Salem Hospital saved my Fathers life. They also treated me very well. This is personal, yet I really want to let people know how I feel...I am disabled with some serious mental/social/medical issues. I spent some time in the mental hospital there. To be honest, it felt more like a vacation with supportive friends. Both the staff and clients were awesome. The cooks truly cared about our food, it was delicious and homemade. Snacks were available always. The best thing was that the staff there listened to me and I felt they wanted to help me. They dont scare you with threats of being locked up, the doctors really are cool. Medication is available if you express fear or nervousness and request it. They even have smokeless cigarettes with nicotine in them so if you smoke cigarettes you have a safe option. The yard is pleasant and nature-like, with a basketball net and its fun to play. They also do many activities daily, from arts and crafts to music to support groups. When I left, I cried. Thank you Salem Hospital. I would also like to thank the emergency room staff profusely. I was recently there and they are the nicest, hardest working people. Even though busy, they accomadated my needs at what I feel was the best level possible. Thank you all Salem Hospital. -Mandy Sands

Went into the ER due to abdominal pain on June 10th around 11pm. It took them 5 hours before they could figure out was wrong with me. Appendecitous. Went into surgery about an hour later. Recovery was fantastic really great nurses, however one of the surgeon assistance tried to rush me out of the hospital the same day of surgery. Luckily for me the pharmacies were closed so I had to stay a 2nd night so I could manage the pain. Almost a week later post-op I start having some serious pain, possible infection in one of the incisions, so I call the TRACS office. Their booked until July. How does a surgeons office not save some openings for emergency surgeries? Anyways so I was told to make an appointment with my PCP and if the pain got worse to go to the ER. Well I went to the ER because it hurt so bad I couldnt sleep, and the ER did nothing for me. They poked around for 5 secs out of the hour I was there, said I looked fine, to call the TRACS office a make an appointment and to go home. So Frustrating.......... oh and I turned in FMLA paperwork a week ago and it still hasnt been signed.

Usually my visit isnt all bad but this last time concerned me deeply I went in with lower back pains, a severe headache and sharp pains in my stomach- My concern is with my being pregnant and they offered me two things that were to me nonpreggo friendly one being an anti nausea Ive had to which I was asked each time if I was pregnant before receiving and morphine for pain- Now mind you I was in pain, but due to my pregnancy I found that rather alarming. I feel also they lacked in one specific test that I later found out could have been rather vital if given the proper exam however I instead ended up with an mri- I feel after thinking about this for some weeks that in case of emergency I dont feel entirely comfortable with the outcome to the increasing wait time I have experienced here- And that is a huge concern for me personally. However they were nice, but my later tests I found the results were not only obvious but crucial information to have known.

Dont get me wrong the staff was nice... but we went in there at 11pm and ended up leaving at 3am without being seen by a doctor. There were two others who did the same and left to seek care elsewhere. They have you go and tell your statement over and over and to different people and you think things will move along but in the end its just inefficient and delay tactic. There were people in serious pain and they were being ignored for HOURS! I wont go back better off going to Zoomcare at least then you know how much your going to pay prior to having anything done. Bathrooms and Lobby were dirty and they need areas designated for people in the wheelchairs and for those who need to lay down.

I was brought in to Salem hospital two weeks ago on an overdose of Tramodol. I will be leaving to go to a nursing home. The care that was rendered me was nothing but the best. From the nurses to the CNAs Mike here was, well lets just say excellent. Each and every team member was patient was kind was considerate and I enjoyed There candor and the professionalism that they displayed. I havent been in many hospitals, but I would rate this five-stars. Thank you for giving me nothing but excellent memories as I leave this facility today. I know that all the people that come here will be getting that top-notch quality care.. God bless you all. Jim Peterson

Through a series of medical events, I recently found myself on the 5th floor of building B at the Salem Hospital for recovery after surgery. The outstanding care and concern that I received from the nurses is hard to describe with mere words. So a huge morning salute to all the nurses on the fifth floor, especially the ones that I had direct contact with. Tara and Lily (what a team) Rachel, Jules, Matt, Mila, Megan, Misty, Sara, Sheay, Kris, Mary, Jenna, Frieda, Savannah, and Doris in prep. I would like to say GOD bless you, but Im too late!! That happened way before I got there!! p.s pina colada anyone? Gratefully John Scharer

I have been a patient here and have seen others here. This Hospital needs a serious overhaul from the overworked staff to the facilities. The ER waiting room is a Joke you could lay there and be bleeding everywhere and nobody will even pay attention to you I was there with a friend who broke there leg and we waited for 5 hours on a Monday night. It would have been faster if we drove to Meridian Park 45mins away to be seen quicker. If I have my choice I will go else ware

Disappointed in the experience and the er process. Most hospitals get you out of the waiting room and onward to a room when you are sick. At Salem, you go back and forth from the same waiting room, tons of people waiting around in gowns and in wheelchairs for the next poke or prod are hanging in the waiting room. Every few minutes someone pops in and yells for the next person to go back. My sick wife found a three foot bench to nap on in the hours of waiting.

I have always liked Salem Hospital. Every department has an energetic, helpful staff. The ER is the exception. My daughters recent visit for a serious condition resulted in 5 hours in the waiting room, called to the back and still has not been seen by a doctor. This has always been the downfall of this place. Doctors, nurses, and staff, milling around the nurses station and patients waiting for hours. Poorest ER I have ever experienced. 1/2 star.

Very rude ppl in the lobby of the ER. Asking simple questions gets you rude responses. Sorry if youre overworked, suck it up and do your job. People are different which means different care. This is run like an assembly line and it sucks. When people are in pain they should make sure they are comfortable during theyre 3 to 5 hour wait. This isnt a joke to the patients who come in here needing your help and paying your salaries.
