I was very optimistic about using this dentist after reading all of the positive reviews. Everyone was very friendly and the facility was very clean with fun beach-theme decor. I was told they "have a lot of experience working with kids with autism" when booking our appointment. Though our oldest doesnt have an autism diagnosis he has some significant sensory issues often seen with autism and a developmental language disorder. I stressed the things i knew hed struggle with when booking the appointment and again before the appointment while we were filing out paperwork. We tried preparing him for the appointment by "playing dentist" at home and hoped for the best because he was having a really good morning. He ended up being very sensory overloaded with all the decor and toys and we spent more time filling out paperwork than the combined time the assistant and dentist spent with BOTH of our children. The baby has "stranger danger" so we just cruised him through it quick and he was over the whole thing very quickly. But that same approach, quickly forcing a large toddler with the issues ours faces is not a good approach at all. He never got any time to warm up to people or feel comfortable. We tried to get his teeth checked first but he started getting extremely anxious and panicky so we moved onto the youngest, that was over quickly and i asked the doctor if he wanted to try to quickly peek at the toddlers teeth (again, the time we actually spent with any staff for their appointments was very, very minimal at this point) we were told they didnt have time to look because they had other patients. We were extremely disappointed. Though everyone was friendly, nothing about this experience showed us they have "a lot of experience" working with kids with autism/sensory issues. If we wouldve just held him down and forced the exam/ cleaning on him in that situation (which is the only thing they suggested or offered to try), it wouldve taken him days to "recover". This might sound silly or overbearing to people whose kids are fortunate enough to not struggle with these issues but, other families who are in similar situations will understand. Im bummed they at least didnt book us for a little bit of an extended appointment time (even if we had to pay more) to try to help him have a good experience. Maybe for "typical" kids like our youngest, this place would be wonderful. The only other issue we had was the policy you had to sign that said once a child is 4 years old, a parent isnt allowed to be in the room with him/her during the exam.... thats probably fine for a child whos been seeing those familiar faces their whole life but for someone new to town with a child affected with autism or sensory issues, thats not something someone with experience with these disorders would recommend. But, they dont adjust that policy on a case by case basis...

Both my kids (2 and 5) have been going there the past 3 years! The staff has always been helpful, informative and extremely friendly, exactly what we like in any medical practice we go to. My 5 year old has behavioral and sensory issues and Dr. Chad has always been great with keeping her comfortable. She had teeth extracted before and after that I was sure she would be traumatized but with the help of Dr. Chad and his staff she quickly bounced back and loves the dentist aging and looks forward to going! My son who is 2 has many dental problems. He recently went under quite a bit of dental work, which we decided to go through the hospital to help get better looks at the overall picture as well as the work that needed to be done. It was a hard decision deciding to have him go under, but Dr. Chad made me very comfortable with him doing it, and I was able to go back with him until he was asleep. Weve had two dental emergencies and both time they have been able to get us in quickly within the same day. The office is extremely clean and fun for all ages. I would HIGHLY recommend them!

My son and daughter have been patients of both Dr. Mikala and Dr. Chad for several years. The kids LOVE going to the dentist because of their experiences there! They make their first experiences at the dentist very comforting and fun- you notice right away that all of the staff members are specifically trained in dealing with small children. They have always been so patient and calming even with my overactive and sometimes emotional son. The doctors have been very responsive to any concerns and even dental emergencies outside of office hours. I would highly recommend either doctor to anyone- my kids find it is a treat to go there and the environment is great! Also fun perks like tons of books and toys in the waiting area, fun artwork for the kids to look at, and No Cavity Club with monthly drawings. I have also noticed they are philanthropic and actively involved in the community.

My daughter and I had a wonderful experiece with Dakota Pediatric Dentistry! We got referred as she couldnt get office work done at our family dentist, I was nervous.. The team was exteremly reassuring. Dr. Mikala & Abby helped make Avalons experience calming and even played with her while I got her scheduled for getting her teeth fixed, and May I say I was supposed to be scheduled out passed march and my daughter may or may not have suffered with some soar cavities.. but, this wonderful woman (cant remember her name) made some phone calls to Avalons doctor to get her seen that day for pre-op and she got 6 crowns and a couple fillings the next morning at 545 we left there by 10am and Avalon was running around, eating normal and acting so much more happier by 2p. I couldnt be more suprised, and happy about this first time visit. Thank you all at DPD! :) Kaylee Helgeson

My 2 year old daughter struggled with brushing her teeth. It was more terrifying when we found she had 4 cavities.. we were referred by her pediatric physician at Sanford to be "thee best" for our daughter. We made our appt and assumed the dentist would look at her teeth, and wed have to wait 4 more months and our daughter would end up suffering with her soar mouth. Dr. Mikala Hoge and the wonderful staff that worked Thursday, January 19th helped my daughter get schuled for getting crowns and fillings the next morning!! They made it happen so she wouldnt have any problems at all, they were so reassuring for me as a young parent and explained everything so thoroughly to my daughter so she was comfortable and not scared for one second. Definantely recommend them to anyone as my 2 year olds pediatric physician at Sanford childrens did as well! :)

August, 2016 I had the pleasure of accompanying my daughter and granddaughters recently to their appt. at the Dakota Pediatric Dentistry office in Fargo. I was very impressed. The office is decorated very cute for kids, and the staff were all so friendly and nice. My granddaughters were a little fearful about going to the dentist, but once we got there and were greeted by the wonderful people who work there, their fear went away. I would recommend Dakota Pediatric Dentistry in Fargo to all parents with children when its time to see a dentist. They are great!

I called to schedule appointments for my 2 and 4 year old children. I told them that I did not want X-rays done at this time as we currently dont have dental insurance but will be getting it in about 6 months. I was then informed that I should call other offices because not doing X-rays on 4 yr olds is against there philosophy. So dont expect Dakota pediatric dentistry to be flexible or work with you in anyway. Its their way or the highway.
