I had heard an seen Dr. Downie on several shows for a few years, I even remember when she refused to even take health insurance, only self pay for the visits and they were NOT cheap! So I tried looking her up again last year and saw that her practice takes insurance coverage, not all but some. So I made an appointmnt for my teenage daughter and myself. I suffer from eczema and know what works for my skin so I really justed needed a new script and my daughter has acne. First off, I had to pay copays for each of us, total was $80! Then we saw her physician assistant who I might add was very pushy, not a woman of color which is part of the reason I chose Dr. Downie feeling like she would be more intune with our skin and how we could treat our issues, especially my daughter. We had previously been to other doctors and to no avail getting no correct help. I had to really be vocal about wanting to see the "actual doctor" not her assistant, we were made to wait and when she finally came in she was a bit abrupt and rude. Told me I needed to lose weight in my problem areas which at the time I was only a slightly overweight for my height & size. Performed some erragation on my daughters face which she charged my insurance an exbordtant amount!! That I ended up having to still pay more for the procedures she claimed she did b/c the insurance wouldnt cover it all. The medications & instructions given to my (13-14 yrs old) daughter for the acne barely worked and were far too many for a teenager to keep up with on a daily basis. I waited several years to visit her and was very disappointed!! I would not recommend a regular non celebrity person to go to her, and its a shame because there are NOT many dermatologists of color in NJ. She needs to not be selective on what patients SHE will ACTUALLY see, as all are important! Not pawn them off on her physcian assistant. If patients wanted to see the assistant they would make an appointment with her. I hope Dr. Downie improves. Wish I had something better to say about our experiecence.

I have been going to Image Dermatology since 2012 and do not trust anyone else besides Dr. Downie with my skin! Leading up to going to see Dr. Downie in 2012, my acne was so bad it was affecting my self-esteem and I was embarrassed about the state of my skin. I went to see two other dermatologists before her and the problem was not getting better. When I went to see Dr. Downie, she took my acne very seriously and came up with a plan to remediate it ASAP. She gave me medications and put me on a series of chemical peels. I could not believe how fast my skin cleared up after having the peels. I went to see her in the summer and by the fall my skin was magnitudes better. People would start to complement me on my skin and when I showed them the before pictures they usually could not believe I had acne previously. I still get acne breakouts occasionally, but when I do I always know Dr. Downie will take care of me. She has consistently taken my skin concerns very seriously over the years and I fully trust her. The chemical peels really have made so much difference in my skin. I get the peel once or twice a year now when I can afford it and love the results. Some of the other reviews says she tries to sell products, but I do not believe she would recommend a product/procedure if she didn’t think it would help you. Once you try the products you will realize they work and are worth the money. I wish I could say they don’t work and save yourself the money, but from my experience I spend more money trying cheaper options that end up don’t working. Also, if you are time sensitive, I would recommend trying to get an appointment first thing in the morning.

Dr. Downie is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! She saved me ONE WEEK before my WEDDING! I received an IPL photofacial (intense pulsed light) from a small med spa and the Doctor using the laser BURNED my FACE!!! I had a huge burn mark under my left eye, (which Dr. Downie diagnosed as a 1st to 2nd degree burn), which had began scabbing over. I was so nervous since my Wedding was only 2 weeks away at this point and I found Dr. Downie online. I called her office and they mentioned she was booked until the end of May, (meanwhile my Wedding is May 20th). I explained to the staff my situation, what had happened and that my wedding was only two weeks away and they put me on hold, came back and said we will fit you in, come this Friday! So two weeks before my wedding I met with Dr. Downie, she immediately knew what to do and had me get a sensitive skin face wash, a face lotion, a moisturizer with SPF, a liquid bandaid treatment, and a burn treatment. She gave me tons of advice and information about my skin and was so sweet. She put me at ease, at a time when I was already stressed out. One week later I went back for a check up with Dr. Downie because she wanted to ensure her plan had worked and my scab was completely GONE, not only was the scab gone, but there was hardly even a spot that anyone would ever be able to tell I was burned by a laser. I cant thank Dr. Downie enough, I am officially a patient for life!

So I called for an appt to see Dr Downie but I was told on that day it wld be her Asst which is fine. But I did request that Dr Downie at least wld stop in. On the day of my appt I pointed out that I had my acne issue for the past four months and the meds I got havent been working, so I was willing to try another doc. I was told about accutaine and I loved it! The Asst then suggest I get a Chem peel cos it wld shed the dark areas on my face. She claim to have given me the most advanced peel they had and was told within two or so day it wld peel my skin. That did not happened so I called to voice my concern and was given the song and dance story about that maybe I need to try a stronger peel and this and that a whole bunch of nonsense. Needless to say I was told the doc was out for a week so is the office mgr however Dr Downie called me back and sure enough she was in the office that they claim she wasnt. Anyways its safe to say I wont be going bck there I paid $225 for nothing.. And if I go to a doc office to see the doc then thats who I want to see. I was very disappointed in my whole interaction with this office

I met Dr. Downie over two years ago. Never having visited a dermatologist before, I prepared a list of issues and questions. While creating my file, her assistant softly suggested that Dr. Downie may not be able to review everything with me that day. I understood and tried to prioritize. Dr. Downie entered the room with a huge smile, lovely, warm greeting and we proceeded to review EVERY DETAIL of my list and MORE questions that SHE wanted to make certain we covered. I left with a fist full of creams, ointments, oils, balms and prescriptions. EVERY product performed beautifully. When I shared the visit and prescriptions with my primary physician he complimented how advanced and sophisticated her recommendations were. I have sent her numerous patients(friends and family) all with the same high praise for her manner, skills and ability to specifically treat their needs. Dr. Downie is an outstanding physician but, more importantly a woman who brings a genuine concern and empathy for her patients to her practice. Thanks to you and your staff for taking care of me and the ones I love.
