I live 2 hours away & was in town visiting friends for the weekend; when my puppy had a major eye issue flair up. Not only was the staff beyond courteous but they went out of their way to help. I showed up on Saturday with no appointment & Dr. Johnson was full. Regardless of this, his staff spoke to him and he happily agreed to see me once he finished with his already scheduled patients. This means, Dr. Johnson, and other staff members voluntarily chose to stay late after, his office was closed in order to help me and my puppy! They were in NO WAY required to see me and could have easily sent me away or directed me to an animal hospital/ after hours emergency care vet! Once in Dr. Johnsons office, he was AMAZING! I had been going around & around with the vets in my area trying to diagnose/resolve this reoccurring & disturbing eye issue. Dr. Johnson who was already staying late, did not just do a quick one over on my puppy and send us out the door! He spent well over an hour REALLY looking at my son, explaining what he thought was happening to me, & running some tests! Sure enough the one visit with Dr. Johnson was more beneficial than the 7+ I had with other vets in my area! Finally, at the end of my spectacular visit with Dr. Johnson, I told him I would like to stay on as his patient & would happily drive the 2 hours to see him for the quality of care that he provided! Once again, he was more generous to me than he had to be. Instead he informed me, he would happily take me as a client but, a woman whom he mentored & trained under him for years opened up an office closer to my town; then he offered to go ahead & line everything up with her to setup my care there! And finally, 1 full exam, 2 tests later, 2 hours after closing, 3 staff members overtime, & 2 prescriptions later, I walked out of his office with a DIAGNOSIS for the FIRST time & paying less than the vets in my area charge per visit! I never write reviews but Dr. Johnson and his staffed overwhelmed me in such a good way with their level of service that I felt compelled to tell others about my experience!

My little dog had a serious back incident on Christmas day that caused paralysis in both right side legs. Neighborhood Pet (NP) wasn’t open so I had to go to another vet in Keller that was open. The Keller vet diagnosed my dog with IVDD and said immediate surgery was needed or he would become permanently paralyzed. I had already read up on IVDD so knew that crate rest and steroids was an alternative treatment plan. The vet prescribed anti-inflammatories stating that she didn’t prescribe steroids. Also, the vet refused to provide any treatment plan for IVDD (didn’t even mention crate rest for 8 weeks as is necessary). I called Neighborhood Pet and wanted specifically Dr. Johnson since I heard such great things about him. He was on vacation (Christmas Holiday) so I waited about a week since I wanted his personal opinion. Dr. Johnson conducted a very thorough examination and listened to all the facts surrounding the incident. He concluded that it was probably not IVDD but an embolism (FCE) which caused the paralysis. Keep in mind that my dog had been crate rested since the incident and only taken out for bathroom (which I had to hold him up for – after trying to unsuccessfully express him myself). Near the end of the exam, Dr. Johnson put my dog down on the floor and he started walking all around the room (at first very clumsily). I couldn’t believe he was walking and doing so pain free! Dr. Johnson recommended taking him off of all medication and crate rest for the rest of the week to see how he managed. My dog is now running around, going out by himself through the dog door and we are still working up to our long 2 mile walk we used to take. He is getting stronger every day. Dr. Johnson at Neighborhood Pet is the only vet I would trust. I still wonder if the surgery center would have completed surgery on my dog had I allowed it. My guess is they would have.

I had been driving past this beautiful facility for quite some time before I made the plunge to take my dog there. I had a different vet in the past and was totally uncomfortable with the staff. I expressed my feelings to them more than once. I always felt like they were gouging me. Then my precious dog suddenly got very sick so I had to take him there quickly. We ended up having to put him down. Spin forward about a year and a half. I got another dog. I set an appointment with Dr. Johnson. He took time with me, answered all my questions and was just such a nice man. And his staff. All I can say is WOW. They are so helpful and hands on. Tiffany and Toni are the two that Ive worked with so far. They are thoughtful, attentive and total professionals who happen to love animals. The reason I initially chose Neighborhood Pet is because of the friendly voice on the other end and their full service approach. They board, groom and care for your pet fully. Now Im a customer for life. Do not hesitate to take your pet to these folks. Top shelf.

Dr. Johnson is an amazing vet who has treated all of my dogs for years. He has a special way with animals and truly loves each and every one of them. His experience, knowledge and skills are invaluable to me and my pets. You will not find a better vet anywhere in the DFW Metroplex. He takes the time to explain things thoroughly in simple, easy to understand terms and allows you to weigh all of your options for the best treatment for your animals. He has cutting edge treatments available such as Cold Laser for pain relief and numerous other healing applications, he is very knowledgeable in reproduction and puppy development, is PENN Hip certified, familiar with the various aspects of OFA health testing and has an ultrasound available. Additionally, all of the staff at Neighborhood Pet Health Center are extremely friendly and make you and your pets feel like you are part of their family.

Doc Johnson is a wonderful vet and person. My lab “BubbaD” became ill last Friday. After not getting better through the day I took him to see Doc Johnson. After an exam, ultrasound and an X-ray Doc found an unusual tumor by his spleen, kidney and/or intestine. Doc sent me immediately to the Emergency Clinic where they hospitalized Duke fearing this mass would rupture. They did an ultrasound also to have the exact prognosis as Doc Johnson, can’t tell exactly what this is. Duke had surgery yesterday to find that this mass was actually a testicle left in a neutered dog. Duke was neutered by another vet done by the breeder years before. I trust Doc Johnson implicitly with my dogs as he loves animals as much as I do, plus he’s fantastic!

We are extremely happy with our Neighborhood Pet Health Center experience. The staff are always helpful and friendly. The vets and staff are very knowledgeable and always take the time to explain the details. I live overseas, and NPHC made it easy to get care for my dog who my parents are taking care of during my absence. Lisa and the rest of the staff have made everything go smoothly, easily overcoming the typical difficulty associated with trying to setup payments, get prescriptions or make appointments from across the globe. The communication from NPHC is the best of any vet I have been to. I highly recommend the Neighborhood Pet Health Center to anyone looking for a vet in the area.
