I adopted my cat, Fire, from the Kentucky Humane Society after being there for two months. There his name was Dave. Before I adopted Fire, I specifically asked about his eyes and their prognosis, as something looked off. I was told that, based on veterinary assessments, he, "had physical damage to his eyes" that they believed would "go away over time" and that they had been treating him with a basic antibiotic. I was more than willing to adopt a cat who had been through some troubles, and was used to animals with sight impairments, so I wasnt worried. After all, this wasnt some kitty mill, or Metro Animal Services, this was the Humane Society. But boy was I wrong. We took Fire to the vet just three days after adopting him, and the vet techs and vet, one of the most experienced in Louisville, were immediately shocked at what they saw. They knew instantly that he had Herpes (which is very common and treatable in cats and always manifests in the eyes) and the state of his eyes was due to severe neglect on the part of the Kentucky Humane Society who never treated him for Herpes the entire two months he was in the shelter. I took him to another vet for a second opinion, and she too was shocked. She told me, alluding to the severe neglect of his eye, "Emily, you are kind hearted, but the Ky Humane Society should be paying for his treatment." Fire has been to the vet almost every week since I have had him. He has been on upwards of 6 medications. Rounds of antibiotics, anti-viral medications and steroids in the form of drops and salves and oral gels, some administered three times a day. At last check (last week) his prognosis was shaky. He was showing improvement, but still had a lot of edema and there were still fears that his cornea could still rupture, requiring surgery and potentially the loss of one of his eyes. I came home tonight and, it appears that his cornea may, in fact, have ruptured, making the worst case much more probable. We can hopefully see the veterinary ophthalmologist tomorrow and find out more. In all of his treatment, I did receive a phone call from the The Humane Society, asking that I complete a survey. When I was honest that I felt they had neglected his health concerns while he was in their care, I was transferred to their "Customer Care Manager" who conveniently was out of the office, but for whom I left a message that has yet to be returned. While my vet suggested the Humane Society should pay for his care, I just want to know why. Why, as an organization whose vision includes the hope that "every companion animal is given the care, resources and lifelong home they deserve" wouldnt they have cared for my animal to the best of their abilities? The fact that all the vet techs at both clinics, and both vets knew instantly that it was herpes, even before they stained his eyes, leads me to believe that their vet, if s/he is worth any salt, also knew he had herpes. And then why not treat him? Were they afraid that he wouldnt be adoptable if the word got out that he had been treated for herpes? Is that a reason to neglect an precious baby animal? Or maybe they didnt really take him to the vet? Do the animals even see real veterinarians? There are so many unanswered questions and a hurting kitty who may lose his eyes because of the Humane Societys neglect. #inhumanesociety #humanesociety #khs #animaljustice #animalwelfare

If I could give it 0 stars I would. We are a foster family, we have a lot of dogs come through our home. We deal with neuters a lot. This was the second dog we had taken to SNIP. We have had complications with both of our fosters stemming from the procedures this place preformed. This was worst experience for the dog EVER.... If you have a giant breed dog and love him, and value his life. DO NOT TAKE HIM HERE. They had to sedate him more than once and go back inside a second time to fix whatever mistake they made to begin with. A combination of which caused severe swelling. Softball sized. After the dog came home, he ended up with narcosis (the tissue around the incision died and turned black, causing an infection) caused by the trauma and swelling from the botched procedure. Which ended up falling open (a giant piece of black dead tissue, not just skin broke loose and was hanging from him and the blood clot that had formed fell out and he started bleeding profusely) because they do not stitch up any of the neuters. Yes thats right they send your dog home with an open wound to "allow it to drain" (which is common for most breeds but another BIG no no for larger and giant breeds) We had to take him to our family vet / animal hospital and hear a earful about how bad this clinic treated the procedure. Needles to say no dog should have to go through this type of issue or pain. Our Fosters will never go here again. Im sure these are very capable vets. And This is the lowest cost in town. But you get what you pay for. This place does hundreds of these surgeries a week. So Im sure the time and breed / type specific information was never taken into account. All they do is turn these animal in and out due to the low cost. Im sure many never have a problem. But large and giant breeds have special consideration that need to be taken into account. This place didnt do that. To make it worse they didnt even own up to the mistake. They tried to pass it off as a bleeding disorder, or as if our dog had gotten a hold of rat poison. Neither of which were true and was confirmed through testing and blood work at our family vet. To sum it up I will never trust this place with any pet of mine again. If cost is an issue, then shop around there are comparable pricing at regular vets all around town. You and Your dog will be better off for it. The next giant breed dog may not be so lucky..

We took our fur baby (Zootie) to be spayed, the staff was very friendly answered all questions clearly to my satisfaction .The staff assured us as we were leaving our fur baby that she would be fine ,and that we could call and check on her...we did assured that the surgery went well and she was resting .When it was time to pick our Zootie up,again the staff were very friendly and helpful answered our questions ,explained the procedure that was done and how to treat it after getting her home , after working all day you would think they would be tired and grumpy and they werent . As we all know if you have ever had to have an anesthetic you are lethargic, and our fur baby was fine she slept off& on the rest of the day ,no side effects at all ,she had stitches on the inside and glue on the outside of the wound, it wasnt red,a little bump is all and I feel it was from pulling the skin together, once home she slept because of the anesthesia , we would wake her and rub water across her mouth so she would have to like once she did that we got a shallow water dish so she didnt have to hold her head up very long because she was still very lethargic, she didnt want any food, so we made sure we gave her water every hour as the night went on you could tell it was wearing off. We put dog pads, down so she could potty, which she did even though she was wobbly .We didnt have any problem with her wound she tried a few times but we said no she left it alone ,even though we bought a neck collar didnt have to use it . The next morning she was up with my husband ( whos in a motorized chaìr) ready to eat ,he gave our fur baby a little bit to see if it was going to stay down it did, then an hour later he gave her a little more and since then shes eating well ,and had a regular bowel movement. She did great ,because of the WONDERFUL doctors and staff at S.N.I.P. Clinic ,if we need anything else done it will be done there ,they did a great job with our fur baby ...you can tell they truly have a special love for animals .The prices ,are very reasonable for the procedures ,they do. They dont push any extra cost on you . Thank You ,so very much for taking great care of our fur baby and doing a great job . If someone asks me we will highly recommend your services Sincerely, Bernie & Robin French
