My previous Google review of GCVS was effectively banished when the main hospitals business hours were changed to permanently closed. I understand that surgery services will be available at this location as well as "mobile" (i.e., at local veterinary practices), so I am reposting my review here. ----------------------------- We have used GCVS for 3 different dogs specialty needs over the past decade and a half and, until our most recent experience, have been pleased with the excellent care provided. (We would rate our prior experiences 5 stars and the most recent experience negative stars, if possible.) When Dog #3 was diagnosed with an ACL / CCL tear and surgery was recommended, we gladly paid the premium, trusting the so-called “world-renowned” specialists reported caseload and “minimally-invasive” technique meant that our dog would be in good hands... yet nothing about the "repair" felt quite right; and, unfortunately, our dog suffered significant pain, poorer function, and complications requiring another surgery, physical therapy, and ultimately euthanasia. Many troubling facts led us to file a complaint with the veterinary board; however, the veterinary board was recently declared as in shambles with enforcement (or lack thereof) being a key issue. Thus far, the veterinarian has continued to practice without consequence. In the meantime, similarly unfortunate scenarios have played out in other animals. As recently suggested by another reviewer, it may be worth seeking second opinions (and sometimes waiting things out, if appropriate) before proceeding with orthopedic surgery, particularly if the procedure is elective (thereby affording the gift of time). Since outcomes can be worse than what prompted your visit, make sure you ask questions, fully understand, and are comfortable with the risk-benefit ratio of the intervention being recommended. Notably, a CBLO surgery was the cruciate "repair" used in our dog, and its problematic outcomes appear not to be isolated to him.

Lets see... how do you rate a wonderful, compassionate staff that went the extra mile to help a patient in clear pain on a weekend close to closing time. You rate them 5 stars. My dog was sick for some time. I was referred to these caring folks by my regular vet, fearing there was something more to my dogs chronic pain. With an appointment set a week away, we ran into crisis on Saturday afternoon and the office staff went the extra mile to see my sweet boy. With all this, Dr. Vasquez was amazing (as were the rest of the staff I had to interact with). She talked very matter of fact, yet still expressed compassion. We paid for an MRI to be certain of his condition. Unfortunately, my dog had a far more severe issue. Weighing my options post testing, the right thing to do for my Dog was to put him to sleep. I still say Thanks to a great staff at GCVNN. While I hope I do not have to meet you all again, I will highly recommend your facility.

Our Golden Retriever, Woody, had a seizure in late January. The Vet ER recommended we take him to Gulf Coast Vet Neurology. The experience was positive and negative. Woody was diagnosed with a brain tumor and the prognosis was six months. The positive was our experience at Gulf Coast from our first visit in January to our last visit in early June. The staff was very professional, the doctors took an extraordinary amount of time to discuss the results of Woodys test, talk to us about a treatment plan, and what to expect as the tumor progressed. Every aspect of our experience with GCVN was positive, professional and compassionate.

Good facilities, bad experience. They put dog under stress by taking it away from the owner right the moment you walk into the room and dont let you go with to get weight and temperature. My dog was so stressed out but they would let help them. Then doctor exam Rd it without collecting history from the owner prior to exam or even seen the owner of the dog. Then she came to us and start telling us what she is going to do to correct the deformities but missing some details indicating that she didnt even do proper physical exam! Having dogs for the last 20 years I have never seen such an unprofessional attitude.

Gulf coast is a great place for treating furry type family members. Expertise is superb, and the caring and communication by staff is wonderful. For some parents, it can be stressful when the family member is led away for treatment or analysis. However, the bottom line is that being at Gulf Coast is one of the best places to be for really serious animal medical issues. Think of this: what would life be like if the problem were never treated at all? How stressful would that be?

After 5 consultations with their various departments, over $4k spent in expensive tests that they ordered, they still cannot tell me what is wrong with my golden retriever. They always tip-toe around a diagnosis and order more expensive tests that only benefit their wallet. NOT a good place to take your pets.
