I have a business online, and I know that people write reviews if they have a bad experience, and very few write one for good experiences. Before I go on… when was the last time YOU had a positive experience and took the time to write a review about it? My situation is, I think, fairly typical of the goings on at West Houston Dental. I have referred many friends, and they have all had similar experiences, but have not taken the time to write a review. I have been a patient of Dr Nguyen since about 1998. Maybe it was 1997, I can’t remember. He did a root canal and crown. At that time, he was just starting out in his profession. It was relatively painless, the crown lasted, and I was good to go. I went about my life for over 10 years without going back to a dentist. Don’t do that. Because when I came back in 2009, I had all sorts of issues. I remember the dental hygienist cleaning my teeth was quite concerned. She hid it very well, though. I had neglected my teeth so badly that I had countless cavities and 4 root canals/crowns. I refuse to floss. Who doesn’t? Dr Nguyen and his staff did an excellent job at not making me feel isolated and ashamed. Over the course of the next year, we scheduled several visits to address the issues. It’s been over 15 years since my first crown, and on my last checkup the other day, Dr Nguyen said “If your insurance can afford it, maybe you should replace that old crown this year”. It has been over 15 years, and if you do research on life expectancy on crowns, you will find that crowns, on average, have a shelf life of 10 years. And that’s best case scenario. I received 4 crowns since my first, and I’m sure that those will last way over the 10 year life expectancy, as he has adapted well to the changing technologies. So here is my Pro/Con List…. PROS He works on Saturdays. This is HUGE. My schedule is so hectic that sometimes Saturdays are the only option. Low turnover rate in his staff (his staff either genuinely remembers you or they do a good job of note taking to make client feel like they know you). They seem like they are there because they WANT to be. It doesn’t feel (to me, anyway), like a job. He is VERY up to date on current technology. XRays are displayed and he makes it so you can see the exact decay via pictures as well as the XRay He does NOT “upsell”. This is hugely important. I have never felt that any routine performed was unnecessary. I said I had 4 root canals. My teeth were in BAD shape. He could have done 8 root canals and I would not have batted an eye. Relaxed atmosphere. The entire crew are professionals. But, honestly, they have the aura of cruise ship employees. Their job is to make you feel relaxed and comfortable. And they do that extremely well. I have never thought “Oh my God, I don’t want to go to the dentist today” Prompt appointments—If you have a 1pm appointment and arrive at 12:55, you WILL be in the dentist seat by 1pm. My latest appointment, for a replacement filling, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Lack of Pain—If you are going to receive any type of cavity work, he’s gonna numb you up. Out of all of my procedures, there was only one time where the pain meds wore off. And that wasn’t really painful as much as it was uncomfortable. Astute Insurance Management – It takes only an insurance ID. My insurance company was a pain in my rear. And they were a pain in the business manager’s rear as well. Regardless, the business office took care of everything with no intervention from me. Value – I don’t really know what the going rate is for anything. But I DO know that I was expecting to pay several thousand dollars for work performed for me. It actually was a fraction of that, as the office was able to prioritize the importance of procedures to span them out over a year. CONS I have asked him many times for a Gold grill or fillings. He won’t do it. This is quite a disappointment to me and my potential fans.

I called in to set an appointment for a regular teeth cleaning, and provided them all of my insurance information so that they would verify it before setting an appointment with them. The young lady took my information, on a Thursday of one week, and she set my appointment for that upcoming Monday, she calls me 10 minutes before my appointment to tell me that they do not take my insurance after all??? 10 MINUTES before my appointment, I took the morning off for this specific appointment she was not sympathetic for making the mistake of not actually completely verifying my insurance information until the day of my appointment. She said "I will make /a note of it" when I asked her that she should verify the clients information and it wasnt professional to set appointments to then call the morning of to cancel the appointment she made. I would not recommend any one. She had more than enough time to have checked and verified my information before hand. Then to call me, when I was on my way to my appointment.

I am so very glad to have found Dr. Tomy; he is now our family dentist. After 20 years with the same dentist, I decided to make a concerted effort to find a quality dentist close to home. I was looking for a host of personal and business criteria, including; 1. Medically professional, competent & experienced 2. Personally ethical and accessible 3. Office conveniently located 4. Staff who are friendly and knowledgeable 5. Insurance friendly Over a period of two years I have tried several local dentists including both private and group practices. I found it easy to find a local dentist on my insurance list but when I went in I found them to be either a dental mill, or they simply failed to instill the same sense of confidence and experience. Dr. Tomy Nguyen fit the bill perfectly. Not only is he our family dentist but I now recommend him to my friends and neighbors. I hope you too can benefit from my research.

Been going to Dr. Tomy for years, since he first opened. His embrace of the latest dental technology and willingness to invest in the equipment keeps him on the cutting edge of his profession. I think about how the evolution of making crowns, I have several from him now, and how the technology to fit/create them has moved totally into the digital age. This has made it easier/faster and with less discomfort. An added benefit is that the crowns now fit perfectly, first time, without the need of final "adjustments". Finally, his staff has been great, yes there have been a few changes over the years, but he has built a great team. Highly recommended.

Great location for cleaning, but if you have a tooth ache the guy doesnt know why even after X rays. Once he told me I need my tooth worked on after reviewing the X-ray said I may need a rooth canel but couldnt tell me why he thought so "will just have to see once he gets in there".I declined of course. After thinking about it maybe its for my insurance company to help pay his bills or to keep the fish tank running. ANyways I will find a dentist who can be there when I have a tooth ache and also clean well. Thanks but no Thanks will not return after twice going there for tooth problems but get no true answers!! Now Im still stuck with pain
