About a year ago we welcomed a 7 week old white boxer into our family and Big Creek Vet came highly recommended. Upon our first visit we brought to the attention of Mr. Percival that our dog was showing blood when urinating. We went through a series of testing which showed our dog had a urinary tract infection as well as crystals in his urine. At that time he was put on a round of antibiotics and we were told to come back in 2 weeks to recheck his urine. We were advised that crystals in urine of a dog this young was not common and could be very dangerous to the dog if the problem is not resolved. Unfortunatly at the 2 week check up we were told the crystals were still present in his urine but he was no longer showing a UTI. Our now 9 week old puppy was put on a new (rather expensive) food to hopefully help clear up the crystals in his urine and were advised to come back in a month. Our next visit a month later was where I am very disheartened by the care we recieved......the crystals were still present and as a "last resort" we were recommended yet another type of food. We were also told that our puppy would probably not live. The vet told us a story about how he and his wife had to put down their 5 month old puppy some time back and he never saw his wife cry so hard and apologized to us repeatedly, understanding our pain. He was telling us this because he believed there was nothing they could do (within cost effective reason) to help this puppy rid the crystals in his urine. We asked why not another round of antibiotics and we were told the UTI was no longer present and the crystals in the urine of such a young pup can be fatal. We left this appointment very sad, having to come home and tell our children that our puppy may not live. At that point we decided to take our puppy elsewhere for a second opinion. We had spent over $1,000 in Hills CD and SD food, antibiotics, office visit costs and puppy shots already and were no further ahead than our first visit there. At our first appointment at the new vet we were advised our puppy had a "raging UTI" and would need to be hit very hard with a couple rounds of antibiotics to clear this up. There were no crystals present in the puppys urine either. Also, the food we had spend over $1,000 on at the previous vet was NOT a good food for a puppy his age to be on and we needed to ween him off of it right away! 2 rounds of antibiotics later our puppy was UTI free and healthy as can be. We even agreed to an x-ray to make sure kidney stones were not present, which came out negative thankfully. I cannot believe that a reputable vet would milk someone for so much money and not know the real reason for the dogs blood in the urine. Thank god we went for a second opinion!!!! Our puppy is healthy as can be and a year and a half old now and hasnt had any other issues whatsoever! I would not recommend Big Creek to ANYONE!!! Money is their main concern, not the well being of animals and by reading some of the other reviews, many agree with me! ------ Brian and Shannon

If i can even save one dog this was worth it. Very disappointed in this place. The people are really friendly and the facility is very clean although i DO NOT recommend them to ANYONE. I HAD (key word) a husky (almost 4 years old) get so dizzy on a walk he had to lay down. So i took him to big creek after reading these bullshit reviews with everyone raving about them. Got a full examination of the dog and he checked out. So they recommended a steroid for his stomach and i went along with the DRs request. Less than 3 weeks after this visit my dog began having seizures (never had them before). I take him back to big creek spend over $2,000 in 2 months on monthly blood tests, medication ect just to maintain his health and stop the seizures. About 2 months after these seizures my poor dog could not handle the toll these seizures were putting on him. On his last weekend i called the vet on a Saturday to explain that my dog wasnt doing well and that i wasnt sure if he was going to make it. The vet didnt seem all too worried and said if he isnt better by Monday bring him in. Monday morning rolls around its 6am Im waiting for the vet to open so i can leave the house and this is when i watched my poor pup take his last breathes at 4 years and 6 days old.....I never got an explanation for why or what may have caused any of his issues. I actually didnt even get a call from this vet even thought they were expecting me that day and its been over 4 months since my dog passed. This is a piss poor facility that DOES NOT give a damn about you or your furry family. VERY VERY disappointed in this place i wouldnt give them a single star.

I hesistated for a while on writting this review, but if it helps even one dog i know it was worth it. Upon a yearly check up on my 12 year old beagle, the vet suggested that he take him to the backroom, he would not let me come with him, which i found strange but trusted the vet. Horrible decision. When my dog came out he was noticably upset and scared. The vet expalined that my dog was "out of control" and he had to back in him into a corner use a muzzle on him. I found this odd because my dog is very gentle, loving. I later talked to the owner about this, the vet i saw had pre-warned him before my arrival he suggested that from now on i suggest only him ( the owner) to see my dog. The next day i recieved a call from the dog warden explaining that a dog bite had been reported on my dog. Furious, i called the owner again. No one had reported a dog bite to me or him ( the owner). He tried to offer me a free vet visit. No thank you. I WILL NEVER TAKE MY DOG TO A PLACE WHERE HE WILL BE ABUSED AND WHERE I WILL BE LIED TO.

I had my 4 year old lab mix treated for lymphoma from this practice. I was given the impression from a test in which I paid $200 for that the cells were "good" cells and that she could undergo a chemo treatment that would result in perhaps a year of remission. Sounded good to me, so I went ahead for the chemo. She received one chemo capsule and I had to pay upfront for the whole protocol; $360. Long story short, she had to be put down before her 2nd treatment could occur. I asked for a credit towards the $360, but they refused. The one capsule ended up costing $360! I realize the pills were a special order for her weight, etc., but I cant help but believe they couldnt eat part of the cost for the $ I spent while she was being treated for the disease, such as an overnight stay, blood tests, etc. I have decided to go elsewhere and have my remaining dog treated. Oh, and they charged me $260 for a cremation and euthanasia and her ashes wont be ready for another week! I am utterly disappointed and disgusted.
