2/24- In response... The only part I agree with is that it was an emotional time for me. Its never easy seeing someone you love in pain. My account was accurate from my perspective. I whole heartedly disagree with your plumber, electrician analogy. If I had a leak, called a plumber, and the plumber told me it would be 72 hours before he could do anything, I would find a new plumber. Also, a heads up from someone stating "hey we are about to close, in most emergency situations like this we recommend XX Emergency Vet. The best part was the referral you made. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE BEFORE YOU CHARGED ME! You and your staff knew you were close to your doors closin, yet still allowed for an emergency "consultation" Sounds a whole lot like "yeah lets take this guys money before we close". My second and BIGGEST issue... your advice. The icing on the cake was that you did inform me of an option to come in the next day, with NO GUARANTEE that the vet in that day could help. Then I asked you point blank... "Is it really ok to wait up to 3 days before this wound gets any medical attention?" and I knew the moment you responded I would never return. You said "yes".... are you kidding me? I could have fit a nickel into the gash that was about a quarter inch away from his eye lid. That is gross advice. I could understand a small cut in an area that wasnt as close to the eye as it was, but 3 days? come on, man, Even you cant really agree with that. Unless again, its all about the almighty dollar. Which is how I left your office feeling. Although I did appreciate the referral (I have used them in the past, but wanted to come to MY NEIGHBORHOOD VET FIRST), you certainly got your $70 consult with a big. come back in 3 days sales pitch on me though. I did not lie. I accounted the day the way it felt, what had happened, and the lack of empathy you showed me due to the way you handled that situation. #peace I moved to the South part of KC mid 2015, and this was the nearest vet clinic to my new place. The first experience i had was decent, although i felt the vet to be pretty rude, short, and bad at listening. It was just a routine appointment though and they seemed busy... Ill give them that. However this last weekend was the most repulsive vet experience i have ever had. I paid $70 for a 2 minute appointment just for the vet to give my dog dirty looks and be offended that he was in pain (my dog had a big gash under his eye that needed attention.), was told "leave the gaping cut untreated until our vet is available" which could have been up to 72 hours from that day, they were unwilling to do anything, and basically pushed me out the door so they could close. They could have told me when i showed up they werent available lor an emergency sitiation... But no... They charged me $70 to be rude and tell me they could help (in an emergency situation mind you) in 72 hours. Gross gross gross. I will never go back and i will diligently tell my friends with pets to avoid this place like the plague. Dr Carlson is the rude vet btw.

We had 3 Cats & 3 Dogs and had been seeing Dr. Ewert for a very long time until he retired. We now see Dr. Carlson and have been very satisfied with his demeanor and service with all 6 of our pets. Recently we lost one of our favorite small female older cats named Zoe, and Dr Carlson and his Vet Techs did everything they could to keep little Zoe going for as long as possible! Dr. Carlson and the Vet Techs also helped us make the "right" decision, at the "right" time, and helped the best they could to make it a less painful decision that we had to make because our baby Zoe had started suffering significantly. Its not an easy or pleasant decision one ever has to make about a beloved pet. But its an inevitably decision everyone has to eventually make if they choose to have pets. Ive had to make the decision before and its never easy! We chose to have little Zoe cremated and received her ashes in a small wooden beautifully engraved box. We also received a small heart-shaped plaque that had little Zoes pawprints and her name with some little hearts on the plaque. A few days after Zoe passed away we received a lovely card in the mail signed by all the Vet Techs and Dr. Carlson who all took care of Zoe which was extremely touching and a very kind thing for them to do. Its always nice to know that these people really do care about you and your pets. Especially when they only see your pets usually at their behavioral worst. Its been around 6 months since we lost our little Zoe Bear Cat and we still miss her horribly and continue to grieve the loss of this very uniquely fun, funny, & loving little cat. 2-3 months after Zoe was gone we also received another personal card from Dr. Carlson informing us that he had made a charitable donation in Zoes name to a pet research facility. Which confirmed to us that Zoe really was a special cat and Dr. Carlson was a very kind & thoughtful person and Vet too. Bottom line: Dr. Carlson is an excellent Veterinarian that will not cheat you, or unnecessarily charged you, or Over charge you. Dr. Carlson is a honest person who works a honest hard day of work everyday to earn his income rather than overcharging for unnecessary tests and sitting back surfing the Internet all day. We now have only 2 Cats and 3 Dogs all which are rescue pets we adopted and we fully trust Dr. Carlson will always take the utmost quality care of all our pets and will always do everything he can to keep them all healthy and happy. Which makes us healthy and happy. So, 4 big thumbs up to Hickman Mills Pet Hospital and all the staff from both of us!

I took my 7 yr old Doberman in with a bad case of kennel cough. I told them he has been hacking a nasty cough for over a week but now he stopped eating for 3 days. The vet said jokingly might be a good thing could lose a few pounds being a bit overweight. Not funny. The Dr seemed to brush him off not really examing him that well. Prescribed antibiotics and cough suppressant in pill form. I requested dont you have an injection a shot of antibiotics you can give him because this is serious. They said no thats the only medicine they can give him I knew I should have walked out right then but I didnt because I trusted the hospital in that they no more than me about this. Plus the first visit to the hospital went well. And then I asked so Im supposed to shove these pills down his throat even though he is not eating? They said yes or you can give them to him in treats and they even tried to upsell me on their treats they sell from the hospital. Getting the feeling that Im not being taken seriously I repeated that he is not eating at all I have tried treats and everything. So I walked out of there with pills hoping that the antibiotics would work quickly with the difficult task of administering them to him. My dog died 6 days later. The pills didnt work as I knew they wouldnt. I have been grieving very hard completely devastated. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
