Im not exaggerating when I say my cat actually enjoys the vet office now that we are taking him to the Montavilla Animal Clinic. Hes a pretty "prickly" cat--not so friendly with strangers and will even bite them, given the chance. But Little Bear is totally relaxed at this place (I dont even have to put him in a carrier, and they dont require it either). When the doctor comes into the office Little Bear is, naturally, skeptical. But Dr. Beherands really knows how to approach animals. Little Bear even takes his shots without getting upset!!! (First time in his 7 year life). We love this place! We have no complaints at all. Some people are annoyed by the strange hours and no appointments. But Im lucky to have a really flexible job and dont work on Fridays so Ive never had a problem. And when we do take him, I simply call ahead and check to see if they have a lot of people in the waiting area or not. Waiting has never been a problem. If we do wait, its less than 10 minutes and its a good chance for our kitty to get even more relaxed about the adventure. I personally love going on this "outing" with Little Bear. Since hes not a dog, I dont get to take him out and show him off. This is our once a year to get compliments on what a beautiful cat he is and it makes us proud owners. :)

I have taken my wonderful dog to Montavilla Animal Clinic since she was a puppy. I have never felt happy with the service and care that she has received. There was a complete lack of follow-up care and when I would call to follow up I was treated as if I was being neurotic. She recently went in for a procedure that required her to be there for over 8 hours and she was not allowed to go outside to go to the bathroom. She is a crate trained dog and will NOT go to the bathroom in her crate. She was a wreck when I was allowed to pick her up. i asked what their policy was on letting the dogs out and they said they do not take the dogs out of the crate to use the bathroom. In addition to this, the sensitivity to the diagnosis that was given (over the phone, could not even talk to me in person) was completely obsolete. They were cold and uncaring of the severe diagnosis. I will NEVER return to this clinic. My dog is my best friend, my protector, and my advocate and I try to be the same to her. I am frustrated that I trusted this clinic and they treated us both with disrespect.

My visit to Montavilla Animal Clinic was the first time in memory that a vet visit cost less than $100. It was also the first time since moving from Detroit, Michigan in 2006 that a vet tried something simple first, instead of just assuming the worst and giving me a huge bill. The solution was presented as a "first try" and I was told that it may or be not take care of the problem. That was weeks ago and the problem is gone -- no expensive medicines, no overnight stays, no x-rays or catheters, just good, old-fashioned instinct and experience! I could not be more pleased. As for the facility itself... Sure, its old -- its been around for over 50 years and probably hasnt been remodeled in over 20. So what? Id rather go to some place thats worn and broken in than pay for a fancy remodel. Ive been to lovely huge clinic downtown -- and it cost me $2000 and the place only ever even has one fully licensed vet on site. My cat never even saw a licensed vet there.

Dr. Behrends is the best. He truly has a way with animals, and he doesnt try to sell us anything we dont need. He helped us nurse our elderly dog back to health, and has been very good about answering each and every question we have had, no matter how little or borderline hypochondriac-esque. I have called his clinic multiple times with questions and hes gotten on the phone personally to answer them! I expected to talk to one of the staff, not the Dr. himself, but its been him every time, and without any mention of payment. Hes made us to feel as if he cares about our furry loved one as much as we do. Again, hes the best!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. Unprofessional....looks like the place had not been cleaned in at least a year....dirty floor, walls, exam room. Dr. was OK but couldnt determine the mass in our cats abdomen that the vet I saw the very next day felt and suggested an ultrasound that determined the cat had a mass in her stomach that most likely was cancer and passed away a week later. Denise lied in her notes...what a drama queen....pppsss nothing good to say at all...

I just hope Dr Behrends never retires as he is truly an exceptional veterinarian who clearly loves animals. I could write several pages about his care for my animals and still not be done singing his praises. An honest person who doesnt bother with unnecessary testing, up selling products or having the fanciest waiting room. He turns this around into low cost, health minded care for your beloved pet. A true gem.

Sometimes when you leave a business you just cant help feeling elated and youre glad you made the right decision for choosing the best person. That happened to me yesterday when I had to take my sick pup into the clinic. Dr. Brian really is a non-nonsense, affordable and straight to the point vet. Super compassionate and awesome with animals as well. Two Thumbs Up!

We adopted a dog from a shelter over the weekend and needed to get him up to date on his shots. Had never visited the Montavilla Animal Clinic before. They saw us on a walk-in basis, checked our dogs weight, heart and gave him the requisite vaccines and sent us on our way. No hassle, no wait, cost was very reasonable and they were definitely friendly.

Beat Vet in Portland. Ive taken my dogs there for years. 2 Doggie Dental extractions, 1 neutering and various other problems solved. All visits were easy for the dogs and, when I picked them up, they were fine and frisky. They all like going to the vet now, Excellent and compassionate care for your pets. Walk in hours but Ive never waited very long.

We have been going to Montevilla Animal Clinc and Dr. Behrends for over 20 years. Hes cared for our cats and dogs. I like that hes efficient and no-nonsense. He never tries to "sell" me on services, products or care that is superfluous to my pets needs. He is kind and caring.

Ive has a cat since I was 15 and now she is 15 years old. My uncle Brian has cared for the whole time on top of my other car and now currently my dog. He is amazing and caring. Treats the animals like family not like another hassle to deal with.
