A little disappointed in my visit here. I saw Mary Davis on Friday April 3rd and we discussed what options might be available for my dog just diagnosed with a melanoma in his mouth on his upper jaw near his eye and above his last tooth. The doctor told us there are some tests that would have to be done to find out if any options would even be possible. So I spent the over 900$ on these tests to find out what we may be able to do for him, basically to see if it has spread in his body yet. Well I get a message the following Tuesday that all the tests came back negative and the cancer hasnt metastasized yet and that if I have any questions to give them a call. First Im a little confused that they arent calling for me to setup another appointment since all his tests came back good so I stop by the clinic about an hour after I got the call and they send me into a room to talk with Kim Freeman. She informs me that because of the location of the cancer there isnt really much that can be done. The first doctor didnt tell us that and if we were told that in the first place I wouldnt have wasted the money on the tests. The first doctor didnt tell us that no matter the results of the tests that treatment really isnt an option. I really feel like they just wanted my money and were fairly certain that his test results werent going to be as good as they were and when they came back they would have simply been able to say nothing could be done at this point. Beware of being taking advantage of during a very emotional time. I gave them 2 stars because DR Woolridge did a 5000$ dollar surgery on my dogs back leg about 3 years ago and did a good job. So I just want to put a note out there that after I left the clinic with really no options for my Gus I made some RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) and have been giving him a rice size piece of oil for a 96lb dog every night since this post was made and his fist size tumor has now shrunk to the size of half my pinkie and now back to his old self before this whole thing started. This was a stage 4 melanoma!

I took my dog, Luna, to Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists for several weeks of chemotherapy in early 2015 to treat/manage her cancer. At the time, I was working with several other vets from different clinics because my dog was everything in the world to me, and I wanted her to have the best care possible. The staff at Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists-- specifically the front-desk staff and the techs-- were very compassionate and attentive. The vet we initially started working with was outstanding and answered numerous questions I had, but then took a medical/maternity leave and my dog and I were supposed to then work with another vet. The replacement vet never did seem to have a full understanding of what was going on, didnt provide much input as to the best course(s) of action, and things just generally felt disjointed. At a very difficult time for my dog and I-- and with important medical decisions needing to be made quickly-- I expected a greater level of involvement from this new vet. It seemed difficult to get return phone calls and emails. Overall, my experience with Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists was positive, and Id recommend them, however my experience wasnt ideal.

Our Weimeraner was diagnosed with probable cancer by our local vet and we contacted Vet Cancer & Surgery on their recommendation. Dr. Freeman saw Enya and after lab work and X-rays we got the bad news it was indeed cancer. Dr. Freeman went over our options including different chemo choices and gave us a good understanding of the approximate cost of each choice as well as how it might affect things down the road. Money wasnt a real driver for us which made our decision easy but it was still good to get a spread of options so we could best understand what made sense for our dog and us. Her chemo lasted 6 months and when we dropped her off (she was kept for a few hours each session), I always felt she was being cared for as if she was part of their family. We occasionally had to make changes in appointments because of travel, our own appointments, ..., and VC&SS always accommodated us. We dont know the final outcome of this (healthy now but statistics say well be back) but if a future pet unfortunately comes down with cancer, well certainly return here.

Making the decision on who best can serve your pet is stressful. I researched several surgeons and oncologists and visited two centers. I chose VCSS. The customer service, the expertise of the medical and clinical staff, the compassionate treatment provided my pet and me - I could not ask for more than was given. I have had to deal with past losses - second guessing my decisions - what I could have done differently. Regardless of what may come my way in this journey with VCSS - I will have no doubt that my pet was cared for by the best possible group of professionals.

Our 17 year old Schipperke had a toe amputated here when she developed a large growth on her foot. Other veterinarians refused to remove the mass due to her age and old dog health issues like a collapsing trachea and heart murmur. The surgeon at Veterinary Cancer and Surgery Specialists had no problem performing this surgery with confidence. Our girl came out just fine, recovered amazingly well from surgery, and is now walking on the foot (minus one toe) a month later with no problems. We really appreciate what they did for Shadow!

As one of our oldest and must trusted clients, we’ve had the pleasure of working with VCSS since the beginning. Their entire staff is a joy to work with and their love for pets is apparent during every interaction. As specialists they rank among some of the best in their respective fields, taking veterinary care to the next level.
