I am the President and Founder of a rescue in the metro Detroit area that often gets very abused, neglected and sick animals that come to us. Although this hospital is a 45 minute drive for us to get to, it is the only hospital that we will ever use. Not only do they take top natch care of our animals, they also give our animals more love and attention then any other hospital we have used in the past. The doctors who care for our animals truly do care about the animals we bring to them and we do not bring them very easy cases. No matter how difficult the case, they work tirelessly to fix our animals and do not use the word euthanize unless they are sure that our animal cannot be fixed. Which is how our rescue wants our vets to think since we have used other vets in the past that want to put down animals that we know could still live a long and happy life with more effort, and that is what Dr. Ruland and her staff of veterinarians do for our animals. We will never use any other emergency hospital when we have everything we could have ever asked for with this hospital. I would highly recommend them to anyone. In fact, once our foster families start taking our animals to this hospital for treatment, we have found they all have changed to this hospital for their personal animals in their home, because they love the way their foster animals are treated here. I have read some other reviews on here that are negative and I cannot believe they are talking about the same hospital? They sound like people who expect a lot of work with not having to pay their vets appropriately. Really, complaining about a ER vet bill being just under $300.00 for care? Most ERs we have used in the past will charge you half that for just walking in the door. People who truly care for the animals they have wouldnt complain about the cost if they had to use some of the vets we have used in the past and the prices we paid compared to here. I find this ER to be very reasonable in price compared to so many others we have used prior. I also know for a fact, when it comes to people complaining about not being able to afford care, they do their best to work with them on price. Shame on those who want to complain about affordable ER vetting.

My cat was laying on my floor and looking miserable. After talking with my vet I brought him in to the emergency vet on Wednesday around 9:00 pm. My cat cried on the way to the vet and when I brought him inside to check in he was still howling. The receptionist was the only disappointment as she spent time talking with someone who didnt appear to have an animal there. Fortunately one of the vet assistants heard my cats cries, came out and asked me what was going on. Once she heard what was going on, she took him right back and started taking his vital signs. I was taken to a room and waited for someone to come in and let me know what was going on. The vet tech came back to talk to me and I wasnt expecting what she had to tell me, my cat was critical and they were working on him. They came back several times to let me know what was going on and unfortunately it wasnt good. My cat was dying and there wasnt anything they could do to save him. Surgery or medication wasnt going to fix the problem. The only thing I could do was make the decision to put him to sleep as his body was shutting down. I was able to be with him and talk to him before he was put to sleep and was able to be there with him when the vet gave him the medication to send him to heaven. She was extremely compassionate and explained to me what had happened to him. I was able to say goodbye and let him know how much I loved him. Because I made the decision to bring him home to bury him they prepared him for me to bring home. The vet and vet techs were extremely compassionate and kind to me. i would definitely bring my other animals there if they required emergency services. The only disappointment as I mentioned was the receptionist who didnt seem to understand that I was here with an emergency and had the vet tech not come out when she did, my cat would have remained in pain and crying until the receptionist finished her conversation. Everyone else was extremely compassionate and caring on a horrible night for me. They showed scooter, my cat, and me compassion and when I left bringing home my kittie to bury him I knew that they did everything they could and helped him from suffering more.

I just brought my cat home from a procedure at EVH. On Monday night my cat was having some trouble (exhibiting signs of a blocked urethra). We rushed him in, they saw us immediately, and they really took it from there. Throughout, I felt that we were in knowledgeable, sympathetic, generous hands. Everyone was nice to us, everyone was understanding that we were nervous, and everyone was professional. Dr. Ruland is especially great. Our cat stayed at EVH for about 40 hours. They were great about calling us twice a day to give us an update, and when I called once or twice to ask questions, they were really gracious about answering them (Im sure theyre busy with other things, but they really took the time). We also visited once about half-way through and no one seemed to mind that we were in their space cooing over our cat. During that visit, we were really impressed by the cage our cat was kept in. Maybe thats a weird thing to say. But the cage was made cozy, which felt reassuring. He had everything he needed--food, water, a full litter box, blankets, a bed--and was clearly fine (granted, also drugged up!). Just now, going over the discharge information, EVH was so patient with me. I had a list of questions, I carefully went over the discharge information, I asked for a medication-giving demonstration, you name it... and they talked with me for a good hour. No rush, no big deal, they were there to help. They even helped me move the carrier to my car. I cant speak to price other than to say that, while the procedure seemed expensive ($1700 to unblock the urethra and everything that follows), I take it from a friend who is a vet in Massachusetts that this price is average and represents the intensive care our cat was receiving. I also appreciated that before any action was taken, they presented us with an itemized estimate, answering any questions we had.

Complete and utter disgust with this establishment. Completely lack of companion and interaction with my puppy who had parvo. Most conversation was about the thousands of dollars they were going to drain me from. Arrived at 10 and she didnt start treatment until 1 am. I could understand maybe if we werent the only people in the building. Had to contact them for updates on my dog. Was told she was doing well and as soon as we arrive to pick her up she is no where near excellent that they said she was. Information on the food they said she was eating withheld from me. They couldnt tell me the name of the food but they told me I could come in and buy it from them. And when I told them she was still sick and I wanted to know why they would tell me she was better they told me I was more than welcome to bring her back. $800 for one night and no improvement and they really think i would bring her back? When I asked how to contact the owner I was told they were away but I was given an email. When I emailed them I found out quickly that was just another lie because the owner was not on the receiving end. The staff is horrible they do not care and I was warned by several other not to take my puppy here because they have lost pets due to these people, but they were my only option. Save yourself the time and money. I took my dog to the local vet and I was only charged 388 for 4 full nights. These people are a sham. These 5 star reviews obviously dont seem right to me and a hand full of others that I know have dealt with them. Just do yourself a favor and just dont go with these people as an option
