Millis Animal Hospital is known for its walk-in policy for all services except surgeries. This means that pet owners can bring their pets at any time during working hours and expect to see a vet within a short waiting period, often less than ten minutes. The hospital aims to provide affordable veterinary care, emphasizing that pet owners shouldn't be financially burdened for being responsible caretakers.
The quality of veterinarians at Millis Animal Hospital seems to vary. While some vets are praised for their patience and skills, others have been criticized for lacking the expertise to handle sensitive or special-needs animals.
Front desk attendants are generally described as professional and courteous. However, there have been instances where the staff showed a lack of concern or accountability, especially when things went wrong, such as adverse reactions to vaccines.
Millis Animal Hospital is lauded for its reasonable pricing. Customers have mentioned that the cost of multiple services like blood tests, dental cleaning, and vaccinations is significantly lower compared to other veterinary hospitals in the area.
Opinions on the cleanliness of the hospital are divided. While some find it nice and clean, others have raised concerns about the hygiene standards, specifically mentioning the floors.
The hospital staff has been commended for their emotional support, especially during difficult times like euthanasia. They are described as understanding and give pet owners ample time to make decisions.
Positive: One customer mentioned that their older dog, who had a hard time at another hospital, had a smooth experience at Millis. The staff was compassionate about costs and allowed the pet owner to see the same doctor each time.
Negative: Another customer had a severe allergic reaction in their Dachshund after routine vaccines. The hospital's response was found to be lacking in concern and accountability.
Millis Animal Hospital offers a range of experiences, both positive and negative. While it scores high on affordability and a convenient walk-in policy, it has room for improvement in the quality of veterinary care and customer service.

Since adopting my dog five years ago I have moved across the country several times; from the east coast (greater DC area) to the midwest (Saint Louis) to the west (Colorado). As my dog is special-needs he has seen more than his fair share of vets, and Millis Animal Hospital is by far my all-time favorite. They do not make appointments except for surgeries: the policy is to simply bring your pet in at any time and they show you to the first available doctor: I have never had to wait more than ten minutes to see a vet even when the place is bustling. I have found all of the staff to be helpful, friendly, efficient, patient, honest and thorough when examining my dog. I heartily recommend any of the vets there (with possibly the exception of Dr Millis himself; personally I found him to be gruff and less friendly than the others - but this is just a personal preference and is not based on extensive dealings with him). Lastly, and certainly not least, Millis Animal Hospital is the cheapest vet I have ever found. They recently completed three blood tests, a dental cleaning, full round of vaccinations, and prescribed a years supply of heartworm pills for my dog --- all for about 1/2 of what it would have cost at any other St. Louis area vet and probably less than 1/4th of what a DC area vet would charge. The Millis philosophy seems to be that a pet owner shouldnt be charged through the nose if theyre trying to do the right thing and be a responsible, informed caretaker of their dogs and cats. I could not recommend this place more.

Nice and clean animal hospital not that far away from where we live. Front desk attendants are always professional and courteous. The real issue of this place is the quality of their vets, some are awesome, some arent. It really depends on who you see on certain days. For instance, some vets are more patience than the others. Its not a big deal if your pets are super friendly and like human beings. For our dog who was a rescued- we have had several bad experience with vets who did not have whatsoever skills managing sensitive dog such as ours. Im happy for those who have 5 stars experience with Millis so far, but we are definitely not one of them. If you are going on for regular checkups and shots, by all mean this isnt a bad place to be. But if your babe pets are sensitive and need special care, you may want to think twice.

Started taking our older dog last year.. Had used Webster Animal hospital in the past--night and day difference. Our dog older, when we took to WAH for nail trim, they came back, said they had to put him under to get it done...he wheezed for weeks after anesthesia. Next time, took him to Millis, they took him back, and boom! Came back with him saying he did great giving me a treat! Not a dog factory like WAH, whos main goal is to sell their dogfood telling all that their pets are overweight and its luck of the draw what doc you see. Millis people are super nice, you can see same doc each time if you want, compassionate about costs etc. Sadly, had to take the old guy back for his last trip, they couldnt have been more supportive and understanding.

Our Dachshund had a severe alergic reaction the first time we went to Millis for the routine vaccines shes been getting elsewhere for years without issue. We ended up spending the evening afterwards at am emergency clinic getting her more shots to combat the reaction. We were told that she could have died and that we needed to tell Millis what had happened as soon as possible in case they had gotten a bad batch of vaccine. When we called Millis and relayed what happened, the office lady said quote, "And were supposed to do what about this?" No concern or accountability whatsoever. She clearly considered the call nothing but an inconvenience to her which we found seriously disturbing.

Dr. Larry Millis was a great vet when we had to make the tough decision to put down our sweet Vito. He explained all of our options and left the choice up to me without being pushy. He went over the risks and costs of each option. His staff was extremely kind and gave us as much time as we wanted to spend before moving forward with euthanasia. I would highly recommend Millis for veterinary care. Their rates are reasonable and the fact they accept walk-ins only makes it much easier to get to their office when convenient for me. We have permanently switched vets for our other two dogs and will continue to use Millis in the future.

Inexperienced and unclean - Dont look at the floors! A sample of urine was taken from my cat and examined under a microscope and found to contain bacteria. It was sent off to a lab for further testing. The lab found no bacteria. Due to the inconsistency, one would imagine they would run the tests again for free since there was an obvious error. They wanted to charge for the tests again. When a business makes a mistake they should correct said mistake at their expense. I would have remained a customer had they been more reasonable and perhaps cleaned the caked grime off of the floors.

I have been bringing my many cats and dogs to Millis Animal Hospital for over 16 years, and they have been awesome in EVERY capacity. From routine vaccinations, spaying, surgeries, emergencies, and the hardest trips, euthanasia, they are the most wonderful group of people. I have recently moved to New Jersey from St Louis, and am having a tremendously hard time finding a place as accomodating, caring and AFFORDABLE as Millis. Wish they had a chain of hospitals stretching to the East! Many Thanks to you all, and keep up the GREAT work!

Have been going to Milllis since 1980; no appointment necessary. extremely professional; these Millis vets are all the same...extremely profession; doesnt matter whom you see. Brought my puppys there. Said "goodbye" to old friends there...was very distraught and they thoroughly understood... They go through the life cycle with pets as well as their owners. very justifiable and reasonable charges. Head of front desk calls everyone by name without looking up files. Cannot recommend more highly, obviously.

I asked that they fax shot records for my dog to my groomer. I asked a day in advance giving them plenty of time to send the records over. Im now sitting at the groomer to drop my dog off for her appointment before running some other errands. No shot records were sent, so now I have to decide do I drive 20 minutes home to put my pet back or leave her in the car while I run errands. Thanks for nothing, Millis.

My family has been taking our cats and dog to Millis for nearly 20 years, and theyve proven to be the most kind, attentive, accessible, and practical vets weve had for these pets. Several of the veterinarians have on various occasions gone out of their way to check on the animals (and our own) welfare, even when away from the office.

Very professional, quick, and easy. Called ahead to set up an appointment as was told it wasnt necessary. Within 3 minutes of filling out the minimal paperwork I was seen by a vet. The price was far less than I feared and incredibly reasonable. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. 10/10 would recommend.
