DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE! CAGES & TICKS...I have never written a yelp post but dont want any other dog owners to experience what I did. I am new to Orlando & did a lot of research to find a good place to take my 14 year old Weimaraner while traveling out for work for 8 days. I was referred over by Canine Country Club & I called a few days before I had to travel & asked a lot of questions about the conditions & if there were cages or kennels of any kind because my dog will hurt herself on anything resembling a cage/crate/kennel. I was assured on the phone that they had rooms with doors for the dogs & no cages or crates, etc. I dropped my dog off to a horrific smell in the lobby. I thought an animal may have had an accident & the smell had not dissipated. Having multiple animals over the years, I have had many vet office visits so I gave them the benefit of the doubt (mistake). I called during the week to check on my girl & they said she had scraped her nose on the door and were treating it with cream. I figured that they had cages but at that point, what was I supposed to do 2,000 miles away with no one I know locally to go get her. I picked her up today & was greeted by the same stench that I experienced when dropping her off, which tells me that it wasnt just an accident but rather a cleanliness problem. I asked the front desk person if they had cages & she said yes. I told her about the conversation I had with the person on the phone prior to making the reservation & she wasnt sure who told me they had rooms & was very apologetic. I was nice as it wasnt her fault that I was lied to. I was charged $28 for a bath which seemed a little high (not so sure on that since we usually bathe her at home). The girl that brought my Bailee dog out told me she had numerous ticks on her that they noticed when bathing her. She explained that most were small but there was one big one & they took them off which explained the bloody marks on her. I live in a condo community so my dog is only out on leash & I get in the floor & give her daily pets multiple times a day so I know for a fact that she did not go into this place with ticks on her. She got them at this facility & I told the girl that. She seemed less than phased by this & said that they COULD check the other dogs. This might be a good place for vet care but not for boarding for my dog.

EDIT: After my crappy experience a year ago, I had an even more horrible time during my last visit. This involved an incompetent vet tech fishing for a vein in my dogs leg, leaving her with possible nerve damage (per my new vet) which she licked non-stop for months. I also arrived on time for my appointment and had to sit in the waiting room for at least 20 minutes with NO ONE else there. I even gave super-slow invoice woman a head start this time and waited comfortably in the room for her to do her job at her own pace, but she sat there and waited until I was standing in front of her with my hands full to start her super-slow process! So sad because the vets are really nice but the techs and office employees just suck! ______ Let me start by saying that the vets I have seen are very nice and helpful. However, the last time I visited, they took my dog into the back for at least 15 minutes to do some of their work, which for some reason helps them when they are busy - I cant stand the idea. And check-out is always so slow, usually with other people and dogs waiting (and who knows which dogs are sick?) - there has got to be a better way! Operationally, I would suggest getting the invoicing done before beckoning a client up to the counter to pay (or better yet, replace the position with a few iPads and mobile credit card machines), requesting that any redundant (i.e. address) paperwork be filled out while waiting in the back rooms instead of the awful waiting room, and having enough staff on a Saturday administer routine vaccines for scheduled appointments. Also, how about reserving a room for each appointment made - to be available at just about that very time! Novel ideas here, seriously. This is not hard!

I met Dr. Smith and Dr. Raulerson while I was fostering for a local pet rescue. I was so impressed with both of them, and unimpressed with my current vet, that I moved all three of my personal dogs to them. It was the best decision I have made, concerning vet care. The thing I like the most about these vets is that they are so compassionate and caring. Every time I take one of my dogs there, I always feel like they really care about the animals rather than the money I am generating. The other thing that I love about these vets and that I think is very rare, is that they will actually talk to me on the phone when I call. My other vet would say the vet will call you at the end of the day and he never did. With AHVL, they take my calls and are more than willing to answer any questions I might have or give me some advice. In regards to the person who was frustrated because the vet didnt return the phone call. You need to establish a relationship with a vet, just like you do a doctor. Many vets, as well as doctors, are reluctant to give advice over the phone when they have never met your animal and dont know anything about their history. If I were you, I would have made an appointment with the vet so they could have met the dog and properly diagnosed the problem.

RUN AND DONT LOOK BACK. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY. First time I visited Dr Adams told me what Im going to pay and didnt bother to even look at my dogs rash. I had to remind her to do what she was charging me for. This time I came back with my dogs hurt foot and they did their exam and gave antibiotics, I needed to change bandage 2 days later after paying over 220 dollars and they wanted to charge me all over again for exams. Even after already giving me an estimate that was much lower to replace bandage. Their excuse was that its a different doctor! WHO CARES? YOU ALREADY DID THE EXAM 2 DAYS BEFORE NOTHING CHANGED. So to honor their OWN estimated price they said the doctor will look at my dog but I cant speak to the doctor but only with the tech unless I pay more... THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. I asked if they were joking. I dont care about the price difference, their demands are totally immoral and they should be ashamed. Good riddance.

As a business owner of a dog boarding and day care facility, Animal Hospital at Vista Lakes is extremely accommodating in providing fast, friendly and professional service for the doggy guests in our care needing any veterinary services. Whether our doggy guests are current clients of AHVL or not, the doctors and staff always help. They are always available to talk to the clients and my staff. Veterinary care is an expense and a service, and as a business owner, I know vet care is also a business, and I respect their costs and charges. Dr. John has been a mainstay there and I always look forward to his expertise and advice!
