I was very pleased when Dr. Maxwell was in charge but changes made in the last year with Dr. Belew and the new secretary(Tracy) have created a very unpleasant unwelcoming environment. 1) The body language of the secretary and how I am spoken to on the phone makes me feel very unwelcome. Im a sweetheart but Im made to feel uncomfortable just for being physical present. I feel treated like Im a threat or not a loving pet owner.. this couldnt be more untrue. 2) Dr. Belew(unlike Dr. Maxwell) requires an annual test in order to renew a prescription for heartworm meds. EVEN if the dog is healthy I have to take time off work and pay for a recommended test in order to get the medication my dog needs to protect her. FUN FACT: if its recommended its not required.. if the owner of the dog doesnt have a say over routine health concerns what happens when I have a major medical emergency? Will you insist on a treatment and then demand payment? I love my puppy more than anything but its wrong to demand an extortion fee for a routine preventative drug. This should be a conversation not an ultimatum. Why was I made to feel like a poor dog owner for not having the funds to pay for what is legitimately a luxury. Why am I prevented from buying a full year of meds in advance unless I have a super recent heartworm test on record? That treatment undermines the well-being of my pet and I find that extremely frustrating. There are other good vets in midtown.. dont bring your loved one to Union Hill.

The most amazing staff! They were understanding and patient with my doggo and gave me a lot of really helpful information and showed lots of love to her. We had a bad experience earlier in the day trying to get spayed at a different local clinic, shes a reactive pit bull and sounds aggressive even if she just wants attention so she barked uncontrollably and made the entire clinic, both people and dogs upset. It was so uncomfortable and the staff was so unwilling to work with us we had to just leave. Shes been through some recent traumas(having puppies, a tornado, and a big move) that resulted in some behavioral issues so it was frustrating to feel helpless and have people stare at us when I was trying the best I could to calm my dog in a very chaotic and stressful environment. The animal hospital took every step imaginable to keep my reactive pit calm, they got us back to a room immediately so she wouldnt see other dogs, and it was really great to see my baby at ease. She only briefly barked once and they handled it with grace. The environment was clean and relaxing with no bad smells and I will be back for her spay soon. Im really glad we found a better option. This is 5 star service!

I am Teresa Bradskey. My Shih Tzu had somehow gotten Ibuprofen and we had been at Bluepearl Emergency Vet Hospital in Blue Springs (I live mid-town) and was hospitalized for the night. He had to be watched and have a second night of observation with more blood tests and such in the event of kidney problems. Fortunately all worked out well. We transferred him from Bluepearl to Union Hill and Dr. Balew took care of him the second night. We had never met Dr. Balew and did not use Union Hill but we can assure you that with the tremendous care, kindness and full explanations of everything that had to occur, we now have a new vet. The staff was remarkable and most helpful and when I would call for updates or just to check, I was always treated like a "Mommy" and met with respect and concern. I would recommend them to anyone with complete confidence and pleasure.

I had just taken my cat Nibbles to see Dr. Belew a couple of weeks ago. After she listened to my concerns of my cat, she checked him out and told me that everything was just fine. I could tell she saw the look of worry on my face and she was very soothing to both myself and Nibbles. It was the third time I have taken Nibbles to Union Hill Animal Hospital, including getting his shots. This place has the nicest people working there. Dr. Belew always had a smile for both Nibbles and myself during our visits there. During our last visit, Dr. Belew complimented me on how well I was taking care of Nibbles. I had explained to her that I was following her suggestions of what to give Nibbles for his well-being. Dr. Belew made me really proud of myself, I have to admit. Thank you, Dr. Belew! Keep up the wonderful work you do!

Dr. Belew is the best!! We have followed her from her previous practice. It is a bit of a drive but well worth it. First, she treats each pet as if it is her own. When you call to speak with her you can tell that she actually knows who you are and your pet. With complicated problems ( which both of my dogs have ) Dr. Belew will give you all of the options. She takes cost into consideration. She does not push to have you spend the most money you can which some vets do knowing that people love their pets and will do most anything for them. Every time I have asked her opinion on what option we should chose in treating my pets she ends up being dead on right when other specialists recommended another treatment. She is an excellent vet who truly does what is right for her patients and their families.

I am new to the area and my poor dog Josie was experiencing some GI problems (including bloody stool) so I really wanted to get her to see a vet right away. When I called they didnt have any morning appointments, but offered a drop off service, which I thought was very convenient. When I dropped my dog off the technician that met with me was super nice and asked all the necessary questions. When I picked Josie up later in the day, Dr. Belew was also super nice and explained everything to me. She and the vets assistant did a great job going through how to administer the meds they prescribed. Plus, the cost of the visit was very reasonable, particularly since they saw me the same day. A fantastic experience - highly recommended!! (P.S. Josie seems all better now!)

Ive been bringing my dogs and cat to Union Hill Animal Hospital for over 15 years - I loved Dr. Maxwell and was concerned about who might replace him. Fortunately, Dr. Belew has been great! One of my elderly dogs was diagnosed with pre-congestive heart failure, and we were worried wed have to make a hard decision about his future when he took a turn for the worse. One of the techs, Hilary, actually drove to my house to help bring my dog in (he was 60+ pounds and in a lot of pain). Two days later, he left UHAH with a bunch of pills and a new outlook on life. Theres a couple other vets there who have also been awesome to work with as are the entire staff weve come in contact with. I would definitely not hesitate to recommend their services.

I just recently moved to the area and while I cant speak for other animal hospitals or veterinary clinics, I can say that Ill never have to find out if another one is good, because Union Hill Animal Hospital sold me from day one. The staff was friendly, but more than that they were open and honest about my dogs condition. They treated me and my animal with respect and genuinely made me feel like I wasnt just another client. They took the time to show care for my animal. It has been several weeks and my dogs condition is healing rapidly. They get five stars and Ive already recommended them to some of the people Ive come into contact with. You simply cant beat the hospitality, professionalism, openness, and quality care that they provide.
