Our experience at this Companion location was excellent. During a routine trip to a mobile vaccination clinic, it was discovered that my 3yr. old Pug had three baby teeth that never fell out and needed to be pulled to prevent future problem. I was pretty stressed to hear this, as my whole reason for taking my pup to a "mobile" vaccine clinic is that Im a broke college student. I panicked at the thought of the price tag for doggy-dentistry, but you know, anything for my fur-baby. So I started by calling the Companion closest to my house. They could not quote me a price over the phone but they did say that I could get my dog seen for a very inexpensive "consultation" that very day. We arrived at fairly plain looking but busy office and were checked in quickly. We were seen by Dr. Alford within about 10 minutes of arrival. I was extremely impressed by the very thorough examination my pug received from Dr. Alford. I mean, we just came in to have his teeth looked at but the vet checked him out so well, we knew nothing would be overlooked. Also, my mom (or Grandma as my pup knows her) decided to tag along with us to the appointment. To put it nicely, my mom likes to be an informed consumer i.e. she always asks a million questions. Dr. Alford was completely patient and took the time to answer each and every one of her questions. He was also very patient with my pup, who hates having his mouth or paws touched in any way. The doctor took his time and was very gentle with him. By the time we left the exam room, I had absolute faith in Dr. Alfords veterinary expertise. When we went to the front desk for the estimate, I just about fainted because the price was so LOW! It was literally one-fifth of what I was expecting :) Even better, they could fit him in for the procedure THAT DAY! I handed him over to an amazingly kind and compassionate nurse (is that what theyre called in the veterinary world??) who gently soothed my pups separation anxiety. A couple of hours later, I came and picked up my morphine-sleepy little boy - no longer with those three bothersome extra teeth. I got easy-to-follow post-procedure care instructions, a very modest bill, and they even took advantage of his morphine-relaxed state and trimmed his nails (which he hates and is normally loathsomely difficult) for FREE! Our experience with Dr. Alford at Companion exceeded expectation at every point. I cannot say enough good about this doctor and his clinic/staff. My pup and I have found his veterinarian for life!

This place was a joke. Wife called a few days before we went to verify prices on some basic shots, which were considerably lower than most places. We just needed some annual boosters. Obviously, this is a budget clinic. Which is fine. But, she had said she was going to come in on Monday (Presidents Day) and wanted to make sure they were open. She was going to make an appointment. She was told they were just a walk in clinic. Great. We show up on Monday at 1:30 to find out theyre on lunch from 1pm - 2:30pm. Nothing on their website about this. None of the staff informed us ahead of time. So...we wait an hour. They open, and were the 2nd to check in. We sat in the waiting room with 2 cats and a dog until 4pm...and then we left. Almost everyone we originally checked in with had been seen. When we walked out, there was a staff member on the computer. Im carrying two carriers with my cats....my wife in tow with our dog....and still nothing. She wouldnt have even known (cared) we were leaving had my wife not said anything. During that span of almost 3 hours waiting, multiple people came in and complained about the poor communication and poor service. During that time, not one staff member said a word to us. Sorry about the wait....just a few more minutes....nothing. During that time, I watched them call other people and walk their pets to the scale. Some animals were helped onto the scale. Others were literally dragged onto the scale by the leash. Im sure when you work there day in and day out, you lose a little of that sensitivity and compassion for the pet and for the owner. For the savings, I was ALMOST willing to overlook all this. But, I took one look at my animals and told myself....theyre worth more than this. Three hours in a carrier....sitting on the floor. And not two words from the staff. This place felt cold and could obviously care less about your business. Im happy for those of you who have had positive experiences and I hope you and your pet continue to have great experiences. And I read the reviews. Theres one review of someone who took offense to the other negative reviews and decided to defend the clinic, even going as far to say the doctor deserved a BJ. I mean...seriously? These are the people coming to this clinic. Clinics should be professional, inviting, warm....this place struck out on all 3. You get what you pay for. My pets and my time are worth more.

My dog is dead because of Dr. Johnson, who is neglectful and incompetent. I took my dog here 2 days in a row and called the third day to make sure Dr. Johnson knew my dog still wasnt doing well. A very long story short my dog experienced hind leg weakness the 1st day I took him to companion Pet clinic, the 2nd day was paralyzed from the waist down and lost control over his bowels. Dr Johnson did an xray the first day which showed everything looked normal. He kept telling me to go home and wait both visits that my dog would get better in time. The 3rd day I called and told him Tucker was worse and still in excruciating pain. Once again i was told to wait. The next day my dogs condition/pain was too much for me to watch so I took him to the emergency veterinarian down the road. The emergency vet knew right away that Tucker was paralyzed for life and needed surgery immediately. She also told me that any dog that becomes paralyzed needs to have surgery within 24 hours if they are to walk again. I agreed to do the surgery since my dog was young and this was a sudden devastating situation, I wasnt ready to lose my dog. Once she performed an MRI (which should have been done immediately after becoming paralyzed) she could see that since we had been helping my dog to go potty outside and moved him around that we had even further injured his back so severely that his spine was inoperable. I had to put my dog down that night. The part that I can not forgive is my dog would still be alive had Dr Johnson just said I dont know lets consult a specialist who does know what they are doing. Instead my 2 and half year old dog was put down. I went from a healthy happy dog 4 days prior to euthanizing him. Then to top it off I didnt get an apology from the clinic or vet. I didnt get were sorry for your loss. They avoided all my attempts to contact them and make the situation right. Do yourself a favor and take your pet just done the road to the VCA where they have great doctors who know what they are doing! If you love your animal please dont take them here. This clinic cost me my best friend.
