I boarded my completely healthy dog at The Animal Clinic for 4 days April 2016. When I picked him up, he had a horrible hacking cough and wheezing. Since he had his shots/vaccinations in January 2016 (I provided copy during boarding visit) I concluded that this would pass in a few weeks. In a few days, his breathing became extremely labored, he continuously was coughing, hacking and wheezing, he stopped eating and drinking, had diarrhea and was clearly dehydrated. He was listless, couldnt stand up or walk and was falling over. After a trip to the Emergency clinic (because it appeared he would be dead if I waited another day) and a trip to my regular veterinarian, AND just under $400 spent, he is still not in the clear. I sent a note to the Animal Clinic telling them what had transpired since I retrieved him from boarding. Not a word from ANYONE at the clinic. I was referred to these folks by a friend, read all of their reviews online, so felt this was a safe place to leave my pet. NOT! I think these folks possibly do not keep the kennels cleaned (Ive heard rumors). I promptly cancelled an upcoming boarding appointment and would NEVER leave my pet with these people again. It’s great that others have commented and raved about their experience with The Animal Clinic. Unfortunately, I dont share that experience. UPDATE (4/13/2016) Ive since received a response from the clinic (had to contact by Facebook, they claim their website email may not be working) that ran the gamut of "maybe my dogs vaccinations werent effective" to suggesting that my personal vets diagnosis may not be correct, to instructing me on what could happen at boarding. Indeed the response I anticipated. FAIL.

Dr. Lea Fistein and her staff at The Animal Clinic are both professional and compassionate. She has cared for my pets since 2001. When my beloved cat, Smokey, was in the clinic, fighting kidney failure, Dr. Lea handed me a one-eyed kitten she and her staff had saved, and told me to take him home and give him some love. My Smokey didnt make it, but I had One Eyed Jack at home to ease the heartbreak. Two months later, I adopted a second kitten from the clinic, from a litter that the staff had saved. Almost a year ago, Dr. Lea sat in the floor with me, as I had to let my best friend, a 15 year old dog named Elvis, cross the Rainbow Bridge. She cried along with me, and laughed with me as we recalled all his naughty antics as a puppy. She made the most painful day of my life easier to handle, knowing that she and her staff loved Elvis as much as I did. For me, there is no other vet clinic in town. Ive had many pets in my life, and have used many vets, but The Animal Clinic on Broadway is by far the best, thanks to Dr. Lea and her staff.

I have always been extremely happy with the vets at the Animal Clinic and have been going there for over 5 years. My cat has a number of chronic health issues which complicated and unusual and Dr. Fistein has always gone above and beyond to research the issues and come up with treatment plans that other vets hadnt. I can honestly say he would have died several years ago if not for her compassion and knowledge. She has spent a lot of time, including her own personal time, to explain issues to me, discuss options, and even teach me the veterinary techniques for helping my cat at home. Thanks to her dedication we were able to come up with some simple treatments that allow him to live a happy and comfortable life. I would also add that she is realistic about tests and treatments and what makes sense for both the pet and the owner--that is extremely hard to find these days. Dr. Fistein is a rarity and I go out of my way to recommend her to all my friends.

The day I arrived they were definitely understaffed you could tell some of them were getting a bit frazzled. But I did like the veterinarian she was knowledgeable and friendly. I wish they would have taken a little more time to explain the medication options on my dogs I actually had to return the medication that they gave me for heartworm and fleas because had I given it to my youngest dog it could have killed her. Theyre probably a little better when theyre not so understaffed and not so rushed for time. But when prescribing Trifexis they need to be more careful. They seem to be fairly affordable the majority of the staff always have a smile on their face. The receptionist not so much. I can understand that they had had a very bad day and they had several emergencies. I will give them another try and maybe this time they will have the time to explain things a little better.

I took my newly adopted kitten to this clinic to get chipped and neutered because it was recommended by the Galveston Island Humane Society. The clinic was easy to find and the staff was nice and friendly. I felt like I was leaving my kitten in good hands. When I came to pick up my kitten at the end of the day, there were a lot of friendly faces, both from customers and their animals, as well as the staff. It took awhile for them to bring out my kitten, but after a 10 minute wait, I was out the door with my baby. The price was reasonable but I didnt really get any feedback on how the procedure went or any info on what to expect, like healing time or something to that effect. I suppose it was a small procedure and I didnt think to ask any questions at the time. Overall I was happy with this clinic and I will probably be using them again in the future.

I am a long time client at the Animal Clinic and have had routine visits over many years. We had quite a scare with our 13+year-old golden retriever recently. She was horribly ill and Dr. Fistein wasted no time in determining that surgery was necessary. It was an extremely serious issue and our Zoes life was in danger. Dr. Fistein and her professional staff were able to successfully complete the operation and took extremely good care of Zoe while she recovered. Her skill, expertise, compassion and caring go unmatched. Zoe is a very-much-loved member of our family as many of our pets are and we were very unsettled as this saga unraveled. The staff attended to Zoes every need and treated her senior-citizen-self with extra T.L.C. She recovered quickly and we are all so very grateful. Your pets couldnt be in better trusted hands!!

Its a small world. One of my therapists at Tideway Aqua Therapy is a very pleased client of the Animal Clinic at 7th & Broadway in Galveston. While shopping at the Bass store at Tangier Mall in Texas I spoke with a salesman who lives near the clinic and was considering going there. I must say that I have been a client of the clinic since I moved to Galveston in 1995 and continued after moving to the mainland. There is no better place to bring your pet than into the care of Doctors Deistler and Doctor Fistein, They have truly brought my many pets through a lot over the years. Living in many parts of this country for 51yrs. I can honestly say that I would trust them with any condition that your much loved pet could have. Their caring and support is awesome and rare. Sincerely and gratefully, Ann King
