* Updated: The vet has now called to harass to have this review removed. Add that to the unprofessional category. Original review: We brought a very old rescue dog here, who had a series of horrid infections and what looked to be an enormous tumor on her paw. At first, they seemed really great given that they were very solicitous and ran every test on gods green earth to determine what was wrong with the dog. The "tumor" turned out to be yet another infection, so we scheduled surgery to have it removed. They did a skin graft on her having never tried it before (could this not have been referred to someone more experienced given that the dog is 12 years old and couldnt survive if the paw ended up having to be removed?). We were then supposed to bring her in once a week to get the bandage changed, keep it dry, and not let her move (because its really easy to convince a dog to not move around). Once a week seemed pretty infrequent, but theyre the vet, right? After the first visit to get it changed, we got reamed by the vet because the bandage they put on fell off, and we changed it ourselves rather than take her to Dove Lewis (when her appointment was the next day), they then scolded us for it being dirty (again, their bandage fell off, and we did what we could), THEN they sedated the ancient dog and took 3 hours to change the bandage. THEN they charged us about $200 for the bandage change. We decided to take her to Laurelwood Animal Hospital (which is AMAZING!) where they said that the paw was infected and needed to be seen at least twice a week, the experienced vet said he would never have done the skin graft without a surgeon present (not over the phone like Pearl did), he said there was no reason to sedate the geriatric dog, took 15 minutes to change the bandage and charged us $75 for all of that work. After about 4 weeks with Laurelwood, our old girl is nearly healed up and we want everyone to know that Pearl is overpriced, the vet we worked with and her staff are entirely unprofessional, and they lack the experience to work with complicated cases. Sure, if you only need vaccinations, theyre probably fine, but their cost reflects their location much more than there quality.

At the start of a week-long vacation in Portland, our dog Lo suddenly started falling down and could not keep herself balanced. It was an hour before Pearl Animal Hospital closed, so we did not expect that they could fit us in. However, not only did they give us an appointment, they stayed late with no complaint to help her. Everyone in the office was kind, gentle, and very very clearly genuinely interested in figuring out what was happening to Lo and how to help. Dr. Lord did a thorough exam, tests, and clearly explained the diagnoses and likely prognosis for Lo. Our entire visit including running blood and urine tests was WAY less expensive than I anticipated, and not only did Dr. Lord call us to discuss results, but the office called several times during the week to check on Lo. Thankfully, my dog is doing much better, and while we hope to avoid more emergency vet trips, we know where to go while in Portland!

We had a wonderful first visit at the Pearl Animal Hospital this past week. The staff was friendly and professional and it was obvious that they really love animals--our dog was treated like a superstar! The techs and Dr. Lord were so sweet and incredibly thorough. Rather than putting our 50lb brute up on the table, they got down on the floor with her. They handled all the issues and questions we had, provided options for treatment, and even identified some swelling (possible allergies) that we were not aware of. I was also really impressed with how up-front they were about charges--we were given a printout with projected charges for the visit before it was completed, and were able to select which solutions we’d like to opt for at the time. All in all, the cost was extremely reasonable for the care our dog was given. We know our pet is well-taken-care-of and would recommend Pearl Animal Hospital to anyone!

We had a wonderful experience when we brought our 2 cats in just to get a health certificate to fly. They had had their annual checkup & shots with their regular vet in MN in April, but Dr. Anders gave them a comprehensive exam with attention paid to their dental health and diet, grooming, and general health issues. I especially appreciate that there was no pressure to up-sale any product or service. Staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. Ive been a multiple pet owner for 25 years, and before that I worked for a few years in my fathers pet hospital in Denver. Well, okay, I was in high school then, but still, I do know a quality veterinary experience when I find it. Highly recommended.

We decided to take a trip across the river to the Pearl Animal Hospital, since weve been less than satisfied with the care wed been receiving. Our chihuahua, Lilly, had been suffering from an upset stomach that could get really bad at times. The previous vet had always given a cursory inspection and some medication that helped for a bit and then Lilly would just get worse again. Dr. Anders at Pearl gave a thorough inspection and ran diagnostics - it turned out the poor girl had parasites! After getting the correct medication and diagnosis, our girl is now back to her usual, rambunctious, and healthy self. Needless to say, weve found our new vet.

I would hightly recommend Pearl Animal Hospital to anyone in Portland looking for a great vet! I have only had positive experiences with Dr.Anders and her staff. Everyone there is so helpful, caring and professional. I want to thank Dr. Anders for helping put my mind at ease last Sunday. I had a problem with my dog while the office was closed. I decided to email Dr.Anders and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she responded to my email. She was thorough in answering all my questions and told me I could call her if I needed to speak to her directly. It is a such a comfort to know that you can call or email her even after hours.

It was apparent that Shilo (our 5 year old male mutt) was not feeling well but we were not sure what was wrong. When he first came from the shelter (years ago) he had kennel cough along with malnutrition, but these did not appear to be the same symptoms. We called Pearl Animal Hospital and they were able to schedule us immediately. At the clinic, Dr. Anders saw us right away and quickly diagnosed the problem. She prescribed kennel-cough medication, and sure enough, Shilos condition cleared up. Overall, it was a great experience with a professional and very welcoming staff and I would recommend Pearl Animal Hospital.

Phenomenal! My, otherwise, overly-cautious German Shepherd was incredibly at ease in Pearl Animal Hospitals hands. They were extremely sensitive to his skeptical nature and won him over, eliminating the need for a muzzle! (Every other vet office would automatically try to muzzle him without giving him a chance to prove himself). As a result, he received the most thorough exam of his 5 1/2 yr. life, including blood work and dental exam! Thank you Dr. Lisa Williams, Sarah and Cheryl!!!! You now have a patient for life! :-)

This was the first time my cat has been to any vet since he was neutered and I had my concerns as to how he would take the visit. Short story, it was excellent and my cat enjoyed it too. I met with Alison Lord and he asst. Shawnese. Both of them were able to handle and work with my cat without an issue, and my cat is not one to sit still for long. He had his shots and didnt even know it. So now I have a healthy cat and an awesome place with great staff to take said cat.
