I have been a patient of Dr. Schwartz for over 5 years. I recently took my dog for his yearly teeth cleaning. Upon picking him up I slipped on the front steps and fell down them. My dog flew out of my arms into the bushes. I gathered him up and crawled up the steps on my knees back to the front door. When I opened it I yelled that I needed help. The receptionist and Dr Schwartz came out of the back. I was very shaken and asked the dr to be sure my dog was ok since he had been thrown out of my arms and into the bushes. I sat for a few minutes and gained my composure. They offered me to go out their back door instead of back down the front steps. Every other time my dog has had a procedure I get a phone call the next morning checking on his condition. No call came asking about him or me. As the day went on I got madder that they had not bothered to call and check on my dog and me. I called the office at 4 pm to see if I could cancel my insurance that I paid the day before for the upcoming year and was told it was too late they had already submitted it. When I asked why they hadnt called I was told they were "just to busy to call but had planned on doing it". (The office would be closing soon for the day) when I told the receptionist this was unacceptable and I was going to call my credit card company since I was considering leaving the practice. I was put on hold for over 5 minutes. When she came back on the line I was told they would send me a check. The next day I called to ask to have my dogs records transferred to another vet and explained that I was disappointed with their lack of compassion not only for me but for my dog and that was why I was leaving the practice. The next day I received a check from them in an envelope with no note. I have left this practice and as stated am very l disappointed by the lack of compassion and concern I and my dog received with this incident. In the meantime I have a huge bruise and lump on my back as well as a very stiff neck. I do not feel comfortable having my dog treated by a practice that would handle a situation like this so poorly. I would not recommend this practice to anyone!

We brought our 16 yr old beloved cat, Paws, to Downtown Birmingham Vets to see Dr. Schwartz because she wouldnt eat and was freaked out. It was her thyroid. He said he could do surgery but gave her only a 20% chance. I asked what he would do if she was his cat? He thought about it and said he would have the surgery done. We did, and she bounced back. Over 4 yrs later it happened again, and nothing could be done. But he gave us over 4 more years with our friend, and I will never forget that. Since then hes given great care to all our quadraped family members.

Take $200 and give it to a charity. I brought in my sick cat, to find him still sick the next day. I told her my kitty had a horrible cough. The vet did not listen to his chest, did not take him temp. (which was high) nor did she do blood work- which we would have happily agreed to once she heard the congestion in his chest and the high temp. She shot him with a vitamin and pumped some water in him, and sent us on our way. Not much to be said about her bedside manner, either. Glad we found a great vet in Clawson.

Ive been bringing my dogs here for 25 years or more and Dr. Schwartz and his staff have been amazing people to work with. My dogs have always loved coming here but that could be because of the cats that live here.
