The vet forgot to mention that the vaccinations he was giving my four month old puppy could possibly cause an allergic reaction (that would cause us to rush him to the hospital), which was weird because he made sure he didnt forget to charge us $13 for a nail trim (that you can get for no more than $9 anywhere else). However, it is not the ridiculously high prices that caused me to switch vets and write this review, its the carelessness. My boyfriend and I were both at the appointment and neither of us remember the vet telling us that there was a chance our puppy could have a reaction to the vaccinations. When our puppys face started swelling up, we immediately called Staring Vet Centers "emergency number" and were given an answering machine, so we hung up and drove to the nearest animal hospital. The hospital we went to was about to close and its vet had already gone home for the day; however, when we called her (the vet), she showed up within five minutes in her pajamas to take care of our puppy (care we wouldve expected from Staring Center). She took care of our puppy, calmed us down, and sent us home with care instructions AND an emergency number that, in the case she was unavailable, would automatically forward to a 24-hour animal hospital instead of an answering machine. When we went to Staring Vet Center today to see if they could help explain what went wrong, our vet spoke to us in a condescending manner (Im assuming because he was embarrassed) and put the blame onto the company that the vaccinations came from. I dont think the reaction was the companys fault and Im well aware there was no way of knowing our puppy would have a reaction prior to the vaccination, Im upset that the vet failed to let us know of the possibility of a reaction, that the vet failed to let us who to call/where to go in case of an emergency (a number on an answering machine is insufficient; when Im in a panic because my dogs eyes are swollen shut, Im not around a pen/paper to write a number down and play telephone with the entire city of Baton Rouge), and that the vet failed to show any remorse or that he didnt seem to care at all about the health of our dog as much as he cared that our credit card went through. I wouldnt recommend anyone to take his/her animal here and if I could put less than one star on the review, I would.

I took my two dogs in for a couple shots that I had already priced at a few other vet in the area. I decided to Staring Plaza Vet because it was closer. Just by looking at the building I didnt even think about checking the prices. All of the other vets were pretty close in price, so i made the mistake of thinking this one would be as well. Bottom line... 3 other highly respectable vets quoted me between 100 to 150 dollars for the booster shots and wellness exam, this vet $500 when it was all said and done. I almost lost it. I asked why they were so expensive and they gave me some BS about how they spend more time with the pets and give better service. I have had my dogs for almost 10 years and they didnt spend any more time or give better service than every other vet i have gone to. Once i got home and started to dig a little deeper into the bill I saw how the price got so high. They didnt do anything extra, they just charge you for every little thing and then there prices are twice, if not 3 times, the cost of other vets. Small Example: I called 4 vets after i left and a simple rabies shot ranged between 10 and 13 dollars. Staring Vet...$30. My advice is to find another vet. There is not way they are 2 to 3 times better than all of the other vets in Baton Rouge. Even if you do have the extra money i would go to another vet and give the hundreds of dollars you just saved to a charity.

All of our current and past pets are under Dr. Berryhills care. The veterinary care is very professional and thorough. Whenever possible, Dr. Berryhill takes a conservative approach and backs up his diagnoses and treatment plans with recommendations from professional literature. So far, he has always been spot on. Our large dogs are treated like babies by the good doctor and his staff (which is probably more important for the owners than the pets themselves). It is obvious that everyone in Dr. Berryhills office loves animals. We also board the dogs at their kennel facility and there have never been any problems. The office has most necessary diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound and X-ray, so little needs to be "farmed out". When one of our dogs developed a middle ear infection last October, bacterial cultures had to be sent out for antibiotic resistance studies, which took a couple of days, followed by a few more days of custom formulation of the antibiotic gel. Today we were pleased to find out that our dog is fine. The office stayed in touch with us over the past 3 months and followed up on the dogs condition after each of the many treatments. If you are looking for a veterinary office "for life", you can count on a very personal and friendly relationship with the chatty doctors and the staff and, most importantly, very knowledgeable and effective veterinary care for your pet.

I boarded my two dogs here for a three day trip. Although they were supposed to take them out three times a day, one of my dogs had poo on her when I picked them up. She never has accidents at home, in or out of her crate. Also, this dog gets flax seed oil daily for dry skin and I asked if she could receive a tablespoon with her daily food. Without telling me, they charged me 6.00 A DAY to give this AND they gave it to my male dog instead of to her!!!! When I saw the charge on the bill the next day, I called about it since it read that they had to give "medication" to my male dog, so I wondered why and what it was. Thats when they told me, laughing, that they gave the oil to the wrong dog, but said, "at least we didnt charge you for giving it to both dogs." No apology. It took me quite awhile to fill out all the paperwork on checking them in. Each dog had a separate paper and the female had the flax seed oil request clearly on hers only. The female is very sensitive dog and she shook all the evening after picking her up. Although she is sensitive, shes never done this on my picking her up from any other place. I didnt see the fold out beds the photo shows on the site inside the dens at the time I picked mine up. ??? All I saw was one rug-throw. ? The staff seemed nice, but this was my experience, folks, you decide.

I originally booked for my dog to stay here for a week and get a bath. When I was on vacation I got a call from them stating that his rabies vaccination would expire soon. I called a friend and informed the clinic that I was having someone pick him up and not to give him a bath or anything b/c I didnt realize when I dropped him off that I didnt have the money to cover the boarding plus the bath, let alone the vaccination. They gave him a bath and the vaccination anyway and charged me for both. I had no money to pay them and was furious that they went against my wishes when I told both the receptionist and the Vet very clearly that I didnt want any extra services b/c I simply could NOT pay for them. I paid them (a few months later, out of spite mostly). After receiving my payment they notified a credit agency and I got a negative mark on my credit. HORRIBLE horrible vet clinic! Not to mention that I used to work at a vet clinic with one of the Vet techs that had begun working at this clinic. When I worked with her she was very rough with the animals and just mean to them, using physical violence with the animals at times out of spite.
