and was not told anything except by the online retailer when I emailed them asking about my order and why I have not received it. Otherwise they were gentle with my cat but the cost and way they do their job is outrageous and ridiculous. I know you all are busy and have a lot of patients but come on now.

I have to agree about not even deserving one star. My regular vet was in the hospital and their voicemail recommended this (horrible) place. They took my dog and out of site examined her. Told me what they were going to do. In less than an hour, they called to tell me she had died. Died?!! My guess is they gave her too much pain medicine and she stopped breathing and they could not revive her. Then they had the nerve to present me with a bill almost $300. I want to see what they are doing with my babies. When they took her, I should have refused right then for further care. There was another vet office just down the street. Hindsight is great, but always too late. I miss my baby (and she was pregnant with her first litter.) Not all vets and techs are gentle and kind. I want to see how they handle my animals. Pediatricians do not take your kids to another room to examine them.

After reading a few earlier reviews, I was a little worried about leaving my cat here. She has a serious hatred of being boarded so I wanted to try to find the best place available. With so few options in the area, I chose Helmwood. After picking up my cat from an 8 day stay, I have to say I couldnt be happier! She had a difficult time with her stay but not because of the staff or the place - rather from separation anxiety. The staff called me to keep me up-to-date with everything going on and did everything possible to avoid stressing her any further than she already was. Honestly, I cant imagine them taking any better care of my cat than they did. I highly recommend Helmwood and would put my cat there again in a heartbeat if it was necessary (though really, we try to avoid boarding her anywhere as much as we can due to hatred of being away from home).

Helmwood Veterinary Clinic has been my clinic of choice for many years. I have taken my past and present pets there and I can only attest to friendly & caring staff to include everyone at the clinic. At Helmwood Veterinary Clinic compassion is not only a word but also practice. I experienced this first hand when my beloved dog came to the end of his life. On a few separate occasions my Veterinarian of choice visited my home to examine my dog when he was unable to move. Because of her compassion my dog was allowed to end his life at home - with the people who loved him and in the environment he knew for most of his life. For that I will be forever grateful! There was no question under whos care I would place my new dog under. We visited today - we were seen on time and I am looking forward to a healthy and happy pet. Thank you Helmwood Veterinary Clinic!

There was NO communication on charges- and it was in person that I spoke with your office manager. Seriously- that is your response!? A Very opportunistic office! Money is their first priority! My 20yr , college student, daughter boarded her 6 mo. old puppy for 1 week for $152. The bill upon picking him up was over $300. They called her while she was on vacation and stated he had some medical problems they were concerned with- but they lacked to inform her of the cost! They knew mama had her credit card on file to bill fees too. The puppy is only 6 mos old and has had previous vet checks and vaccinations- how much can you look for and bill out seems to be the goal. Why is doing the RIGHT Thing such a rarity these days?
