So, my cat ate a flower out of a flower bouquet on my table on Monday. (turns out it is a non-toxic Alstromeria or Peruvian Lily, which is not a True Lilly). The cat threw up and I assumed all was well. He was eating, drinking, using the bathroom. Wednesday I came home from work and he was in the floor crying out in pain. I noticed he kept going to the litter box and was unable to urinate. This was of major concern! Several hours later, he was able to expel a small amount of urine, but I knew this was not normal so I took him to Pennyrile Animal Clinic the next day ( Thursday). I explained the flower incident. No tests were ran, the Vet said he "felt" for a urinary blockage (which I now know is impossible) and sent me home with antibiotic. He seemed to think that it is a urinary tract infection and if it is the flower then his kidneys will shut down. AND that he likely would not make it through that. I appreciated the honesty at the time, so okay, $100.00 later we are out the door. The cat seemed fine that afternoon, drinking water, eating, using the bathroom. Friday when I come home from work, the cat is crying out again, he has not drank any water, ate or used the litter box. I immediately call the animal clinic back, speak with the vet. He says that the cat is just uncomfortable and to just keep giving him the antibiotic. He will be fine. I felt like he had no concern for my cat and also I am not even sure he remembered anything about our particular case. How can not being able to urinate be okay or healthy? I just could not accept his answer and I am SO GLAD I didnt. I contacted our Previous vet in Mississippi and he said, A) the flower is not toxic at all and would only cause Diarrhea, so the kidney failure statement should have never been said. B) To him, it sounded like a major urinary blockage and you cannot feel for those. C) Some form of urinalysis should have been performed. He suggested I find someone else the next day. Luckily, my mother in law has an ABSOLUTELY, AMAZING, SKILLED team and vet in Providence, KY! I took my cat Saturday. They determined the cat had a urinary blockage and would need to have a urinary cath done to clear the blockage. They also actually performed a Urinalysis to determine the cause of this problem. If I would have listened to Pennyrile Animal Clinic, my cat would not be with me at the moment. You guys need to step up your game, attempt to be a little more personable and actually listen to your clients concerns! Although you may be skilled in what you do to a degree, your clients are with their animals everyday! I am in disbelief that my animal was basically just brushed to the side. I am very disappointed that I paid money for service that was not helpful, or needed and that money is lost! I basically paid to have someone brush us off and give me antibiotic that I did not even need. I may have to drive 30-40 minutes to our new vet, but I dont mind the drive. I would rather receive care for my animals form people who actually care if they survive or not!
