Very sorry to say but I had a terrible experience at this clinic a couple years ago - perhaps things are different now, and this is both the clinic and the eyeglass place associated with it just off the reception area at the Mandeville location. It was so bad that I almost made a report to the medical association. I had an eye exam and that went OK, but I chose progressive lenses and had the prescription filled at the same place. Trouble was that the lenses gave me blurry vision and headaches for weeks. I went back over and over and the receptionist would be irritated (the same one who sold me the glasses), saying that I just wasnt used to progressive lenses. I told her I felt it was something more but she would just take my glasses and bend them until I thought they would break and hand them back to me. Finally, after going back the third time, I insisted on another opinion and she VERY begrudgingly got the optometrist involved (actually telling me that I was taking him from someone elses eye exam), who re-examined me with the glasses on and found that the lab had made a horrible mistake. The optometrist looked embarrassed, but neither he nor the receptionist who had been ugly to me for weeks, apologized. When I got the notice a year later to schedule another exam, I laughed out loud. I did call the place and told the tale to whomever was the doctor then, and THAT person apologized, but it was really too late. Like I said, this was a couple years ago, but really tells the tale about how a medical practice is run. I should have filed a formal complaint with someone, I know, but I have told all my friends, and now I am telling you.

I have been a patient of Dr. Caplan for many years. I recently went for a yearly visit and was very disappointed. The staff was very rude and pushy. They billed my insurance incorrectly and charged me after I explained I did not owe anything and explained the benefits per my insurance company. After they told me they called and got the benefits from my insurance company and I still owed, I paid. Later I find out they never called for benefits and in fact I did not owe anything for the office visit. I am in the insurance business so I may be more informed than most. Best advice I can give to anyone is to check with your insurance company regarding your benefits prior to going to the doctor and to check your EOB to make sure it was paid correctly. Also, shop for your glasses before purchasing them. You can find them cheaper at other places. I will not be returning.

I have been a client since I was a child at the location on the Southshore. All my family members also go to Caplan on the Southshore. I moved to the Northshore and was excited to see that he had a location here. Receptionist is friendly. I always had Dr. Caplan but now to go Sumich as hes available at the time of day I can go. Both doctors are VERY knowledgeable and have no hesitation to answer questions and have explained to me about my eye issues (floaters) in a manner I can understand, with tips on what to look out for and how to reduce eye strain. I recommend them 100%!

Great Experience! I would recommend Dr. Caplan and any of the other doctors in his practice to all my friends and family. Also the Optical shop that is part of the clinic is a great time saver!

Caplan Eye Clinic staff are wonderful. I had a serious issue with one of my corneas and the doctors took great care of me. Dr Sumich and Dr Caplan are class acts!
