The staff at Aspen Dental in Portage MI is just outstanding. I am from north Carolina and am traveling to portage for work. I teach the military a computer program and dont have much time during the work week. I was experiencing some extreme pain with a tooth. So I googled dentists in Portage MI and Aspen Dental was at the top of the list. So I called, explained my story and they were happy to give me an appointment. The only thing was the appointment was on a Saturday and it was Monday, I was in a lot of pain and had to work during the days. While making the appointment and telling my story to the receptionist she mentioned that on Tuesdays they have extended hours and that I should come by and attempt to fill in on a cancellation. So I took her advice and Tuesday I went in. Immediately the Patient service representativeTammy gave me a nice warm welcome. I explained my situation and she looked at me with a smile and said "your in luck" their just so happened to be a cancelation for the afternoon and they got me right in. The X-ray technician Cortney was extremely nice, very focused on my comfort while taking my X-rays for the examination. The Doctor, Ryan Halbower was very informative, explaining exactly what was wrong with my tooth in terms i could understand, laying out all my options and providing recommendations all while making me feel very relaxed. Once the decision was made for the procedure the treatment coordinator Jennifer came to discuss payment and insurance. She was so helpful through the almost 1 1/2 hr process attempting to get my insurance company to provide the correct information and to get all documents in order. Then to top it all off, during the 1 1/2 hr wait for my insurance company, the appointment slot I was going to fill had been booked while awaiting my insurance issues. The treatment coordinator and doctor still found a way to shuffle things around and get me in for my procedure and get me taken care of. The Aspen Dental office of Portage MI appeared to me as a Very well oiled machine. They were courteous, understanding and did everything in their power to get me well, out of pain and on my way. I would recommend Aspen Dental in Portage to anyone and I would go back for all my dental needs! The Aspen Dental of Portage MI truly made me feel like welcome family. Thank you Doc Ryan, Jennifer, Tasha, Tammy, Kim, Cortney and all the staff at Aspens Dental

I was weary about this place from the start. I called to set up an initial appointment for a cleaning and the girl who answered the phone was less then friendly. I ended up having to cancel my first appointment due to work issues but managed to rescheduled with a more friendly person than the first. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and was not seen for 30 minutes past my scheduled time. I was taken to get x-rays, which is pretty standard for a first visit. Next, the dentist came in, who repeatedly hit on me. After he left, a specialist came in to examine my teeth. Now, its been a few years since Ive been to the dentist so I expected them to say I had some plaque build up in my gums. This lady suggested I have a "deep cleaning" done and anti-bacterial gel applied in my gums. This all sounded ok, until I was taken to the consultation room. I have had the "deep clean" before at a family dentist and it was covered by my insurance. This place wanted $1300 (after insurance) to do the same thing as I had for free prior to this. No way. Ill stick to family dentistry. I went in for a cleaning and came away with a sore mouth from them poking and prodding. . Gingivitis or not- I didnt get what I went there for. When the dentist came in he asked me about the gingivitis before even looking at my teeth. This company is greedy and only wants your money. Go elsewhere!

I needed a cleaning, two fillings and my wisdom teeth taken out. The cleaning was great. The rest was HORRIBLE! I went to get my fillings done, they lost my films, and I sat there for TWO HOURS waiting for them to figure it out. At my insistence they finally took more X-rays so they could determine which teeth needed fillings. How do they not know which teeth? Their bedside manner was lacking, the injection of the numbing agent hurt more at Aspen than any other dentist I have ever been too. When it was over I decided that I was completely unwilling to allow them to perform minor surgery and made them return my pre-payment for my wisdom teeth removal. I have recently found out that the fillings they performed were subpar to say the least. One has broken and is showing signs of decay. In the same spot they filled. I had to pay a different dentist to have that fixed and now Aspen is giving me the run around trying to determine if they are at fault and whether or not I will be getting a refund for that filling. Its literally like pulling teeth trying to talk to the office manager who is always "at lunch." Terrible customer service, terrible business practices and horrible dental work. DO NOT GO TO ASPEN IF YOU ARE HOPING FOR QUALITY CARE, YOU WILL NOT GET IT. NO STARS.

I was originally forced to switch dentists due to my insurance. It was an adjustment as I had previous dentist for 20 years. My first cleaning was more rough than my previous "gentle dentist" but I was amazed at how much cleaner my teeth were and they stayed clean much longer from the proceedures Aspen used. It was worth the minor discomfort having such a more thorough cleaning for the same deductable as the half cleanings I was used to. I have also had a filling done at Aspen and as a phobic, I was suprised at how low stress and painless their proceedures were. There was a minor billing issue between aspen and my insurance but Aspen politely handled it for me and got it corrected. My previous dentist would not do anything to fix insurance issues. The only area I would rate less than excellent is that I had to wait beyond my scheduled apt time in a few cases. Aspen is a high volume shop and they obviously do this well with the number of clients they see. I would recommend this place to anyone who has had billing issues unhandled by other dentists or have dental phobias like mine. The staff is very polite and personable making your visit as stress free as possible.

Initially was happy I was able to be seen within 2 days. The staff was nice, polite, helpful. Everything down hill from there. Complications with procedure, unable to reach anyone. The after hours emergency number was incorrect on the recording. Not happy with work done. They make you pay for more than just the procedure they are doing that day, if its a multiple visit issue. But try getting a refund if you have to then be referred to specialist and they are unable to finish the procedures. Have been given excuse after excuse. Repeatedly told the girls answering the phones can not take care of refunds and will have to pass information along to someone who can. 6 months and multiple phone calls later Im told refund check has been issued, but let us confirm your address to be sure sent to right place. Suprise! They sent check to wrong address. Seriously! Very shady business practices.
