I am sorry to say I have had very poor experiences with this hospital. Im sorry because there were a couple of employees that I thought did a good job, however, their performance was outshone by unethical practices by the owners and doctors. Doctors here have frequently misdiagnosed and covered up injuries/illnesses causes by their own facilitys practices. They rely on support staff to do an inappropriate amount of diagnosis and treatment, and often feel routine aspects of veterinary medicine are beneath them. They also employ ineffective and potentially dangerous practices for critically ill pets, such as keeping pets with IVs in place overnight - with no staff there to monitor them! This leaves pets free to pull IVs out, wrap them around their bodies, around their necks, kink and occlude them in various fashions - leaving the pet completely without the fluids and intravenous medications they were supposed to receive, as well as in danger from blood loss and infection with pulled out IV lines, as well as the dangers of having cords wrapped around limbs, bodies and necks! ...But rest assured you will still be charged for it! They will also nickel and dime you to death in terms of charges. Example: vaccine costs have an exam fee built in - so if you get four vaccines, are you getting four exams? Try asking to have another medical issue looked at - you can rest assured youll find an additional exam fee on your bill! And boarding - expect a plethora of unexpected additional charges on your bill! In particular, the cost for treating any injuries your pet incurs while there will surely be added, even though the hospital is at fault. Please do yourself and your pets a favor, and seek out one of the many other veterinary practices in the area. There are a lot to choose from!

Started using portage animal hospital when doc lohman was there, he was the best, then he sold the business. They fired the receptionist who had been there for many years, that sucked. Our 13 year old lab had cancer, they made my husband feel horrible for NOT electing to do a treatment option that would have prolonged his life by only a couple of months (750 to 1000 bucks). I brought in my newly adopted dog, I pointed out that his ear had brown discharge, they used the ear scope thing and said that it looked good. A year later, I decided to use a differant vet for his teeth cleaning, the vet looked into his ear with the scope and told me that he had a ruptured ear drum and a raging yeast infection. My dog suffered at the hands of these incompitant vets. 2 thumbs down and a not smiley face for this place. I recommend lakeview vet on portage rd.

Being new to an area is about more than just unpacking boxes at your new place. There are important replacements - auto repair shops, find a new favorite restaurant or two, locating your new stylist, the list goes on. We definitely made the right choice on a new vet by going to Portage Animal Hospital! The staff is so helpful and both Dr.s have been great with our pets. We were recently out of town and had forgotten our dogs sedatives for riding in the car. Unfortunately, we didnt realize this until the morning we were getting ready to leave; needless to say, it would not have been a pleasant ride home. I contacted the PAH office staff and they worked with the out of town vet. We were able to pick up the Rx within just hours!

I started going here in 2009 and have never had the need to go to another vet. They are all so friendly, they always remember me and my pets! I would recommend this office to anyone looking for a vet. Both dr. Lunney and dr. Hemholt are very wonderful doctors they always answer my crazy questions :)
