Recently we took both of our dogs in to VCA for a seemingly first time routine $300.00 teeth cleaning, nail trim, and expression of anal glands. After wards when taking them home we noticed that one of them was whimpering and had his tail between his legs. At first we thought the whimpering was a side effect from the anesthesia for the teeth cleaning. However, the whimpering continued throughout the weekend, his tail stayed between his legs, and his back end was extremely sensitive to touch - to the point where he nipped at us if we tryed to touch his back side. His back side also quivered periodically. We took him back to VCA early Monday a.m. and explained what had been happening. They had to sedate him to check his back side because he was so sensitive. Suspecting that something may have gone wrong during the expression of the anal glands, they checked the glands and found no abnormalities. In the process, they found that he had bruising under his tail. His tail and abdomen were x-rayed and there were no indications of a blockage, break, or fracture. They expressed that he could have slipped/fallen hard on to his back side and potentially jammed his tail. He was placed on 10-day dosages of pain pills and anti-inflammatories. We were presented with a bill for $407.55. VCA took absolutely no responsibility for the injury to our dog. We strongly believe the injury occurred under their care during the routine teeth cleaning/sedation four days prior to Mondays visit. We had been a client at VCA for over 10 years with several pets and several thousand dollars of care. They offered us no other options but to pay the $407.55 for the exam, sedation, x-rays, and medication. We have transferred to a privately owned clinic that is not managed by VCA.

We have gone to VCA for years. They took care of our dog and our cat, and weve always liked the doctors and how quickly they could get us in in an emergency. We recently had to put our cat to sleep, and they were very kind and supportive while we were there. We decided that we did not want to be there when they put our cat to sleep, so we said our goodbyes and left. Over two hours later, the office called us to tell us that because we mentioned our cat had bit a member of our family, they hadnt put him down. We had spent two hours grieving and then got a call where they told us that we would either have to come back to pick up our cat, who was still alive, to have him home for 10 days or they would euthanize him and we could pick his body to take him to the Humane Society for a less expensive rabies test. At first, I didnt even understand what this meant...that our cat was still alive, presumably scared and confused. Fortunately, the bite didnt break skin and we could tell the doctor, so they were able to put him down, but this was extremely traumatic for our family, especially the guilt we already felt for not being able to be present for the procedure.

I was extremely offended by the vet. I adopted an 11yr old cat from the humane society which I brought into this clinic within the first week of adopting him and also again this past week at about the time Ive had him a year for his annual exam and vaccines that werent due till end of month. My cat was diagnosed with stomatitis and the vet treated me as if I just let him suffer. He had not been acting weird or eating less but she came in saying he lost 2lbs and shocked I wouldnt know...I dont weigh my cat every day and Im sorry I didnt notice 2lbs over an entire year. I adopted a cat who is considered a senior and I took him in when needed so you should never treat a pet owner like this and make them feel horrible. Trust me already do feel horrible that I didnt know this was going on!! I found another vet to treat my cat and I wont be coming back. I hope next time they arent so quick to pass judgement on someone especially someone who has gone out of their way to adopt a cat that most people wouldnt think twice about since everyone wants kittens! Oh and this was after sitting in a room waiting 40min and the additional 10 for arriving early like I was asked to.

The only reason I would give this clinic 4 stars is because of Dr. Cory. I have used Dr. Cory for many years, since the 1990s, and he is an excellent vet. I used to work with him so I know how he is behind the scenes as well and he takes great care of his patients. He is very knowledgeable and is caring and takes time to talk to the pets owners and explains things. I recently had to switch offices because I can no longer afford to go there since VCA took over the clinic. The prices sky rocketed and are twice as much as where I go now. Not Dr. Corys fault, but regardless the corporation makes it difficult for a normal person to care for their animals....... I wish they actually cared more about the animals then the money, but they dont.... being a corporation like they are they would let your pet die right in front of you If you didnt have the money right there and then to pay for it.... Makes me sad I have to lose out on a Great Vet as Dr. Cory is, but I just cant afford it.

DO NOT take your animals to the VCA on 84th & Dodge unless there is ABSOLUTELY no other choice in the entire world. I took my cat in for a simple checkup and first shots. Made an appointment and arrived early. Told there was a few emergencies--ushered to room at 7:00pm and then sat there for 45 minutes waiting for anyone to show up again. I finally left without getting the service. I walked out of the room and was ignored by everyone there--this is the most disorganized and unprofessional vet I have ever been to and I will never go back. They are more concerned with the transaction then with being up front with their clients--if there are emergencies, fine--but let your customers know it could be well over an hour before they get in--at least the customer can make the choice to stay or leave. Very unprofessional and total disregard for anything but making a sale.

I took my dog here, dying, due to intestinal blockage. He was literally not moving. They did emergency, exploratory surgery to check his intestines, after close on a Saturday. After the initial surgery, they found foreign objects in his intestine, stuck and slicing his tract. They spent 4 more hours removing 2 feet of intestine and reattaching the severed intestine. All after close, I might add. Another day, and he would have been dead. It is over a year later, and my dog, a 90 pound pitbull, has absolutely no issues with his digestive system. He is healthy and full of life. I owe these people a debt of gratitude and my dog owes them his life. I continue to take both my dogs here and will never ever go anywhere else ever again. If you afford it, take your dogs here. You will be treated incredibly well, and your dogs even better.
