This place has very lousy customer service. Doctors were friendlyenough, if not a bit inconsistent in their service fees (on my first visit I asked for my pups nails to be clipped and that went uncharged where on my second visit, a month later I was charged for the same service). The office manager (Kelly), however, is seriously lacking in common courtesy and professionalism both over the phone and in person. On my first visit I had to wait almost an hour past my appointment for my dog to be seen. On my second visit, my 4 month old puppy was given his second rabies vaccination in two months because, although I had provided the staff with his records and tags, they overlooked the fact that he had recieved his rabies vacination (which is extremely obviously displayed via a bright red tag attached to his original files). He has since been throwing up and mellowed out. I had set up my first visit shortly after adopting my puppy, and in his files it was written that he was due for his final vaccination by the 15th of that month. I set up his appointment promptly with this facility, and paid for and exam/vaccination. Under the doctors disgression I was told that it was too soon for my pup to get his final vaccination that day, and was asked to set up an appointment a couple weeks later solely for the purpose of the vaccination. When I just came this weekend, I was charged for a second examination and vaccination. It was explained to me that nothing was written under my puppys files that he just needs to return for a vaccination that was not given on the original date, and I was charged again for complete service. This again exemplifies how inconsistent this practice has been. Upon recieving our bill at our last appointment, my fiance and I were beyond shocked at all the charges. We were trying to figure out how to split/payoff the bill (which was not cheap), and the office manager rudely "butted" in to our discussion, and when we tried to pay (very obviously having said we will pay the bill and holding out our credit card to do so), she basically ignored us for 10 minutes, typing on her computer (we assumed she was finalizing our bill which is why we did not interrupt her), answering her phone, and chitchatting with the other receptionist. We finally had to "butt" in to her attempts to ignore us to ask if we can pay our bill. She was just a very unpleasant person to represent the face of this practice. I will definitely not be bringing my puppy to this practice after my last experience. This is a shame as despite all the inconsitencies and negativity, I would reccomend the skill sets and expertise of the actual doctors and staff treating the animals, but ultimately as a customer, if I have to deal with office manager Kelly, I would definitely take my business elsewhere. I should have foreseen this before my last appointment because of how combatitive Kelly was over the phone when I was just setting up my appointment.

I have used Nebel Street Animal hospital for three cats and a dog. Whether helping me to integrate a new dog into a multi-pet household or, sadly, euthanizing an elderly cat, the vets and the staff have been wonderful. The doctors love for animals is obvious, and they help to set my nervous pets at ease: while my cats are never thrilled to be at the vet, they are far more calm at Nebel Street than they have been at other veterinary practices. Nebel Street also operates very professionally. They answer calls in-person and promptly and always call me back quickly regarding lab results or my questions. As well, I have found it easy to get an appointment within a ten-day window. Wait times in the office are never long either. Before a doctor orders a medicine, procedure, or lab test, I am always told the cost up front and asked for explicit authorization, and I appreciate this transparency. When the front desk staff occassionally seem rushed or a little distant, I am not bothered because I can tell that they are all working hard to help the business run smoothly. I also like that Nebel Street has boarding facilities. I have not boarded a dog there, but the cat boarding room - glassed-in multi-level kennels along the waiting area - is very well designed. When Ive wanted in-home pet sitting services, Nebel Street Animal Hospital has come through with great referrals too. I like this place so much that Ive stuck with it, even after moving into DC. Its well worth the commute for me to maintain my relationship with Nebel Street Animal Hospital.

I was there on 2/12/2011, terrible staff upfront: Daniel is unprofessional, untrained and rute to customers. no customer service, no compassion. Yes, i agree with the comment above "The receptionist and interns appear friendly", ONLY appear but the real situation is not helpful and Treat customers horrible. I had an appt at 10 in the morning, I set it up the previous Tuesday, they told me that you don’t have the appointment and should reschedule. Later I found out my cat had a fever and upper respiratory infection, and If doctor did not see the cat the same day, cat could have gotten the pneumonia. I agree avoid this place…Everything just seems to be nice and friendly, but they don’t work with you and treat customers like crap…In the end they told me “I am making a scene”…

I mostly take my dog here because it is convenient. I live right next door. They have always provided the medication Ive needed for her and her meds are very uncommon so I appreciate that. Dr. H has always been very gentle and caring with her and the other lady vet is super sweet. I agree the main receptionist is not my favorite person and could be much more friendly. In her defense, she deals with folks who want immediate answers to questions she is not at liberty to give or cant give without the vet seeing the animal first, but that isnt always the case when she is less then perfectly friendly. Depends on the day it seems and you never know what to expect.

I would highly recommend Nebel Street Animal Hospital to anyone who is looking for excellent client/customer service! Dr.Hambright was fantastic and did an extremely thorough exam and took the time to go through a lot of details with me. We are relatively new to the area and have an older dog with some very serious health problems. The staff has been wonderful through all of this and has answered all of my questions accordingly. They have even called a few times to check in with me which I really appreciate. I dont feel like "just another patient" and I have been very satisfied with my experiences.

I disagree with many of these negative reviews, maybe the staff has improved with customer service since they were written. I started going to them because my dog was having some health issues that my long time family vet couldnt correctly diagnose. I was with the Nebel vet less than 5 minutes before she figured it out. When my dog died a few months later (unrelated to the issue mentioned above) they sent us a sympathy letter and even made a small donation to an animal research foundation in her honor. They have never been less than kind or courteous to us and Im so glad to have found them.
