Took my 20 month old son here because it had good reviews. We will NEVER go back. My husband is working on his PhD and I am a stay at home mom. We pay for independent health insurance but do not have dental. I made sure to ask the out of pocket expense when I made my appointment. I was told $55. We showed up 15 minutes early to our appointment, as asked. I already had all the paperwork filled out as I downloaded it from online and filled it out before I went. After being checked in we sat in the waiting room for 25 minutes!! The waiting room was huge and full... it was almost maxed out. There were kids running up and down, screaming and yelling. There was also a climbing structure which had stairs (3 each about 1.5 ft high) enclosed, bigger kids could easily maneuver them but younger kids could not. It seriously is an accident waiting to happen. When we did get called back we were seen by Dr. Scott. A nice guy, but not baby friendly. He made no attempt to make my son feel at ease with this stranger sticking his fingers in his mouth. So my son has brown spots on a couple of his front teeth, which is why I made the appointment. He said the spots were from an enamel defect. This was something that happened while the teeth were formed in the womb (most likely if I had a fever at any time) so there was nothing I did or could to about it. He said the teeth were more prone to cavities. He asked if he could give him a fluoride treatment (as this is supposed to help prevent cavities). The hygienist already had the tiny container opened and applied to the brush as he asked if I would allow the treatment. I kind of felt pressured to say yes, its seemed the only "right" thing to do for my son. At the same time I struggle with fluoride because it is a chemical and not something people (especially kids) should ingest. We already have too much fluoride in our diets from water to juices to toothpaste, etc. So anyways I said yes, he got the fluoride and we were done. At the check out they said I owed $75... I explained I was told it would only be $55 on the phone. BUT I was told fluoride was an extra $30.... RIDICULOUS. They should have told me it was that much extra. I was a new patient, a new mom, my son is 20 months, he doesnt need fluoride... the whole experience was very impersonal. The receptionist didnt know what she was doing and had to enter my information as I gave it to her (even though it was all on the papers I turned in 15 minutes before my appt). I would not recommend this dentistry for toddlers or kids.

I was a very "good" patient at Upper Merion Dental who never felt I had any serious dental problems. From 2009 until 2016, I made every six month checkup, annual x-rays and twice came in due to very slight discomfort. I was in the office on Friday, 1/6/17, because of gum pain. i was given a topical treatment and set home. I thought nothing of it. I was back on Thursday, 1/18/17 with acute pain in tooth #5. To my surprize I was told nothing could be done to save my tooth, which never even had a small cavity. I was very upset, and I am ashamed of how I acted, but no preventive treatment was ever recommended. I found out I have "cracked tooth syndrome" and needed $3,900 in dental work to correct one tooth! I should have been wearing a night guard and my bite needed adjusted. The main problem is really with MetLife. They dictate how much time the actual dentist spends with you and I assume not much profit can be made from preventive care. Think twice before using this practice. They are a reactive dental practice, not proactive. I may file a formal complaint with the BBB and MetLife.

My son went here for awhile he loved the playhouse in the waiting room but hated everything else he had a couple of appointments for cleanings and one appointment for filling cavities. at first everything seemed nice but the assistants had attitudes and they seemed to get a little rough with my son when they had to take him away from use to fill the cavities...they refused to let us walk him back to the room which was bullshit, they let the father next to us walk his daughter back! also the one tooth he got filled was a front tooth it was filled with a white filling that doesnt even match the color of his tooth!! it looks horrible. I also went to this dentist office for awhile and i never got a good vibe from them they rush you in and out like your not even important. Im allergic to advil so they lied to me and told me they didnt prescribe painkillers that dont have advil in it when i had root canal! To me this place seems like all they care about is the money.

While this dentist is fine for the most part with adults, I would think twice about taking children there. I used to take both of my kids there until they all of a sudden started finding tons of cavities in my sons mouth. (7 or 8 each time) He went from no cavities to having a whole bunch. Went through the first time and paid the $275 to numb his mouth that was required to be paid up front and had the "cavities" taken care of. The next time we came, it was another 5-6 cavities and wanted another $275 to take care of them. I read reviews on a site stating other parents having issues with kids cavities so I took him to a different childrens dentist prior to letting them work on my son again. Low and behold, the other dentist checked him out and he didnt have any cavities that needed to be taken care of. BUYER BEWARE! Easy money making scheme.

The kids waiting room is wonderfully decorated with tvs and arcade games and a playground to keep them entertained while waiting . The dentist was very patient and kind to my daughter telling her all the names of the instruments and what she was going to do when my daughter told her she was nervous. I appreciated that she took me aside to inform me she had cavities instead of saying it in front of my daughter. Wonderful place with wonderful people

I could not have asked for a better experience at Upper Merion Dental Associates. Every time I come in, I am taken in to my appointment almost immediately. The staff are very kind, and I feel at ease in the dental chair.
