My 25 year old first saw Dr. Alvarez when she was 8 years old. Shortly thereafter the rest of the family joined. In the past few years due to growth I believe, it is very rare that any of us even see the doctor. We are forced to see nurse practitioners or a physicians assistant. More often than not Tiffany. Frankly Id rather be sick and hit the ER than see this person. Most recently I decided to look into a long time problem I have had and see if I should seek treatment Adult ADD. I was told that I could only see Dr. Nelson. After talking with him and my wife along to help answer questions, he prescribed me a very low dosage of adderall. I have felt nothing. Because of my type of business my wife spoke with him and was told the dosage would be increased in 5mg intervals and that I needed to pick up a prescription each and every month. (Very tough on the family due to jobs in Houston and living out in Cypress.) So, I left work early on a Friday afternoon and stopped by the pick up the script. I was immediately asked for $20. I asked why and the rude front desk person stated that all presriptions for adderall and ritalin and "those drugs" they charged $20 to pick up the prescription. Well, I didnt have any money on me so I called my wife at her office and she was in a meetintg so she said shed call them when she was done. The girl at the desk told me I would have to come back. So, I called the wife again. This time she headed back to her office and got her credit card and I went to hand my cell phone to the woman and she rudely said "we dont talk on other peoples cell phones, she can call me". Well if youve ever called NWFP you know that it takes about 5 minutes of computer crap to even get a real person. I asked if I could have a pen and paper and I wrote the info down for the girl and she gave me my prescription. I guess I have to do this every month or change doctors. After my wifes meeting ended she called NWFP to inquire about the charge and had to leave a recorded message which she did on Dr. Nelsons "Nurses" line. She told them that it would have been nice if this process had been explained to us either when we were at my appointment or when I called to ask for a new prescription. Then we could have been prepared and not created a hassle for both us and them. She also asked if this was really an ethical practice to charge all their add patients 20 dollars for something the rest of their patients are not required to pay for each month. Shortly thereafter NWFP "Office Manager" called my wife and told her that she had gotten her message and told her that she could not discuss my treatment with her. It was against the law. Twenty years down the drain. Now we have to find a new doctor, because if my wife cannot discuss the payment of my bills with these people, we have a very very serious problem.

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Nelson for eight or more years. I have never had a problem with billing or service and both, Dr. Nelson and his staff have always been courteous, helpful, pleasant to deal with and professional. I have no clue as to why SearcyTx had problems. I have never been asked to pay for what was covered by insurance. Every doctor I know, asks for payment up front for non-covered service and I can only guess that billing made some sort of error if they thought your insurance wouldnt pay for something they did pay for. Intentional billing of services not rendered can cause a doctor to lose their license. I will admit that I have never seen Dr Alverez and cannot speak to that side of the practice, I cant say that I have never asked to see the doctor and been pushed off on a PA or nurse. I have been told the doctor couldnt see me when I wanted and they asked if I wanted to see his PA. As always, it was up to me.

Dr Nelson is warm and friendly and clearly cares about his patients. He listens carefully and prescribes the care needed. Medicine is second nature to him and he can explain things in a way that I understand. As my gatekeeper for specialists, he is very responsive. His secret weapon is Nurse Debbie. She is awesome. They are very friendly and responsive. I feel comfortable when I go there. So easy to get appointments. And its not all about money with them. I have specifically recommended them to family and friends. I could go on and on about how great they are. I have had a rough few years and they have been helping me through it

Dr. Nelson is one of the very best GPs that I have ever had. He consistently takes the time to listen to me after he asks about my problems and some symptoms. He has never failed to give me exactly the right diagnosis for any of my problems and always provides just the exact solution to make me well and feel better quickly. I have to travel more miles to his establishment than I could if I were to just locate another GP local to my home. But, past experience with other doctors shows me personally that I should trust those who have consistently provided me excellent service and support.

I have been a patient of Dr. Nelsons for over 20 years. He is knowledgeable and has a good bedside manner. He takes time to explain my diagnosis so I can understand what is happening to my body and how to treat the ailment. He remembers my health history and is able to effectively treat me. I like the office staff too at Northwest Family Practice - they are very friendly. I like the offices automated recordkeeping and how they can send prescriptions directly to the pharmacist - so my medicine is ready when I drive directly there from the doctors office.

I have to agree with Duane. I had been with NWFP since the 80s when they were much more personable and now cant remember the last time we saw a doctor. The desk got to the point they wanted the full bill payment up front. When they got their payment from the insurance they wouldnt issue a refund for the extensive over payment. In addition, they were charging for procedures they WERE NOT DOING. This has to be a way to get around the contracts signed with insurance companies. Im so disappointed in a practice that used to be a good place to go for help.

Dr. Nelson is a great doctor, he has really listens to your problems and works with you to help you understand how they must be treated. I grew up with the same doctor for over 20 years in the beaumont area and moved to Houston in 2003. After moving I had the task of finding another doctor I trusted and liked. I met several Condescending doctors that treat you like a Hypochondriac when you come to them with a problem, but doctor Nelson isnt that way. I have recomended sever friends and neighbors doctor Nelson and they have all left feeling the same way.
